Fairy Non Bio is sponsoring the Mumsnet Talk app, so we’d like you to talk about your top laundry tips for families.

Do you have tips for removing the plethora of stains your DC somehow produce? Maybe you’re skilled in mixing wash loads with zero colour transfer? Or perhaps you’ve got a cast-iron system for laundry that keeps the job from overwhelming you (and your machine).

Whatever they are, share your laundry tips for families below. Everyone who posts on the thread will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

If you're an avid Mumsnet talk boards user, you should download the app for yourself. It's free, and allows you to be part of the conversation wherever you are!

Thanks and good luck!

wash every day so that laundry doesn't build up and stains don't dry out and set

mummymummums · 04/07/2017 22:04

Marks on shirt collars are usually grease based, and I've found that washing up liquid rubbed in before a wash removes the nasty yellowy stains.

georgedawes · 04/07/2017 22:13

Don't use fabric conditioner, complete waste of time and money!

towser44 · 04/07/2017 22:15

Chuck it all in irrespective of colour or material and make sure a load goes round on all dry days so it can go on the line rather than in the dryer!

moosexxx · 04/07/2017 22:16

Split the whites and the colours.
Respect the tubmle drying instructions!

happylaura · 04/07/2017 22:21

I divide all my washing as I put it into the laundry so as soon as the dark or light pile is overflowing I can just chuck a load in without having to sort

fld14 · 04/07/2017 22:40

I use washing up liquid on spills as soon as possible. Just massage it in and then when its washed it acts as an extra stain remover in the area that needs it most.

MimiJoy · 04/07/2017 22:40

Chuck the fabric softener and use white vinegar in the final rinse insteaed. It deodorises, softens and is much cheaper!

Roraima · 04/07/2017 22:42

This tips I do every now and then: for whites a little bleach, it makes them really white but careful not to overdo it as the result will be a yellowy horror.
For colors, instead it would be vinegar. Same idea every now and then. It returns the shine lost with the wear and tear.

hdh747 · 04/07/2017 22:44

I add white vinegar to freshen and soften clothes naturally.

beckyinman · 04/07/2017 22:46

Chuck everything but whites in together - most things will be clean after this. Rubbing a stubborn stain with fairy liquid before a wash genuinely shifts most things

glenka · 04/07/2017 22:51

Always try and tackle stains on clothes as soon as you can so then you stand more of a chance of getting it out before it sets.

MrsDramaQueen · 04/07/2017 22:51

I have a son who likes to go in anything and everything that causes stains. He forever has grass stains on his knees. I have found the most effective product at removing them is vanish. I put it in with my normal washing liquid when some of the clothes have bad stains. You can also pre-treat the clothes if they are really bad. Works every time.

rutsan · 04/07/2017 22:55

My top tip is to tell everyone in your house to do their own washing!

WellTidy · 04/07/2017 23:00

This laundry routine changed my life. No exaggeration. It did.

I bought a triple laundry bag on a frame. You can take each bag off. It lives in our bedroom. There is one bag for whites, another for light colours and the other is for darks. Reds and delicates go in the wicker basket which is next to the sorter. Only when a bag is full is it washed. This is key. I used to do ever such a lot ofhalf washes, it used to get in my nerves washing, drying everyday. The towels are washed straight from the bathroom every five or so says, the sheets are stripped from the beds straight into the machine fortnightly.

Less time spent, less energy consumed, cheaper all round.

darkwarrior · 04/07/2017 23:06

I like to add salt to my washing, I've heard it is supposed to keep colours from fading and it seems to work!

prwilson · 04/07/2017 23:17

I try and do little and often, and try not to let it build up as it becomes overwhelming.

Ferryfairy · 04/07/2017 23:23

When your machine dies, send him indoors to choose a new one. It will be SO difficult for you to work out to operate it, he will have to keep showing you, and you can just cuddle kittens.

voyager50 · 04/07/2017 23:28

If you have more than one child and have lots of washing try to wash each child's clothes seperately - it saves a lot of time sorting them out after they're washed.

Buy clothes that don't need ironing whenever possible!

liz1970 · 04/07/2017 23:37

separate darks and whites :)

user1471449805 · 04/07/2017 23:44

No, it won't have been washed if you didn't put it in the laundry basket.

No, overloading the machine is not 'helping'.

Line dry as much as possible - and absolutely no washing outside overnight

glennamy · 04/07/2017 23:51

Dont' overload - put too much washing in the machine... Leave the door open after using the machine to air/dry it out :)

WhosTakingDeHorseToFrance · 05/07/2017 00:03

My only rule is hang it out
Sunshine solves everything, stains mustiness (some of us forget the odd washed load in the machine and leave it to fester overnight for days )
Given that confession I'll scarper nowGrin

MSHGW · 05/07/2017 00:13

Always always always check pockets!

andywedge · 05/07/2017 00:19

Never put black socks or blue jeans in with whites. NEVER!!
