It’s never too early to start thinking about the kids starting or heading back to school. There’s so much to buy that it’s hard to remember everything or even know how much of each thing you need - are 5 shirts enough/too much? Where should I shop? What should I buy? Are all common questions our MNers have.

Here’s what George at ASDA has to say: “Our schoolwear and footwear are such brilliant quality, we’re proud to offer a no-quibble 100 day satisfaction guarantee. This means that if you’re not happy with an item you’ve brought with 100 days, we’ll give you a full refund. So you can shop with complete confidence.”

George at ASDA would like you to go to their website here and pick out your favourite back to school items, whether that’s uniform, shoes, lunchboxes, or stationary and come back and share them (ideally with a link to make it easy on anyone who wants to check them out). It would be great if you could also share your back to school tips and tricks with your fellow MNers, especially those who may have DC going to school for the first time this year!

So how many shirts do you buy? Don’t forget about the PE kit! What are the most comfy school shoes for your DC? Have you found an amazing lunchbox with lots of handy compartments? Do you label EVERYTHING? How do you get your kids in the mindset for going back to school? Whatever your favourite back to school items and tricks, please share them on the thread below and you will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 George at ASDA voucher.

Thanks and good luck

All I need for ds are some navy cargo shorts. I would love to link to them but I can't as you don't sell them in navy Angry black and grey only. Fwiw m&s don't do them either, or Tesco or Matalan, what is the crack with that!?

I went in to George recently to buy the navy v neck jumpers & yellow polo shirts I've bought for the last umpteen years...no dice, they seem to be online only now Hmm to say I'm hacked off is an understatement.

Definitely the polo shirts, they are so low in cost you can always get some more after the children somehow destroy them! :)

My favourites are the pinafore dresses. They wash and tumble dry perfectly, and all you have to do is hang them up ready for the next day!

Will be buying again this summer :)

direct.asda.com/george/girls-school-polo-shirts/girls-school-ruffle-front-polo-white/GEM3345,default,pd.html we love these as they're much softer than normal polo shirts. My tip is to buy enough uniform to get to through the first week or two then buy whatever must have all their friendsare wearing

Not sure how to do links, sorry. But I love the boys trainers. I intend to get away without brands as long as possible and these trainers are just right. They look smart and cool..... and a great price!

I love Asda for buying school uniform, it's a great price and good quality.

As far as getting them ready to go back to school I think it's best to just be calm and relaxed about everything, if you're stressed to bits about the whole thing it will rub off on them and make them nervous.

I home educate my lot, but...I do like them still being in smarter clothes, as I think it gets them in the mindset to learn, rather than when we're sat about doing maths in our PJ'S, which does happen too!
However, I still buy their P.E. clothes and swim stuff, and usually its from Asda. I blooming LOVE their clothing, always good quality, in fact I would go so far as to say its actually nicer than some things I have bought from more expensive clothing stores!
Anyways, when my children were in mainstream school, I would have bought them three pairs of trousers, 4 polo shirts, two jumpers, new socks, pair of shoes, P.E. bag, 2 pairs of shorts, (one pair for home for when inevitably the other pair goes walkies!) two p.e. tee-shirts, and LABELS! SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO many labels!!!! I think when all my little ones first started, the worst thing about school for me was how many times their jumpers would be lost, then never recovered, or their P.E. kit would disappear, and these things x4 do not come cheap, and while it doesn't solve the issue, it makes things a darn sigh easier each term to that trip to lost property if everything is properly labelled up! x

my girls are both going to want this as their new swimming bag! :-)

I love asda's pinafore dresses as they look so smart.
Ask charities for help to buy school uniforms as they can be expensive.

I like the cable knit cardigans - we always buy them because they're easily identifiable as ours in our school and they always last a whole year. Very smart too.

I usually get the 5 sets of trousers and polos and sweatshirts in July, iron on the name tapes, it is just one less thing to worry about. I always pick Asda for the dark grey adjustable waist trousers for my long legged boy. They wash beautifully and stand the test of the playground. The velcrow black shoes are also hard to beat on quality and durability from Asda. Keep up the good work.

Asda clothes for back to school are great value and they last really well. I like the multi packs of polos and socks I always buy asda socks! Definitely label everything, because all school uniform looks similar and if your kid is forgetful a lot will get lost if it isn't labelled.

After the panics we've had of not enough clean trousers etc, I'm just going to buy five of everything this year! It's inexpensive enough to be worthwhile for us. As long as none of it goes missing...
