We're working with TSB who have launched #TSBLocalPride as part of their support for Pride of Britain. They’re on a search to find the ‘pride of your community’. It could be your sports coach, best friend, child's teacher or a local business. Do you know someone in your community who made a real difference? Do you fancy giving someone recognition for their effort? If so, tell us about them and why they deserve to be mentioned on the thread below. NB you don't have to name them if you don't want to!

In addition, you can enter on Instagram by sharing a photo of your chosen person/people (with their permission) and an explanation of how they help others, using #TSBLocalPride and #mumsnet. For doing this, you will be entered into a second prize draw to win another £300. Your profile will need to be public for the entry to be counted, and do check with anyone in the photo that they're happy for it to be shared.

Here’s what TSB has to say “TSB are proud to be part of local communities where people help people and we all thrive together. That is what we at TSB call Local Pride, thank you for being part of it.”

Everyone who shares their story here will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Many thanks and good luck!

NB the people you nominate won't be entered into the Pride of Britain awards. This thread is just for showcasing stories about how members of your community have made a difference.

I would nominate the volunteers who have opened up and run a free book shop in the city centre. Previously the building was empty, and in this day and age where most high street stores are struggling, it's so good to see members of the community committed to giving something back and keeping the high street running.

In my area there are so many volunteers who make a real difference with the majority who benefit from their dedication not even realising. Many have volunteered for years but if forced to single out one it would be my neighbour who has volunteered for at least 20 years and is showing no signs of slowing down. She goes out in all weathers remains friendly even when very tired or rushed off her feet and always gives thought to the extra little touches to make people feel special. Her home is a real welcoming home too, wish i knew how she managed that too!

I'd nominate my mum. She's just an alround super mum and super human being.
She's a mum of three, my little brothers and still little (4 and 9). she was a carer to my nan who had huntingtons, unfortunately she lost her battle this august but my mum cared for her relentlessly, and it's not an easy illness to help somebody with as mentally and physically challenging.
She's also a full time nurse and has been for 15 years which she took up to study when we became a single parent family when I was a little girl, so I am ever thankful for her.
This year I became a mum and a single mum and she's been there to guide me as I went through my pregnancy alone and was even more birth partner!
My mum is a non stop giver who cares and cares , she deserves so much more recognition than she gets!

I would like to nominate my sons reception teacher Mrs hockham. He started school last year and was extremely anxious and had a very anxious mummy as well!
She made the transition to school so easy and gave all the children cuddles and reassurance in the mornings, she knew all their names very quickly. I know people may say it is her job to do so however she is so dedicated to the children and she deserves to be regonised as an amazing teacher!

The chair of our village association is amazing. When her husband got ill she started to fundraise for the charity that helped him and continued long after he died. Every school holidays she has her grandchildren to stay, driving a very long way to collect and return them. Despite being so busy she still took on the job of chair when we needed someone and even though she has recently been very ill herself she's still carrying on.

I would nominate the lady in my community who runs the local groups, including brownies, guides, toddler groups and groups for elderly people to find companionship. She is retired but works more hours than a full time job (for free!) and helps so many people. She is an inspiration.

BGcat14 · 17/09/2017 17:41

I'd nominate a lady called Becky who works in my local chippy, the shop is opposite a small flat where my nan used to live. Almost every day she'd make a point of popping in for a cup of tea with my nan, and if she didn't see her around she'd make a point of checking she was ok. She has no idea how much that social interaction meant to my nan, and the reassurance to us as a family someone closely was looking out for her. That's community spirit! What a kind young woman. I'm forever grateful.

I'd like to nominate the teacher who fundraises for children's education in Tibet, and takes teens from our community there each year to help in schools.

My Nan is by far the pride of her community. This 78 year old woman, last year was helping her elderly (90's) neighbour with dementia have times of comfort when her children and support staff could not.

She would visit her twice a day to make sure she had eaten and to make sure that she was safe. The neighbour lived on her own and had lost her husband the year before- this started a chain reaction of memory loss and disorientation. It was very sad and her children seemed out of depth but because my Nan had lost her husband twenty years before i think she felt like she could offer support for this lady- who most of the time thought that her husband was just at work. She helped her dress, washed her clothes and on many many occasions was woken by this women in the middle of the night and would dutifully take her back to her house and settle her down. These were things that she never needed to do but wanted to do because they had been neighbours for 30 years! I think it also helped that they had shared memories together and her lucidity clung to those memories.

Sadly the lady passed away at the beginning of the year and it was painfully heart breaking for my Nan. The loss of this neighbour has not deterred my Nan from her community spirit- she's still putting people's bins out who struggle to get them out and helping return them, she has another elderly neighbour come round to have their hair done together- the grown up daughter of this neighbour has a very full schedule caring for her own husband and children, plus working for the NHS so my Nan feels like this one job is something she doesn't have to worry about. She grows a lot of fruit and vegetables in her garden and happily distributes them amongst her neighbours- something that really isn't done anymore. She goes shopping for those that don't and always has time for everyone in her neighbourhood- including new neighbours to the area.

She is truly a remarkable, selfless woman and definitely my nomination for this.

My sister does so much - she produces and directs childrens' show to raise money for African orphans and puts hours into it - the children love taking part, the families love watching it and the African children all get the benefit.

The team at the Ardgowan Hospice cancer support were a real godsend during difficult times

wef1984 · 19/09/2017 09:52

I would like to nominate the man that goes around our town in the early hours of the morning picking up the litter. He really does deserve recognition for what he does to keep our town tidy.

RiaOverTheRainbow · 19/09/2017 18:01

I'm nominating the chairman of my local am dram society. Loads of members of the village get involved in the productions, from pensioners to primary schoolers. It's a huge asset to the village and she works very hard for it.

maclinks · 19/09/2017 18:58

I would like to nominate my child's school for supporting him through his illness and helping him through a difficult time with adjusting back at school after 12 month off

Jocelynne123 · 19/09/2017 21:26

I would like to nominate my friend Michelle. She volunteers for the northern newfoundland club and works very hard to remove dogs from bad situations, transport them around the country and find foster homes and forever families for them. Xx

tararabumdeay · 19/09/2017 23:55

TSB allowed my mother to put every penny I was due as a 16/18 year old student into her own account. Bank manger said it was ok to do so. I moved to London with a bag of books.

Not deterred about the TSB my OH and I opened an account with the only £10 we had.

The TSB were most welcoming of our tenner.
No sign of what that tenner would worth now.

jacqroberts68 · 20/09/2017 13:27

I'd love to nominate my friend Sam Coleman. She had an Hip Disarticulation amputation due to bone Cancer. Even though she had 3 small children she eventually volunteered to talk to others who were struggling to come to terms with a similar amputation. She is such a giving strong person who amazes me everyday with her immense strenghth for not only herself but for others facing such a life changing future.

Whyiron · 21/09/2017 06:09

I would like to nominate Luke Ambler who only a year ago set up Andy's man club, a group for men experiencing mental ill health after his brother in law died by suicide. He started the #itsoktotalk twitter campaign to bring awareness to the subject of male suicide figures...since then Andy's man club has spread from just my local area to several groups up and down the country supporting other communities too

XenakisCarter · 21/09/2017 06:14

I'd like to nominate a lady (who I actually don't know, but could find out her name) who is an active member of our neighbourhood development group. She plants flowers etc around the trees, has organised bollard painting, is involved with a drop-in cafe & walks the streets picking up litter. She makes a tangible difference to our community.

UpOnDown · 21/09/2017 14:26

Our local lollipop lady!

ErinSophia · 21/09/2017 14:32

I'd like to nominate my friend who runs marathons for charity and spends a lot of her free time volunteering at organisations for disadvantaged children.

CopperPan · 21/09/2017 19:11

I'd nominate our local shopkeeper, he has organised some community events which has been really lovely as well as fundraising for our disabled neighbour.

Allthecake · 21/09/2017 21:30

Not an individual person, but our lifeboat crew are our local heroes. Our RNLI station has been the busiest in Scotland for years and is the 11th busiest in the UK. They risk their lives for us and build their lives round the station's needs, it is a huge commitment for them and their families.

theresamustgo · 21/09/2017 22:07

The resident who does the garden at my mum's sheltered housing. Always in bloom, beautifully done and ceaseless. It really makes the residents happy.

PickAChew · 21/09/2017 23:01

Libby, our local lollipop lady. She always goes the extra mile when LOs aren't necessarily being an adult version of rational!
