Let’s just spend a few moments dreaming about winning the lottery! How would you spend a big windfall? The National Lottery would love hear who you would share your winnings with if you scooped a life changing Lotto prize?

Here’s what The National Lottery have to say: “Amazingly there are over 4,600 National Lottery millionaires now in the UK winning £1 million or more. And what’s lovely to hear is that 95% of winners say they share their jackpot prize with family, charities and friends; with one third helping their children first.*

Real winner stories:

· Matt – I paid off Mums mortgage aged 28… it was the best feeling in the world
· Trish – I’ve set up investments so that years from now my son will be a millionaire just like me
· Natalie – before the win mum gave us so much help with the children, it was amazing to take her on a dream trip to New York to show her how much we love her and appreciated all her support.

That’s what they did, so now tell us: Who would win if you win? Who tops the list of those you would treat and why? "

…would it be giving your DH the ‘boys toy’ he has always wanted?

…or perhaps rewarding Mum & Dad for all their help and support over the years?

…how about an all-expenses paid girly holiday in the sun?

…or is there an individual or community project you’d love to support and help make their dream a reality?

…or how about you invest in a holiday house that everybody can enjoy for years to come?

Everyone who posts on this thread telling The National Lottery about who they would share their Lotto winnings and how will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck,

Sorry, that got a bit long! Blush

sparky771177 · 08/07/2017 07:41

I would buy a big house, keep enough money to live on, then give the rest to charity.

BL0SS0M · 08/07/2017 08:20

I would do a lot of travelling starting with hawaii where ive always wanted to go and i'd spoil my family by paying their mortgages going on a big family holiday and taking them out for dinner to tell them the news!

Ikea1234 · 08/07/2017 08:22

Okay, not having given this any thought at all (!) I would pay off the last of the mortgage (not many years left, but would rather own the house than not) and then set to work I the building workI have planned for it,which, were knowable top around70k (build en suite from scratch, new bathroom, new kitchen, takeout wall, bifold doors to garden, new flooring, plastering, new porch entranceway, new patio and decking etc. Wouldinvest for my son he too would benefit when he was older and be comfortable for life. Book a dream holiday like Australia, an American tour or Canada. My gift to others in my family would also be a big holiday each. We have relatives that have never been abroad in their life,so a lovely treat like that would be appreciated I think.

Then I might think about resigning from my job and live the high life!

sosotalk · 08/07/2017 09:58

I'd definitely pay off my parent's mortgage and treat them to a lovely cruise.

My partner is into audio engineering so I'd also set him up with a recording studio of his own!

Mrscaindingle · 08/07/2017 10:11

I like many others I have idled away many a happy hour thinking about this, assuming we are talking a life changing win here I would pay off mortgages of family and friends. Buy my brother and sister a house so they can have some security, give up my job leaving a small windfall for each of my colleagues.

I would buy a house close to my kids school (nice but not too palatial) take some fabulous holidays and treat my mum to whatever she wants. I would need to have something purposeful to do and would set up an animal sanctuary and hire my friend to run it for me. Once the kids had left I would then travel the world saving animals from cruelty.

JeKEBubAng · 08/07/2017 10:38

I would finally be able to afford to move back to where my parents live and see them a lot more often. I would pay off their mortgages and then I would help my husband to set up his own martial arts gym. I would finally get my manual driving licence and then go rallying!

mclarkie · 08/07/2017 11:51

I'd buy a plot of land in Devon near to my folks and build a state of the art eco home with garage for a Tesla and rooftop solar and wind turbine to charge it.
You can only dream eh! seeing as I never play the lottery :)

Huffpot · 08/07/2017 12:02

I've dreamed of this too...
I would buy DP a new work van, pay the council tax a year ahead
A trip home to Australia for the first time in 9 years (impossible with kids and mortgage).
I'd anonymously buy my sisters a house each so they had security.
I'd buy my mum a beach house which has always been her dream and invest the rest
I'd love to have the security of the money behind me and to give my kids a good future

bosch121212 · 08/07/2017 12:40

Pay of all debts, give my house that I live in now to our neighbours(who rent and are lovely neighbours), I'd take care of all my family, and a couple of close friends, take a holiday(s) of a lifetime, and lastly, I'd hire Kevin McLoud, Sarah Beeney, George Clark and a few other to plan and oversee my dream home, and for the gardens I'd put the GroundForce team back together to do the outside.

thekiwibex · 08/07/2017 13:58

First, I'd pay off any debts held by our families (us, parents, and siblings), then I'd make donations to several of our favourite charities. Then the rest would be for us to invest or splurge as we like!

slithytove · 08/07/2017 15:34

Entirely depends on how much but:

Pay off mortgage
Have an amazing holiday/s
Set up trust funds for kids
Buy bigger house / property portfolio
Set up business for husband
Amazing car for everyone I can!
Trust funds for siblings
Massive gifts for parents and friends
Huge donation to SANDS, GOSH and some other charities

CoverYourKneesUp · 08/07/2017 17:16

I'd buy a home for my dad and 4 siblings, aged 12 thru 19, who have lived in a dilapidated 2 bed mobile home with him as a single parent for nearly 5 years.

Then I'd set up a charity for free psychological therapy/counselling for children of divorce and broken homes. I remember my dad skipping meals to pay because he knew how important it was for them to be able to talk to someone when they went through a really traumatic (not ordinary/peaceful) ordeal when their parents split.

PysgodMawr · 08/07/2017 18:00

I would not want anyone to know.
I would share with as many family and friends I could, with as much money as possible, but anonymously.

If it was a huge win, I would also buy land and property in the deprived area we live in ( my children and I ) and we would set up a charity run community arts project where we could help disadvantaged and ASD young people to gain confidence and skills , and have respite , through music, drama ,art and ethical food producing projects . We would build partnerships with local public and charitable organisations . I and the children would live and work there together , and there would be free accommodation for voluntary workers and people using the space .
We'd support local artists and musicians and encourage and support young people around here - where there is poverty and high unemployment- to find their strengths and capabilities through self expression and validation.
Lots of animals and outdoor space, and a big performance and exhibition space, a recording studio and shared cooking and eating area.
All built, powered and run using ethical and sustainable materials and maintaining as low a footprint as possible .
Run as a cooperative and with no big egos or unethical connections .
Quietly but with determination.
We've talked loads about wanting to do this , and how it could be .
We would really love to do this , but can't imagine how , without a huge amount of capital which would have to be invested ethically to keep afloat.

DirtyDancing · 08/07/2017 18:20

Quit work first of all!

Then I would;

pay for myself to do a Masters in nutrition

Buy a house for my Mum near to where we live, as she can't afford to move closer to us.

Stay in our home but pay off mortgage and get a bad-ass Poggenpohl kitchen put it with uber cool appliances Smile

Buy a flat each for my kids and rent out until they are 18 to live/ sell/ use income from rent

Buy myself a Porsche, DH a Ferrari and my Mum a car of her choice which would probably be a Kia or something knowing her.

Get myself a personal trainer 3 times a week.

Purchase a Chanel quilted handbag. Lush.

Anonymous donation to charities: make a wish foundation and CMV action

Clearly I would win several millions! Grin

zippyants · 08/07/2017 18:48

Share? Nearly coughed my Twiglet up. Yeh....I's 'share' with my other half and he would tell me what to do with the rest! Apart from that.....I would still like to get the odd offer, eat at Mc D's and barter 'til I'm blue in the face. Money would not change me........thinking.......thinking..........yes it would.

ha2el · 08/07/2017 19:48

I would share with my grown up children and brothers and sisters. Home ownership would be top of my priority list for us all. Then I would quietly look at other relatives and friends to see where I could help out. I would also have a hard think about the charities are that I mostly feel close to and look at the best way of helping them out long term.

Tean1 · 08/07/2017 20:15

Think it would depend on how much I won. I'd put enough aside for my children to go through university without having to get any loans, then wait a while. I wouldn't want them to feel they don't need to work, as think that people should make their own way in life.

wafflesandicecream · 08/07/2017 20:31

I'm really boring, I'd go on a shopping spree for clothes that actually fit ( kids get all the spare money spent on their clothes with them forever growing, so never any left over for myself)

Then I'd buy a house - nothing big as obviously upkeep would be less with a sensible sized property.

I'd also be able to get through uni without living off a student budget.

The rest would go into trust funds for the kids and some investments

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 08/07/2017 20:33

I'd buy us a bigger house with a small garden and a bedroom for each of the children and maybe a spare room too.
I'd buy my parents house so they didn't have a mortgage and I'd have an investment for my retirement.
I'd buy my brother a house.
If there was any money left I'd give it to charity.

MakeTeaNotWar · 08/07/2017 21:31

One of my favourite fantasies! I'd pay off the mortgage, landscape the garden and finish off all those DIY jobs that never get done. We'd go on an amazing holiday to Sri Lanka and I'd want to treat my Mum and Dad to something amazing - maybe a Carribbean cruise. Then I'd think about the children's voucher and make provision for them,

Rachdayan · 08/07/2017 21:48

I'd go on an extended holiday to see the world with my husband. Once done travelling i'd buy a villa in Turkey and make a permanent move over there and get involved with the local street animal charities. My passion has always been animals and travel, would love a lotto win to make it a reality.

buckley1983 · 08/07/2017 22:02

Reading this thread with interest!
Often daydream about this.. ideally I'd like to remains anonymous - but I haven't figured out exactly how I'd do this yet.
I'd love to be able to clear the mortgages of friends & family - an obvious one, but one which would make a massive difference to those close to me as don't know anyone with money to spare at the end of the month!
I'd also love to set up a charity to help those on a low income with white goods, carpeting & decorating. I work for a charity currently & have many clients in social housing, with long-term health conditions & limited income. There is no Community Care Grant anymore - which used to be able to help to individuals in this situation. There's also no welfare assistance scheme in the county I cover, so very few options or help available.
I know what a massive difference these things can make to people, so to be able to offer practical help to (hopefully) many people would be amazing.
I'd also love to rent a whole bunch of yurts for a big family party & camp out! :)

RedheadinCamelFlarge · 08/07/2017 22:53

I'd buy us (and our families) electric cars so we could stop polluting with our current vehicles. Everything from sensible to racy!

Then I'd fund the rebuilding project our church desperately needs, so that we have more space for community groups to come and use the halls, and making them all 100% accessible as well. That would make me so happy - the community there has given us so much love, it'd be a joy to give back!

andbabymakesthree · 08/07/2017 22:54

House holiday and car!
