Let’s just spend a few moments dreaming about winning the lottery! How would you spend a big windfall? The National Lottery would love hear who you would share your winnings with if you scooped a life changing Lotto prize?

Here’s what The National Lottery have to say: “Amazingly there are over 4,600 National Lottery millionaires now in the UK winning £1 million or more. And what’s lovely to hear is that 95% of winners say they share their jackpot prize with family, charities and friends; with one third helping their children first.*

Real winner stories:

· Matt – I paid off Mums mortgage aged 28… it was the best feeling in the world
· Trish – I’ve set up investments so that years from now my son will be a millionaire just like me
· Natalie – before the win mum gave us so much help with the children, it was amazing to take her on a dream trip to New York to show her how much we love her and appreciated all her support.

That’s what they did, so now tell us: Who would win if you win? Who tops the list of those you would treat and why? "

…would it be giving your DH the ‘boys toy’ he has always wanted?

…or perhaps rewarding Mum & Dad for all their help and support over the years?

…how about an all-expenses paid girly holiday in the sun?

…or is there an individual or community project you’d love to support and help make their dream a reality?

…or how about you invest in a holiday house that everybody can enjoy for years to come?

Everyone who posts on this thread telling The National Lottery about who they would share their Lotto winnings and how will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck,

A nice house for myself and another for my mum

Lydia30 · 11/07/2017 22:58

If it was one of the multi-million pound wins I would put a large sum into trust for each of my 7 grandchildren. We would leave the county and buy a home abroad and I would help several charities, mainly animal based.

Flower752 · 11/07/2017 23:10

I've always imagined if we had a big win we could have the loft converted to create some space, my husband could take early retirement from his very demanding job and we would be able to work together as foster carers. We would also buy a new car because it's so depressing keep getting this one repaired all the time and I would pay for my mum to have all the care she needs as she has had such a lot to cope with over the past few years, and buy a holiday home that all our family and friends could benefit from for years to come...I think it is all about quality of life and memories that money can help with that has the greatest value.

Quietvoiceplease · 12/07/2017 10:00

Oh what a lovely daydream to have.
I would love the choices that it would enable me to have.
I'd do all the usual things: pay off mortgages of those close to me, take a holiday, have sufficient funds to know my lovely parents will never have to worry about care needs in very late age, give up my job to do something voluntary and more fulfilling.
Lots of brilliant holidays and brilliant memories.
And then the joy of being able to support some fantastic charities that have helped us at various times.
Oh, what a lovely daydream....

WinkyisbackontheButterBeer · 12/07/2017 13:08

I wouid buy us, my parents, my auntie and my brother houses close enough together that we could see each other regularly.

I wouid fund trips and additional resources for my school so that my lovely headteacher didn't have to worry about funding cuts.

I would also set up something to give the children in the area around school better opportunities and access to different life experiences.

FoofFighter · 12/07/2017 17:06

Aside from the usual kind of stuff I would pay off my exes mortgage as that will benefit our dc both in terms of him having more cash and for the future.

I'd also open and run an American style diner BlushI have the location, name, interior design and the menu already planned!

FlyMeToDunoon · 12/07/2017 18:52

I would buy my brother a house so that he didn't have to work in the Middle East anymore.
I would do up my mum's house to make her 80s and up easier.
I would buy my partner's daughter a house so that she could stop renting privately.
I would also start a housing cooperative with low rents for families like mine who work full time on low wages, may be on HB and find renting privately difficult, stressful and incredibly expensive.

user1497455653 · 12/07/2017 19:13

I would give up work and buy a nice little plot of land and manage my own project build. It would be my 'day job' albeit a little bit flexible and I would involve my children in the design and have a family home that reflected us - not the norm!

I would treat my ever loving and supportive parents to a African safari holiday as it's something they have spoken about for quite a while. I would hate for it to never be ticked off their bucket list.

Finally (for now) I would like to be involved in creating a family home for a disabled child that met all the families needs. From accessible front doors, to wet rooms with hoists and sensory back gardens that all the family could enjoy. I'd love to make someone's life that little bit easier.

BraveBear · 12/07/2017 19:32

Ah, I like to think about this sometimes on the commute!

If I won a million or under I'd probably try to keep it quiet to be honest, and treat my loved ones as much as possible and help out if they ever needed it. And I'd see about arranging private nursing care for my mother.

Massive windfall - I'd buy my DM a nice house, and aim to give at least 25% away to family, best friends and my favourite charities and local charities. I'd organize a big luxury holiday for all of my loved ones to celebrate, and I'd buy a house with a room my autistic DS could use as a gaming studio and enough land to establish an animal sanctuary.

And now I'm going to check that my online ticket is still current!

cluckyhen · 12/07/2017 20:22

I would buy us a house as we currently rent and then I would ensure we all had the trip of a lifetime.

In the wider scheme I would pay the MIL's mortgage off and also ensure that there was a nest egg for the DC when they get older. I like to think we would invest wisely to ensure that we have a good sum that keeps turning over

FiloPasty · 12/07/2017 20:51

I'd buy holiday homes around the U.K. And Europe and spend all the school holidays traveling with my husband and children.

I'd also give my house a long overdue renovation, pay off my mums mortgage and my siblings :)

Buy lots of expensive wine & clothes too

grannybiker · 12/07/2017 22:39

I could do so much good with a win!
Homes for our children, (Investment properties until they're ready to move out.)
I'd also buy a property to run a community cancer support group from. Been involved with them for over a year and their own premises would help them support more people affected by cancer.

Foniks · 13/07/2017 00:02

I'd be karma for a few weeks and pay back some good people.
And of course, help family members to buy a home/their children's education or just to be comfortable.
Then, make sure there is enough left at the end for my own children to have in trust as their rainy day fund when they're older.

Fillyfolly · 13/07/2017 00:54

I need a new bed!!! Desperately! My child has been using my bed as a trampoline and rowing machine for the past few years!! It is, or rather, was a beautiful brass bed, seen better days now, mattress and base.. taken out by my five year old! So... the FIRST thing I would buy if I won the national lottery, would be a big superking, ridiculously expensive bed, exquisite base, °a memory foam mattress, maybe one that works by remote control to help me in and out of bed, and can slot in a 50inch tv and plays my sex in the city dvds and makes me breakfast in bed and does the school run!!! That's the first thing I would definitely buy, but not the last!😆

boo2410 · 13/07/2017 07:47

I've dreamed of this many a time. I'd make sure my family were ok for life, put a lump sum away for my son for when he grows up. For me I'd buy a 4 bedroom bungalow fully adapted as I am now in a wheelchair and employ a live in carer to help me run the house. I'd definitely not go public but would give some money to charities close to my heart and the best bit I would never have to worry about money again! I can but dream.

WinstonChurchill · 13/07/2017 08:58

I would pay off the mortgages off for my immediate family, buy a new car, set up trusts for my children, nieces and nephew, pay for a holiday, make a large donation to the charity where we adopted our pets and take flying lessons just for myself....selfish I know x

hann24 · 13/07/2017 12:00

I'm currently in the renting trap, so the first thing I would do is buy a house.

Provided I have some money left I would then pay off my mums mortgage and buy my boyfriend a sailing boat (something he dreams about).

Any money left over would be put into savings to ensure I can look after my family in the future.

lucyanntrevelyan · 13/07/2017 12:15

I would spend it on my children first - it would depend how much I won how much I would feel able to share around the rest of the family. The ability to give my children financial stability for their future would be the biggest win for me, I would probably buy a property for each of them and put money in trust for a university education or business start up depending what would suit them best.

My parents are baby boomers who have plenty more than they need at the moment so I would not share with them as there is nothing they would want or need. I would love to have enough to share with my cousin who has had a really shitty few years with cancer and associated money worries after job loss. She is lovely and positive and gives a lot to her community, but has little to spend on herself and I don't have much to spare so I would pay off her mortgage if I were able.

PickAChew · 13/07/2017 12:37

We'd buy a house with an annex for DS1 when he grows up.

And move MIL and my parents into homes more suited to their age and health.

Anything left would be squirreled away for the future since DS2 will need to be provided for when we're no longer able to look after him.

GhostsToMonsoon · 13/07/2017 12:43

If I won a huge sum on the lottery (which I have played about twice in my life) I'd ensure that my children and niece and nephew were well provided for in the future. I'd pay off my sister's mortgage and give my parents some money for holidays and for their old age. I would donate some to a range of charities. I would buy up an area of land near my house that's to have houses built on and make it into a park/nature reserve. DH could retire from a job that's in danger of turning him into an alcoholic.

Oddsocksforeveryone · 13/07/2017 13:59

If we won megabucks...
Take the DC on holiday, we haven't been able to afford one for years.
Buy a car, ours broke and we haven't replaced it.
Buy a house.
Savings for the dc.
I wouldn't want to go public with the win so would probably have fake promotion for DH as cover and would use quarterly "bonuses" to help out family and friends.
Anonymous charity donations.
Pay for investigations for a few people I know of who are in constant pain but no diagnosis/treatment.
Pour money into dc school, which I would ideally keep them at.
It just would be nice to be in a position to buy necessities for ourselves and others when needed. Washer breaks, no worry we'll buy a new one. Mum needs bathroom doing, no problem we'll get that. Brother needs surgery and ideally time off work but can't afford it, we've got you covered. DH can't afford to take paternity leave, not a problem anymore. None of my friends/family etc ever getting to the till for food shopping and not having enough cash.
It would be nice just to take some of the worry from those close to us.

And a hot tub. I would love a hot tub.

Groovee · 13/07/2017 14:02

Pay off my mortgage and credit card.

Travel to places that I only ever dreamed off.

Set up a support group for those with fibromyalgia to make friends and to learn different ways to pace ourselves to take more control of our condition.

1sttime84 · 13/07/2017 15:35

I'd firstly make sure my family are taken care of by paying of their mortgages and having a small nest egg for the future.
I'd then work with my father who has always dreamt about helping women in India... to help educate them so they can pass this on to their own children and to help orphans out there so maybe set up an orphanage.

GruffaloPants · 13/07/2017 16:02

Well assuming a big jackpot...

Homes for all family members.
Nice holiday homes for my mum and dad and my mil and fil.
Some sort of fund set up for nieces and nephews to give them a good start in adulthood.
Larger funds for our own kids.
New tent for DP!

Precious2012 · 13/07/2017 16:46

I'd pay off all our debts, buy a house, holiday for the whole summer in florida.
I'd also buy a place in Cyprus for my mum and dad as that is what they would love to do themselves.
