If summer is over then Halloween can't be far away. If you go all out at Halloween Lidl would love to hear what makes your Halloween party go with a bang, groan or rattle of a chain.

Do you have some seriously spooky snacks you serve up, some particularly petrifying party game or maybe your pumpkin carving skills are legendary (post pics - we WANT to see them!)? Are you a favourite stop for sweets or boo-tiful baking? Maybe you've come up with a genius way to dress the house for the scary season? Or do you have a tasty pumpkin recipe up your sleeve? Whatever your tips, tricks or recipes are we'd love to know.

Please post them on this thread and you will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will get £100 worth of Lidl vouchers (note the winner will be sent 4 x £25 vouchers, one voucher can be redeemed per transaction).

Thanks and good luck

apple bobbing and sugar donuts on strings are the oldest and best games

purplevamp · 22/09/2017 19:13

Even though my username suggests I love Halloween, this isn't really the case. I love bats, vampires, etc, but we don't do Halloween parties. My kids go to their friends houses or go trick or treating. I can only just bear to open the door and offer sweets. I always get my husband to do it for me.

defineme · 22/09/2017 19:13

Bloody marys make suitably bloody looking cocktails for adult halloween parties

Cailin7 · 22/09/2017 19:33

we do not have halloween in our house either.

LeeR1985 · 22/09/2017 19:55

Me and my daughter have our own little mini party. We pick some kid friendly halloween films, get some snacks and pizza and play a few silly games like bobbing for apples. Just the two of us and its great :)

Sid98 · 22/09/2017 20:09

I dont do halloween

spottypjs · 22/09/2017 20:31

I like loads of decorations up around the house, fab costumes and makeup as well as good old apple bobbing!

mave · 22/09/2017 20:52

We love decorating spooky biscuits! Apple bobbing is also fun!

Oblomov17 · 22/09/2017 21:00

Love Halloween games

HannahLI · 22/09/2017 21:34

We make peppermint creams (you know the kind you used to make as a kid) but we dye them orange and stick a piece of chocolate in the top and shape them into pumpkins. They look so cute!

Pixie2015 · 22/09/2017 21:37

Turning frankfurters 🌭 (hot dogs) into severed fingers and covering with ketchup blood in a soft squidgy bun all available at Lidl 😜

HalimaB · 22/09/2017 21:40

Apple bobbing and a load of sweets!

sweir1 · 22/09/2017 21:51

Apple bobbing is THE BEST!

buckley1983 · 22/09/2017 23:07

Halloween is a big hit with our LO - we had a party last year & hope to do the same this year!
Among the usual party fodder, we served up;

  • Spooky gingerbread ghosts (kids ended up just eating the icing, but I did try!)
  • Jelly brain (picked up a mould in Poundland - bargain!)
  • A bowl of punch with a floating disembodied hand inside (don't panic - this was created using a rubber glove, filled with water & frozen.)
  • Witches fingers (Nik-Naks!)
  • Zombie cupcakes (green food colouring in the sponge, lashings of butter icing - topped with raspberry sauce & an eyeball sweet!)
I'm picking up some new ideas from this thread already! x

The kids like to dress up and we have started doing pumpkins. We go to the school disco rather than going door to door as the kids are quite young, maybe when they are older

Apple bobbing is the game of choice here!

For food, we found lots of great ideas on Pinterest. Last year we cut bananas in half, stood them up vertically and used raisins for eyes to make little ghosts.

TheJunctionBaby · 23/09/2017 06:14

I purchased an inexpensive smoke machine and, along with spooky music, it was an absolute hit! Also, we play a game with lots of overlooked spaghetti in a big washing up bowl, tinted with red food colouring to look like guts. We throw in lots of fake spiders etc, then each person takes it in turns to put their hands in and retrieve as many as they can in a set amount of time.

WarmHugs · 23/09/2017 06:35

I use latex gloves a fair bit.

Fill them with water and freeze to make floating hands for our spooky punch.

Or fill them with chocolate and let set to make severed hand props for the buffet table.

And then fill them with sweets for the DC to take home as a party bag!

Spices001 · 23/09/2017 07:23

You can't beat apple bobbing, hilarious!

carolineandbaby · 23/09/2017 07:24

Last year I bought fizzy orange and iron bru and took the labels off and replaced with "zombie juice" and did the same with cherryade and replaced with "vampire blood". The kids loved the idea of this gruesome drink.

We also play the flour game it's great fun!

Instead of apple bobbing we bob for eye balls (lychees!)

xcxcsophiexcxc · 23/09/2017 07:45

We like cleaning the bim and then hiding in it , jumping out at any trick or treaters :)

AR2012 · 23/09/2017 08:14

A stew of lamb neck and pumpkin with spices akin to a curry but slow cooked.

AnimalAddict · 23/09/2017 08:15

You can't beat apple bobbing it's a classic! Lots and lots of sweets, great costumes and spooky food :)

janine0187 · 23/09/2017 08:25

Halloween is probably my favourite time of the year after Christmas.
I add new decoration to my collection everywhere and one of our tradition is to carve pumpkins with the kids.
Of course we dress up too and go for trick or treat.

Calphurnia · 23/09/2017 09:19

Bobbing for apples
Eat the Party Ring from a piece of dangling string. Or ring donuts if you're feeling flush

Make cupcakes and decorate with Halloween sweets
