Doing the laundry is one of those chores that can seem never ending; every time you think you’ve completed the load, the cycle begins all over again. Cue the laundry routine. With that in mind, Fairy Non Bio want to know what the laundry routine is in your household.

Here’s what Fairy Non Bio have to say: “We know how laundry piles up, especially with little ones running around, spilling food and playing outside. At Fairy Non Bio, we design our products so that you can keep washing simple, easy and quick; making sure your clothes are beautifully clean and gentle on skin with our fabric conditioner designed to enhance their snuggly softness. We would love to know what you do to get your washing under control and give it that extra boost!”

Do you have a laundry bag/basket for each member of your family? Perhaps you do all the whites on one day and colours on another? Do you iron as and when or all at the same time? Or maybe you pride yourself on not having a set routine?

However you organise the laundry routine in your household, share it on the thread below and you will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck.

We have one big laundry bin under the stairs, which seems to be permanently overflowing no matter how much washing gets done.

5 loads a week seems to keep on top of it. Undies get their own separate hot wash.
Majority of clothes get part dried in the tumble drier (during winter), then hung on an airer in the spare room.

Clothes are put away creased, we iron as we need them. #slattern

beckyinman · 30/01/2018 18:54

System? The washing machine is just permanently on!

Tashap83 · 30/01/2018 19:20

I do at least one load a day, our baby sons clothes are washed separately to ours. I never iron - life’s to short for that

ArcheryAnnie · 30/01/2018 19:44

our baby sons clothes are washed separately to ours

...I've never heard of anyone doing this. Why, might I ask?

Harrison251110 · 30/01/2018 20:44

I have one laundry basket, on a Friday before leaving for work I separate it all. Then put a delayed dark wash on, Saturday is colours/brights and whites. Then Sunday is the dreaded ironing! X

buckley1983 · 30/01/2018 21:16

Oh my Goodness.. there are some complex routines here! I feel quite slovenly in comparison :)
I sort the whites from the colours - each load gets a colour catcher in a net bag (so it doesn't get sucked into the filter, THAT has happened before!!) - 40 for the general stuff & 60 for bedding.
Everything goes in inside out & is ironed inside out too.
In the winter - the towels & bedding go in the tumble dryer & the clothing goes on an airer in the conservatory - I don't trust the tumble dryer with clothes!
In the Summer (come on summer!!) - it all does outside to line dry.

FleurWeasley · 30/01/2018 21:32

Oh god my laundry routine is terrible. No routine at all, just gets done when one of us has run out of something!

NutCase82 · 30/01/2018 22:40

As the only person to do laundry I do everything in an order so I know everything is back in place before it's needed again.

Main basket is in the bedroom, floor on bathrooms means it needs washed (and should of been prepared by the user!), and washer gets kitchen cloths thrown in at random.

Only my OH's towels and clothes don't go through the dryer. But all other items get line or airer dried then tumbled on low heat for 10 mins for softness.

I put all items away except OH's who's items get folded and left on his side of the bed (because I 'don't put them away correctly').

OrdinaryGirl · 31/01/2018 06:10

4 year old and 22 month old twins here, so it's about 21 loads a week. 🙆🏼‍♀️
Split into 3 piles: whites and coloureds and wools / delicates. Fairy non- bio (yes really, I'm not just a suck-up) for everything except wools / delicates. Wash at 60, tumble dry. Repeat until insanity.

Esmeralda78 · 31/01/2018 06:47

The only thing that is routine is the fact that it builds up then I panic wash. I don't do it on a particularly day, just when I find the time.

I don't separate the colour as we go along, so I then fish out the particular wash e.g whites, darks, colours etc.....

Helsbells68 · 31/01/2018 16:43

I strip the beds and change the towels on a set day each week then do the laundry according to need or urgency.

Jael003 · 31/01/2018 19:10

I have no routine at all. The laundry gets done when the basket is overflowing or I've run out of socks lol. And I have to always remind my daughter to put her dirty clothes in the basket and not leave them on the floor in her bedroom or she'll run out of clothes. Everything gets bunged in together, other than towels which end up leaving fluff on everything, so I do those separately. I can only do 1 or 2 loads of washing a week as I don't have a tumble dryer, and so it depends on how long the stuff takes to dry.

MumsKnitter · 31/01/2018 19:41

I do a couple of loads most days as I have 5 children. I separate out colours and it amuses my DD no end that I'll do a reds/oranges/yellows wash or a blues/greens wash. I start with the darkest load and end with the whites to reduce colour transfer. If I'm not sure if something new is colourfast then I'll use a colour catcher. I wash everything at 40 degrees with non bio as we have sensitive skin and my whites are still white apart from my bras of course which are grey and very old.

sympatico1 · 31/01/2018 19:41

Three of us in the house - do a wash every day, separate into darks and lights, mostly on 40 degree wash, ( but will also do separate washes for delicates on 30 and towels on 60) using washing liquid. Everything goes on the line in decent weather (even in winter, got whole line of washing dry on Monday!). If weather not good, washing goes on clothes horse in spare room and when dry (next morning) put in dryer for 10 mins to "soften" it. I iron absolutely everything (well, apart from underwear and socks!) as soon as it is dry, as I love the feel and look of freshly ironed clothes. If it's a really sunny, windy day, I will wash duvets, pillows (all 12 of them!) at least 2/3 times a year. Afraid I am one of those sad people that takes great pride in washing and ironing and actually enjoys it - sorry 🤐🤐

MerryMarigold · 31/01/2018 19:52

I wash adults and kids clothes/bedding/towels separately. Kids in non bio as one has eczema. Has to be fairy POWDER only or it flares up. I then divide into whites, light colors, dark colors/ black sometimes a red/ pink/ orange wash if there is enough. I wash bath mats and cleaning cloths separately with dettol anti bac stuff. I have a lot of washing with 3 kids and a husband who cycles to work!

trashcanjunkie · 31/01/2018 21:08

My dh does our laundry. I’m dreadful and chuck stuff in drawers. About twice a year I tidy and sort my wardrobe Blush

sbruin1122 · 31/01/2018 21:47

twice a week. colours then whites.

rejcomp · 01/02/2018 06:39

My laundry method is usually "Oh bother, no clean stuff better do the washing!" :D

Hazandduck · 01/02/2018 09:32

I probably do a load every other day. It’s just me, DH and our baby so I don’t have masses to do but it does feel like it when I’m putting away!
I don’t iron as a rule, I hang it all up as soon as it’s out of the tumble dryer generally. If it’s been on the line it sometimes needs a press but I only do it if I’m going to wear the item. DH is more fussy (I think he has clothes that crease more easily for some reason) so irons his stuff if it needs it before he wears it. I used to spend HOURS ironing everything, even bloody pillow cases, nowadays I just think I have better stuff to be doing. If you fold it all up straight from the dryer it doesn’t tend to crease any ways.
I do change our bedding every Sunday though because our cat sleeps on the foot of the bed. DD is pretty much sick after every feed so I really don’t see the point in ironing any of her stuff! I do love the smell of her clothes. I always use double huge amount of softener, I just love strong smelling laundry. I know it’s weird but doing our laundry is one of my favourite household chores. I just love the smells and the freshness! Weirdo I know Grin

Lentilbaby · 01/02/2018 09:52

Three of us in this house.
DH takes care of his own washing (thank goodness!). Keeps 30-40 pairs of pants and same number of pairs of socks so only needs to wash them once a month....I know, I know 🤦🏻‍♀️ We are both in our 30s believe it or not!
DD is 4 months so needs a wash done everyday alternating between colours and whites/very lights. Although the frequency of 💩 explosions can change the plan with little notice......This can often be a full time job in itself!
As for me, I have lots of baby weight to lose so only have about 10 items of clothing that I wear....washing has never been so easy!
We use Fairy across the board for our washes.....nice and gentle for all of our skins and not over perfumed....that’s what I buy perfume for!

MrRichTea · 01/02/2018 15:08

Twice a week, with 4 of us, it's shove us much in! lol

melmoo · 01/02/2018 23:50

Everybody puts the dirty clothes in a pile by the washer, except DS who's clothes I collect from his room. DH or I set the washing off and move stuff to the dryer. He usually so takes stuff out of the dryer and picks out his own clothing. He then leaves the rest in a plie unsorted on the flimsy excuse that DD and I are the same size. I find plies of clean clothes to sort dumped in our bedroom.

Bellroyd · 02/02/2018 07:20

All family members take their own laundry to the basket next to the machine, having removed anything from pockets. Mum then takes responsibility for organising the wash and puts clean stuff on the bed for family members to put away. Simples!

NambiBambi · 02/02/2018 11:04

I know someone who had seven different sets of washing. That was before she had children! I wonder if she has managed to maintain that!
In our house the children share a washing basket and my husband and I have one in our room. Most people in my house (!) are dreadful at using them which means when I put a wash on I need to search the house for escaped clothing. They all take their socks off and leave them in random places so I have to be a sock detective.
Time, money and environmental concerns mean I now have three usual washing cycles: darks, whitish and colours. I obviously have to do woollens every now and then and I love the sports shoes and handed cycles on my washing machine! It's also brilliant having a delay start option so if I go out i can put it on to wash so it will finish just after I get back so I can get it out then rather than the washing sitting damp in the drum for hours.

AVT5 · 02/02/2018 13:48

4 kids under 7.. 1 wash every day.. bedding changed every weekend and done as extra washes.. never a build up of washing this way
