The chance to spend time away from home and in a new environment is a treat that many of us look forward to. Occasionally, however, we can forget to take everything back home with us once the holiday is over. HomeAway would love to hear about the strangest things that you have left behind or found from former guests in a holiday home.

Here is what HomeAway has to say: “HomeAway offers more than 2 million unique places to stay in over 190 countries around the world, from villas to cottages, from beach houses to tree houses, from mountain cabins to even castles! Over one-third of HomeAway's nearly 1.5 million online bookable listings are now instantly bookable, with no wait for confirmation. The holiday home expert’s mission is to provide families and groups of travellers with the perfect match holiday home to create unforgettable memories together. Not only do holiday homes provide excellent value for travelling families and group of friends, booking a whole house also guarantees more space and flexibility than a hotel or resorts.

Ever wondered how much your home could earn for you? HomeAway is here to help you learn what it takes to rent your home and invite travellers in for unforgettable experiences. Click here to find out more.”

Have you ever found unusual items in the fridge? Maybe you managed to leave just one shoe in the wardrobe? Or your underwear in a strange location? Perhaps you’ve even found something as random as a walking stick or a diary? Share them all on the thread below...no matter how strange!

Everyone who comments on the thread below will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

We stayed at a hotel in Lithuania for a friends wedding last year- the room was massive and had a sofa bed for my brother who found a bra (presumably from the previous occupier) under the pillows!

CuriousCatty · 02/05/2018 22:07

My DH and I found a purple pimp outfit under the bed of a room we rented in Manchester! 😂🕺🏻

wibblywobblyfish · 02/05/2018 22:54

We once found a roll of duct tape and a bottle of meths in the cupboard of a static caravan. Another time we found oxygen cylinders and masks. All the ingredients for a great party Grin

Headfullofdreams · 02/05/2018 23:14

Left behind toiletries bags, make up, clothes but nothing exciting at all!

MinnieMinchkin · 02/05/2018 23:29

Like a couple of PPs, confectionery; in our case, 14 full-size Easter eggs that we were due to take to all the kids on both sides of the family. I had been so pleased to find that huge cupboard in the kitchen of our tiny holiday cottage in Skipton, too...

Allthecake · 02/05/2018 23:48

I left a pair of (used) pants in a b&b once and was mortified when the owner came dashing out into the carpark with them in a carrier bag when we were leaving 😳

MrsFrTedCrilly · 03/05/2018 00:04

Left behind a single earring, which the fantastic owner posted back to me after finding it caught up in a bin.

Found tank memorabilia tea towels and a rug with embroidered chemical structures in a holiday home - tried to rehome the last as v lovingly done

GetTaeBed · 03/05/2018 05:27

I have form for leaving stuff. When the kids were little they often slept really badly when we were away from home, so much so, that I frequently swore that it just wasn't worth it leaving the house. I started taking travel blackout blinds and this made things much better - however I was terrible at remembering to take them home!

Sleepysausage · 03/05/2018 06:49

My husband is always leaving thing behind. Nothing particularly strange or embarrassing though. He's left a wallet, his phone, his laptop, and a charger. All have been kindly returned.

QOD · 03/05/2018 07:55

In Ibiza someone had hidden nude lady playing cards all around the apartment. Would have been moderately amusing if it weren’t my 6 yr old niece who found most of them
We still casually announce ‘whys that lady licking a lipstick ‘ (willy) which is funny now she’s 18

Left a teddy behind in France. Parents had paid thousands to rent the entire place. Tight ass owners charged me €16 to return grrr

lovemyflipflops · 03/05/2018 08:40

We stayed in the pretty village of La Zenia booked through HomeAway last year, there was a walk in cupboard where past guests have left things with a note from the owner of the house to feel free to take/swap and leave anything, the funniest thing which was there was a watering can in the shape of a vicar - the spout was his willie ! Hilarious x

TheGirlWhoLived · 03/05/2018 09:19

I had the horror of leaving dd2's beloved stuffed toy in a hotel once, luckily we weren't far away and drove back that evening - the manager said she had small children and wouldn't have thrown it away for the world!

We did find a bucket with five dead crabs in in a cupboard in a seaside caravan once.... that was - fishy

Walkacrossthesand · 03/05/2018 09:26

Found - a toy giraffe in a French gite ( only plastic but I think they're a 'thing' aren't they - they have a girls name?) which owner was frantic to retrieve for daughter, so we brought it home & posted it on...
Left - One memorable caravan holiday I (single parent, 3 pre/early teens) managed to leave behind some good boots in a wardrobe, and several non perishables in a cupboard, some in sentimental-value Tupperware. To this day I can't explain why I didn't check cupboards! The owner posted back the boots but I couldn't own up to being sentimental about Tupperware so I let it go

beachbodyunready · 03/05/2018 09:57

Left many phone chargers in various parts of the country 😩

ohdearwhatcanthematterbee · 03/05/2018 10:47

Found the most beautiful pair of fur lined walking boots in a ski chalet.... they must have cost a fortune. My friend was the chalet girl and when no one claimed them she brought them home at the end of the ski season and gave them to me!

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 03/05/2018 11:35

I work somewhere that is let out during the holidays (along the lines of university halls of residence).

A guest left behind an Anne Summers bag with an anal training kit in!!

asuwere · 03/05/2018 12:49

We came home with only the bodies of 2 Barbies once; I felt sorry for the poor person who went in after us to find 2 decapitated barbie heads in a drawer! :)

Paulamum2 · 03/05/2018 12:49

ColdCottage · 03/05/2018 13:02

I was staying at a hotel just outside Norwich for a wedding and it was a bit chilly so I went to get the extra blanket from the wardrobe and when I unfolded it there was a porn magazine hiding in there.

I informed reception and told them I'd left it in the wardrobe for them to deal with. There were several blushes

BaconCrispsGone · 03/05/2018 13:12

a urine sample bottle

sharond101 · 03/05/2018 13:52

Our toilet was full of what you don't want to see!

hdh747 · 03/05/2018 14:03

My MILs false teeth!

SusanWalker · 03/05/2018 14:39

I found a packet of fags and a lighter in the bathroom of our caravan last year. We haven't left anything behind but we lost DS backpack on the train on the way home with his special teddy in.

AngelwingsPetlamb · 03/05/2018 16:02

I found a really nice pair of designer sunnies that I decided to wear for the entire time I stayed at the cottage because they looked so much nicer than mine. I put them back at the end of the stay with a note though.
I left behind my sons entire holiday clothes in a case on one holiday and had to go to Asda to buy emergency stocks for him until we could be reunited with them !
