Let’s just spend a few moments dreaming about winning the lottery! How would you spend a big windfall? The National Lottery would love hear who you would share your winnings with if you scooped a life changing Lotto prize?

Here’s what The National Lottery have to say: “Amazingly there are over 4,600 National Lottery millionaires now in the UK winning £1 million or more. And what’s lovely to hear is that 95% of winners say they share their jackpot prize with family, charities and friends; with one third helping their children first.*

Real winner stories:

· Matt – I paid off Mums mortgage aged 28… it was the best feeling in the world
· Trish – I’ve set up investments so that years from now my son will be a millionaire just like me
· Natalie – before the win mum gave us so much help with the children, it was amazing to take her on a dream trip to New York to show her how much we love her and appreciated all her support.

That’s what they did, so now tell us: Who would win if you win? Who tops the list of those you would treat and why? "

…would it be giving your DH the ‘boys toy’ he has always wanted?

…or perhaps rewarding Mum & Dad for all their help and support over the years?

…how about an all-expenses paid girly holiday in the sun?

…or is there an individual or community project you’d love to support and help make their dream a reality?

…or how about you invest in a holiday house that everybody can enjoy for years to come?

Everyone who posts on this thread telling The National Lottery about who they would share their Lotto winnings and how will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck,

Obviously it would depend on how much we won, but first thing I would get passports for myself and the kids (Dh has a valid one!) and we would go travelling. We've all had a very difficult few years with my eldest child being ill and a long holiday adventure in the sun is just what we need, but haven't been able to afford (last holiday was in 2007!) I'm sure they would all love to go to Disneyland at some point too.

Once back in the UK we would look for a new house that would be suitable for all the family. (Love one with an indoor swimming pool - that would be my dream as I love swimming and would love the chance to swim everyday right at home.)
I would hire a housekeeper/cleaner to keep the place nice so I could spend much more of my time with the kids.

A new car would be nice as our current vehicle is 14 years old!

I would just be so grateful that I didn't need to worry about how much all the kids school uniforms and shoes cost. I wouldn't tell the kids I had won, but I would set a prize list with some really good "prizes" for the kids to aim for at the end of a set time, like a new laptop or phone for sustained hard work at school, for being polite, rooms clean and tidy and doing their chores and keep a chart of the progress.
I would also be grateful to be able to pay for the kids driving lessons and uni fees without worrying about it.
We would definitely give money to family members and charities. Would have to decide at the time how much depending on the winnings.
Nice daydreaming...now all I need is the right numbers with my lucky dip tickets!

I'd give my siblings money to buy houses, pay back my mum/MIL what they've given us over the years. Help out DP's family where needed. Pay off our mortgage etc.

I'd love to have a holiday villa somewhere hot that we could go and relax.
Buy a couple of really nice properties and rent them at affordable/cheap prices.
Invest some for my kids.
Give money to dementia charity in memory of my dad and Ataxia UK.

tigercub50 · 03/07/2017 19:11

We have been broke for ages & have had to borrow a lot of money from my parents, some of which we may not be able to pay back. So if I won the lottery, I would pay them back in full then pay off our mortgage & book a trip to Disneyland Florida.

Shakey15000 · 03/07/2017 19:12

The biggest thing I'd do is buy our community theatre which is in disrepair. I'd then set up various groups to learn stagecraft/gain confidence/socialise. I'm thinking of an over 60's group, single parents, carers, youth group, groups for people with autism, learning difficulties etc etc. Alongside being able to put on the plays/musicals I'd always wanted to starring moi

Family wise, I'd pay off mortgages for SIL/FIL, set up trust fund for niece/nephew. DH would get the medical treatment he needs privately, as would I! DS would, whilst have some treats, still be doing chores for pocket money Wink

JemIsMyNameNooneElseIsTheSame · 03/07/2017 19:14

I'd quit my job immediately, pack my bags as fast as I possibly could and head off with DS for adventures around the world. I'd send a few large cheques in the post to friends, family and charities.

MimsyBorogroves · 03/07/2017 19:15

I would pay off our debts, and let us all have our first holidays together. DS2 has never been away, and he's 5. DH and I have never been away together either, bar one night for our honeymoon 7 years ago.

I'd also give my parents a large chunk to help them out, and as a thank you for all the childcare they help with in a morning to enable DH and I to work.

Vonklump · 03/07/2017 19:15

Ooh.
I like the holiday house idea, for the family to enjoy.

I would treat the children to a holiday to Disneyland.
Followed by a safari the year after.

MotherPie · 03/07/2017 19:16

If I won mega millions I'd make my family and a few friends millionaires. I'd buy a lovely house in the country side with a hydrotherapy pool for my dogs. Oh, and before I left I'd drive past my ex's in a swanky car with a big 'fuck you' banner on it and a smug grin.

nobullshitallowed · 03/07/2017 19:20

I would treat the kids, my youngest DS has had it especially hard. Diagnosed with epilepsy at 6months, and has missed out on being about to do loads of stuff his big brother does, so if I won I'd take the kids to Disney world Florida. His dream is to meet Mickey Grin

I'd also open an animal sanctuary and rescue as many animals as I could.

I can only dream Grin

legfaced · 03/07/2017 19:20

I'd pay off our mortgage, give money to my brother to buy a place, some money to my parents to fund their travels, and to my BIL and SIL to pay off their mortgage.

We'd invest some so that we had a secure future for our son. Buy a bigger house, travel, some nice cars and fun things. I'd open my own business and we'd also do up period properties that had been fucked up.

PocketNiffler · 03/07/2017 19:25

We'd do a loft conversion, get a landscaper in, replace the bathroom, buy an amazing t4 camper van, small holiday home somewhere, give some to charity and our siblings.

Sierra259 · 03/07/2017 19:25

First thing I would do is pay off the mortgage. Buy a slightly bigger place outright and then sell the old house ridiculously cheaply to a young family who would never get on the property ladder otherwise. That money would then go to charity.
DH and I would give up work and do voluntary stuff instead. He wants to buy a holiday home in Hawaii! Put money in trust for the DC (without their knowledge!). Choose a different charity every month to donate to, so as many as possible get some help.

HoleySock · 03/07/2017 20:03

Oh my.. I would love to help out my brother. He is the absolute salt of the earth and my best friend. He works as a carer for the elderly. He is wonderful at his job and works every hour God sends and then more, picking up missed and late calls for carers who have called in sick because he cannot bear to think of his service users suffering. He earns so little and struggles to afford to maintain his one bed rented flat and run his car which is essential for his job. On top of that he is a marvellous brother and son to our parents. He helps with their gardening and is the first on hand to help with our kids at family gatherings.

If money was no limit, i would buy him a lovely home. Not a mansion, he wouldn't want it and it would be wasteful as he is single now, but a lovely sanctuary that could be his. No mortgage to pay and hopefully affordable bills. I would also take him to buy a good car, a reliable car that won't cost him an arm and a leg to keep on the road. I would love to throw money at him and say here you are love, you don't have to work any more, but he would hate it. He loves his job and money can't buy the happiness you get from a passion.

One day Buddy. One day.

Pimientos100 · 03/07/2017 20:19

I would love to build a free theme park for my local community lol, I think that would be awesome, it would create jobs and give a happiness boost too!!
Id love to buy a massive ski Chalet too (if the money stretched) where my family and friends could go on an annual holiday. Its no fun being rich if you have no one to share it with!!

LovePeaceAndHarmony · 03/07/2017 20:22

To be honest I would give 75% of it away it just wouldn't be right for me to keep the whole of it.

Sammyislost · 03/07/2017 20:50

If I won a lot of money on The Lottery, I would buy our house, and also a house for my son for his future. Then I'd go on an absolutely EPIC holiday to Florida that I've been dreaming of (and could never afford) and I'd send my Mum+Dad on holiday too.

holeinmypocket · 03/07/2017 21:44

Between us we have 5 siblings, it would be amazing if we could all be home owners / mortgage free (we'd have to have a BIG win)
I'd treat my mum, she is such a help to us all. She wants to go to New York.
I'd like to put my kids in private school, I think their future's are the best thing a lottery win could buy!
I'd treat my husband to a new car and I'd have a Rolex watch Grin

HermanCakeDestroyer · 03/07/2017 21:48

I lost a dear friend 4 years ago aged only 40 to breast cancer. I would spend some money visiting her mum in the south of France as we have been in contact during and since my friend's illness.

OnlyOneOfThose · 03/07/2017 21:49

In no particular order:

Trust fund for the kids;
Travelling;
Donate to charities close to my heart (two local specialist hospitals that are absolutely amazing but chronically underfunded).

HermanCakeDestroyer · 03/07/2017 21:52

BlackeyedPetitsPois · 03/07/2017 21:55

Oh yes yes yes I love dreaming about what I would spend my winnings on!

Firstly the sensible things - pay off mortgage, investments for my children and DH and me.
Then will come the lovely bits:
gift set amounts of cash to all our relatives.
Buy a house and car etc. Buy a lovely holiday home(s) in Puglia, and Yorkshire.
If it was a very big win I would give a lot away to charity or even set up my own charity.
Indulge my DH and get him one of those massive wine cellars, heck I'll buy him a whole vineyard to go with our home in Puglia (grow some nice Negroamaro or Primitivo grapes).

Probably give up work and Maybe run a small Masseria in Puglia.

I could go on and on......................

I'd make sure dd didn't have to worry about debt when going to uni. Make sure my family were comfy. With a really big win I'd fund a project for isolated people.

I'd like a small detached house with a bit of woodland for me and I'd give up work so I have more time with some voluntary work which is dear to my heart.

MaureenMLove · 03/07/2017 22:01

I love where I live, mainly because my friends live here, so I probably wouldn't leave. Initially, I'd head up to my favourite place in the highlands of Scotland to think and breath. Whilst I'm there, my house would be completely renovated, so that I could come home ready for the plan!

DD will have found a house by then and I'd pay for that. Other family members would be sorted with enough to pay mortgages or buy property. Best friends count as family too.

I think I'd invest in property wherever I could. I've always loved the idea of buy up property and doing them up. I'd be able to take a big back seat and let everyone else do the work of course! I'd fly in at the end and do the cushions and curtains! Grin

Defo have property abroad too. One for me and one or two for rental for my nearest and dearest.

But mainly, I'd breath and feel alive!

ssd · 03/07/2017 22:07

I'd give my friends envelopes with large cheques in them!

also treat my kids to whatever they wanted, for a little while

I'd go into shops I dont have the confidence to go into now and walk in with my head high
