It’s never too early to start thinking about the kids starting or heading back to school. There’s so much to buy that it’s hard to remember everything or even know how much of each thing you need - are 5 shirts enough/too much? Where should I shop? What should I buy? Are all common questions our MNers have.

Here’s what George at ASDA has to say: “Our schoolwear and footwear are such brilliant quality, we’re proud to offer a no-quibble 100 day satisfaction guarantee. This means that if you’re not happy with an item you’ve brought with 100 days, we’ll give you a full refund. So you can shop with complete confidence.”

George at ASDA would like you to go to their website here and pick out your favourite back to school items, whether that’s uniform, shoes, lunchboxes, or stationary and come back and share them (ideally with a link to make it easy on anyone who wants to check them out). It would be great if you could also share your back to school tips and tricks with your fellow MNers, especially those who may have DC going to school for the first time this year!

So how many shirts do you buy? Don’t forget about the PE kit! What are the most comfy school shoes for your DC? Have you found an amazing lunchbox with lots of handy compartments? Do you label EVERYTHING? How do you get your kids in the mindset for going back to school? Whatever your favourite back to school items and tricks, please share them on the thread below and you will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 George at ASDA voucher.

Thanks and good luck

I love the packs of 5 shirts - very good value.

My tip would be, buy a sharpie! and mark everything, things get lost too easy

We love the Girls School Bow Detail Skater Pinafores, we had these for dd last year and they are good quality, am also a fan of the school cardigans, they wash really well (no bobbling). dd has picked out her own lunch bag for this term, she's gone with Panda Lunch Bag. Also love the range of shoes, the Girls School Patent Shoes in particular

My tip is buy uniform early and label everything. I always buy good quality labels so if misplaced is always returned. The week before school i start getting my child back into a more normal routine.

Emmamaryd · 04/08/2017 22:17

The coats are really good value. Seems to warm to be thinking of such things but autumn won't be far off. Have bought each of the kids a warm coat at ASDA already.

I have always loved the m&s schools clothes and the Clark's school shoes. They cost a bit more but they are such good quality and last longer. We always make a big deal out of going out and my daughter picking a new bag, pencil case, stationary, lunch box etc. She loves picking them and it helps her feel positive about going back to school xx

My son would love this for carrying all his daily essentials - direct.asda.com/george/kids/accessories/marvel-avengers-rucksack/GEM563091,default,pd.html

I don't have any tips as this will be our first experience of 'back to school'!
We are trying to keep a routine of getting up and ready on a morning so it's not a shock to the system in September though!

hutchina1986 · 04/08/2017 23:47

I get 4 polo shirts and 3 pinafores and usually do a uniform wash mid week then the weekend. My daughter is about to go in to year 3 but shes already in age 11-12 and she hates shirts and trousers so not really sure what I'm going to do soon as I never see pinafores in older sizes because once they hit secondary school they don't need them.

I am a first time mom whose little girl is off to school, I have 5 shirts, two skirts and two trousers, school shoes. Hoping I have enough, great ideas on here from people thank you - the water bottle looks good think I will get one of those

Leanfun · 05/08/2017 08:04

The cotton tights are so good.

Tights need to be able to breath and be very flexible and we have found these to be just right.

TroubleInSnowland · 05/08/2017 08:09

I like the Asda slim fit trousers...they're great for tall skinny boys and come in charcoal - the only store I can find that does this!

My biggest tip was shared with me by a teacher. Buy sew-in name labels and label everything. I have to admit, with 2 children with approx 12 years of school between then, we have not lost a single item of clothing. This is miraculous because did can lose stuff just walking down the stairs at home.

lucyrobinson · 05/08/2017 08:18

I am loving all the uniform. I have two kiddies and find the uniform fits really well. But the most important thing is washing it. Find they all wash really well.

dannydyerismydad · 05/08/2017 09:13

Love George uniform. The half elasticated boys trousers are indestructible. My boy destroys trousers by walking on his knees. Somehow we've managed to get 2 years out of his George trousers.

We have 5 of everything so I'm never stressing over washing, but 6 polo shirts. I hold one back for school photos and assemblies only so he has an immaculate one.

samanthab870 · 05/08/2017 09:51

My little boy picked up this bag yesterday direct.asda.com/george/kids/accessories/chase-paw-patrol-hooded-bag/GEM571965,default,pd.html

My biggest tip is to make learning fun 😁 Who doesn't like to have fun

greensmith68 · 05/08/2017 10:37

i love these one for every day of the week easy to dry even when wet out just wash and hang on a coat hanger easy to iron too they also keep there shape unlike polo shirts

Hayleypayton19 · 05/08/2017 10:49

my favourite is the stay white polo shirts been buying or 12 years!!

Longdistance · 05/08/2017 11:26

Just showed my dd, and she's loving the bow pinafore dress. She likes dresses and even in winter refuses to wear trousers to school.

JayJay1874 · 05/08/2017 13:22

love the slim fit george trousers. they look really smart and are great value.

emmyshay · 05/08/2017 16:22

Our school has logos on t-shirts and jumpers but I just buy one of those and then use plain ones. My boys trash them so easily, that I don't want to keep forking out lots of money for replacements!

sarahw2 · 05/08/2017 20:05

My son loves these trousers. He will only wear a slim leg (fashion and all that Hmm), and they're fab quality. Still look really good after a whole school year's wear.
