We're working with TSB who have launched #TSBLocalPride as part of their support for Pride of Britain. They’re on a search to find the ‘pride of your community’. It could be your sports coach, best friend, child's teacher or a local business. Do you know someone in your community who made a real difference? Do you fancy giving someone recognition for their effort? If so, tell us about them and why they deserve to be mentioned on the thread below. NB you don't have to name them if you don't want to!

In addition, you can enter on Instagram by sharing a photo of your chosen person/people (with their permission) and an explanation of how they help others, using #TSBLocalPride and #mumsnet. For doing this, you will be entered into a second prize draw to win another £300. Your profile will need to be public for the entry to be counted, and do check with anyone in the photo that they're happy for it to be shared.

Here’s what TSB has to say “TSB are proud to be part of local communities where people help people and we all thrive together. That is what we at TSB call Local Pride, thank you for being part of it.”

Everyone who shares their story here will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Many thanks and good luck!

*TSB may want to feature some of the best stories on their site. If they are interested in yours they will contact Mumsnet who will PM you to see if you give your permission. No worries if you don't want your story featured.

NB the people you nominate won't be entered into the Pride of Britain awards. This thread is just for showcasing stories about how members of your community have made a difference.

So many people I could nominate, but the community here is really being brought together by the new minister at the church. Whilst I'm completely not religious, I absolutely stand behind his efforts to pull together the community be they Christian or not. He organises not only events for every member of the community, but does so in a way that really endears him to all. I believe it goes above and beyond.

HalimaB · 07/09/2017 01:05

I'd like to nominate my son's football coaches at Thames Corinthians FC in Berkshire they have given him and many other children such confidence and discipline through football in a safe nurturing environment. Plus the kids love going there and the coaches can't seem to do enough they go over and beyond making sure each child gets 1-1 attention, the dedication is amazing

TellMeItsNotTrue · 07/09/2017 10:24

I would nominate one of my neighbours, she is 86 but probably the most active person in the whole street! She is always out and about, she checks on 'elderly' some 15 years younger than her neighbours, if the paper boy is off sick she will walk to the newsagents and collect all the papers for the street and deliver them herself, she checks on me because I'm disabled and can't always get out, and she volunteers in a few groups! That's just what I know of, wouldn't surprise me if there was more! She doesn't see herself as doing anything special, but the whole of the street think she is amazing

If I won then I would use the vouchers to treat her Smile I usually take cakes over when we have been baking though we probably receive more baked goods from her than we give to her and send flowers on her birthday.

olbndansmummy · 07/09/2017 21:56

I'd like to nominate charnwood first responders. They'Re all volunteers who work alongside paramedics to try to ease the pressure on their services. Every penny goes to buying more equipment and not on fat cat salaries. They'Re a massive asset to their local area.

stephc007 · 07/09/2017 22:47

I'd like to nominate the small charity called ADD-vance who have helped countless families of children with autism and ADHD in our county. The ladies who run it have children of their own with these diagnoses, but are passionate about helping others.

GetKnitted · 07/09/2017 23:07

My friend is really selfless she helps out several charities with admin work, organises a collection for the local foodbank from her social circle and does this on top of running a very busy business. i don't know where she gets the energy for it all. Bravo to all the local heros.

kkhimji · 07/09/2017 23:55

The local post office who have donated a lot of money to charity

lollylou2876 · 08/09/2017 09:23

Rochdale Survivors Association is a small peer led community support group, for all victims/survivors of sexual offences - from child sexual exploitation right through to historic abuse survivors.

The group is run by local survivors for local survivors, and its ethos is survive, stive, thrive & inspire!

It allows survivors to come together from all ages and walks of life to support each other whilst waiting to receive help from the NHS etc

I would like to nonimate my sons old teacher. She really went out of her way with all children to support their reading and maths. After hour activities out of school, special packs she made in her own time she was just amazing and went above and beyond

Enigma222 · 09/09/2017 10:03

My sister and brother in law volunteer and help homeless people and work with charities to raise money for them.

Teddygirlonce · 09/09/2017 16:34

A fantastic family run cafe called 'Coffee in the Wood' - a real hub for the local community in a bustling part of SW London.

Stephgr8 · 10/09/2017 00:04

I'd like to nominate our local fitness trainer Clive who devotes so much time, completely unpaid, to training and mentoring disadvantaged children and teens

dilydaly · 10/09/2017 10:36

I'd like to nominate Grassroots Cardiff, who help the youngsters of Cardiff gain skills, self confidence and work through creativity. They also advise them on financial matters, housing and general well being. Many young people would be lost without this amazing place.

defineme · 11/09/2017 06:55

I would like to nominate my 79 year old father in law. He teaches children to swim several nights a week at our local swimming club, but he also takes my children swimming (having taught them all to swim) every week, which then turned into a night where lots of our friends and neighbours brought along their kids and he taught them to swim. Every holiday abroad he goes on he teaches someone, adults or children, to swim. He's a natural teacher with a real passion for what he does...all of this started after he retired from a successful career in the police force and CPS.

ClashCityRocker · 11/09/2017 22:23

I'd like to nominate our local paper 'boy'.

He's 79 years old and always stops for a chat. He loved the company th e round gives him.. Everyone knows him and he gets on with everyone. If you're feeling blue he always has a kind word and in the bad snows we had one year was out shovelling snow of drives and gritting.

He's a real lifeline to some of the older people who live round here and has even rang 999 when one elderly lady on his round wasn't there to greet him as usual - he checked through the window and saw she had fallen. Thankfully she was OK.

Quietvoiceplease · 12/09/2017 06:41

There are so many people giving time and energy to making my community a better place (which is brilliant, and a great antidote to the usual peddling of 'no one talks to their neighbours in London' nonsense).
My nomination however would be for my eldest daughter's guide leader, who runs a brilliant Guides pack, a great place for young woment meet and have fun, arranges great activities and trips, and is just a lovely, lovely woman. Voluntarily giving up every Friday evening (and more) to provide such a great opportunity for other people's children. Thank you!

manfalou · 12/09/2017 10:29

My friend who has a disabled son has made a massive difference. she's such an inspiration. She is on the PTA at school and is so active, raising money for them etc. I don't know how she does it being a full time carer too.

SuzCG · 12/09/2017 12:47

I'd nominate the lovely ladies who run a playgroup at a church nearby (See & Know in Soundwell) - I got introduced to it and by a friend, when I was feeling quite lonely as a new Mum. They welcomed us with open arms. So friendly and caring. When I had No2 there was always someone who would take the baby off me while I had a cup of tea & biscuit and then gave me the time to play with my eldest so he didn't feel he was missing out when baby came along. When each child leaves to go to school they put on a little party and give them all a little book with a personal message in it as a keepsake. They really did get me through those baby & toddler years and I shall always look back on them fondly.

RockingDuck · 12/09/2017 17:46

I'd nominate one of the mums at school who gives up her time to run the school playgroup when nobody else would/could
this entails an enormous amount of work, setting out hundreds of mats/toys/art stuff/ tables/ chairs, liasing with school, the caretaker...taking and counting money, serving coffees/teas. and doing the extras like raffles, parties, christmas stuff. she is always cheerful and helps anyone in need.
She also works tirelessly on the PTA, and is one of the only selfless people I know.

MumzieMel · 12/09/2017 19:53

Would like to nominate my friend Adrian, he works tirelessly with his local community, mentoring young people and helping the community through fundraising he doesn't get paid a penny, not all heros where Lycra and a cape! Grin

ProfAnnieT · 12/09/2017 20:55

I would like to nominate the Youth Council in our village who have set themselves up and make a really positive contribution to the community, working really hard to put on events and change opinions about "the youth of today".

andbabymakesthree · 12/09/2017 22:05

I'd like to nominate my son's old teacher. She helped me see my son's positives and by changing my perspective parent better.

JanieLovesLuckySocks · 13/09/2017 14:49

The Connswater Community increasing the many miles of new greenway in our area. We don't have to use the car as much and are spoilt for choice with play parks and walks and bike rides in east Belfast Smile

OnMyShoulders · 15/09/2017 09:57

I'd like to nominate Kirsty Baird, the MD of Sing in the City. Her choirs and charity fundraising have had a really positive effect on our local and wider community and being involved has been life changing for me personally.
