Are you one of the 56%* of parents who have never heard of water warts? Or are you able to spot the symptoms of water warts? Do you have experience of them in your own children?

In case you didn't know, water warts are a skin condition most common in childhood characterised by raised spots which can look like small pearls under the skin - this can last up to 18 months without treatment.

MolluTinc is a new treatment for water warts now available from pharmacies. It is the only product available in the UK to contain 10% potassium hydroxide and works by breaking down the water warts on the skin and allowing the body’s own immune system to tackle the virus that causes them. Applied twice daily for 2-10 days, it can help clear water warts within 1-5 weeks. It is suitable for those aged one year and upwards. For more information, visit mollutinc.co.uk/

Here’s what MolluTinc has to say: "whilst water warts only affects 5-11% of children aged 16 years and under, over 11% of children affected will experience a severe impact on quality-of-life as a result of the condition - we would love to know what you know about water warts, how you cope with them and your own tips on how to avoid them"

Please share your experiences with this condition. If you haven’t heard of water warts, we’d also love to hear from you about how you imagine them to be. All who share their tips for coping with water warts or their experiences of it on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 John Lewis voucher!

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw.

Personally I think molluscum is becoming very common I first heard of it 5yrs ago and within those 5yrs I've know 6 children who've had them. Whilst they are contagious and I personally believe easily spread if left alone they don't really cause any issues however they can be embarrassing and if children pick at them they can then be troublesome. I know of a little boy who had them who's parents burst them and they've left horrible scars all over his torso. I chose to go down the treatment route due to little miss having them on her face and constantly knocking the biggest one, picking / pulling at it Confused we are 2 months on from treatment and she has a very small red dot at the site of the molluscum no sign of it leaving a scar and fading nicely. There are things you can do to help minimise the spread as others have said not sharing face clothes and towels and keeping the areas with molluscum covered ( wasn't an option for us ) and if your child has it then read up on it as the parents of the child my little caught it of said it wasn't contagious.

I'd mention it to school because they had a dressing up box

zebedee01 · 21/08/2017 10:53

I have never heard of water warts!
Is it anything to do with swimming? Because that is the impression the picture gives you. I'm guessing from the comments above that it isn't! I have heard of molluscum though but have no experience of it.

thisone2 · 21/08/2017 12:07

Never heard of them, sound like blisters.

hann24 · 21/08/2017 13:54

I've never heard of them either, but it's great to know that they're something treatable

Lydia30 · 21/08/2017 15:16

I've never heard of them. I would have imaged water warts to be along the lines of verrucas though if I hadn't read this.

nonnyno · 21/08/2017 16:20

Never heard of these. My children never had them. So i googled water warts. Turns out they are a contagious virus common in children, causing little white spots. Another article described how to get rid of them - they looked just like common or garden warts - more confuded than ever now.

strawberrisc · 21/08/2017 16:37

I've never heard of water warts but I imagine them to be like the verrucas that plagued my daughter when she was mad on going swimming.

mumpetuk1 · 21/08/2017 18:00

So contagious, my friends son had it and it lookd awful.

JoGodfray · 21/08/2017 20:03

Never heard of this before and there was me thinking I had been accustomed with a lot of manky childhood medical problems!!!

grannybiker · 21/08/2017 20:10

Never heard of water warts, but have experienced molluscum with my youngest. We took the wait it out approach as they weren't causing any problems and the alternative was freezing them off. No thanks.

baconbap · 21/08/2017 21:45

I've never heard of them. I would have assumed it was something you caught in the swimming pool.

ElizaW922 · 21/08/2017 22:46

Never heard of them even though my two swim like fishes - interesting to learn though!

Whyiron · 21/08/2017 22:49

I also have never heard of it referred to as water warts. All 3 of my sons had them a few years ago, the eldest one picked at his and they cleared up soon after, the younger two seemed to have them for ages

DesignedForLife · 21/08/2017 23:22

Where did the name water warts come from? Sounds so grim compared to MC.

JayJay1874 · 21/08/2017 23:30

Have heard of them but haven't experienced them first hand. Think the naming is great.

Dan35 · 22/08/2017 00:07

I've never heard of water warts but imagine they look like normal warts but paler?

cathryn1 · 22/08/2017 07:05

I have never actually heard of these, but what a great informative piece I would 100% buy this, anything that would help my princess out.

Emmamaryd · 22/08/2017 07:19

Never heard of them. They sound like verrucas

vincenta · 22/08/2017 07:42

Never heard of them and hopefully will never see.

Flickabella36 · 22/08/2017 08:03

My son had Molluscum contagiosum really badly as a toddler. They used to wrap pus and get infected. He has scars from them now. The GP said there was nothing we could do and it took over a year to go. He ha don't them all over but around his neck and arms were the worst! This sounds an interesting as it was horrible not being able to help him z🙁

aggga8 · 22/08/2017 08:08

I never heard about them

castleton · 22/08/2017 08:13

Never heard of them before or come across them, but interesting to read about them

cathyov · 22/08/2017 08:30

Lots of viral rashes over the years but these water warts (yes I googled) look very distinctive and not something I have come across (or in school either). Would be quite happy not to see them either but at least I am now aware of what they are!

lorrainej162 · 22/08/2017 08:47

I've never heard them called water warts before, I didn't think they needed treatment and they just went away in time.
