We have been asked by our partner Lidl, if we have any MNers with arty children who would like their masterpieces to feature in Lidl stores nationwide!

Lidl say "We're always looking for new ways to help families shop, and as part of this we are rolling out kids trolleys! We have space on the trolleys and trolley bay for some design and we'd love to celebrate all the work we do with Mumsnet by showcasing the artwork of Mumsnetter's children in this space. We'd love to see pictures featuring fresh fruit and veg, or your child's interpretation of family supermarket shopping!"

To enter:
Ask your child to do a drawing on paper of fruit, vegetables or even general shopping - this can be in pen, crayon, paint or whatever medium they like (they can add their first name if they like) - and on A4 or A3 paper.
Take a photo of it and add it to this thread. But do keep the original safe and flat!
All T&Cs are below but be sure to add it by midnight on Thursday 5th January 2017. Lidl with an independent judge will then pick the winners and swing into action.

Lidl will be picking up to 3 winners, and each winning artwork will receive a £100 voucher to spend in Lidl and may have their artwork featured in store and in other marketing materials.

Thanks

These are wonderful - placematking in hope DD will have a go.
Admiral I have to disagree with your POV, sorry.

Muddlingthroughtoo · 28/12/2016 08:17

Wow, so you want Lidl to pay thousands to an artist/s and the artist will draw designs that look like a 5-12 year old has done them? And some actual 5-12 year olds will miss out on the opportunity of winning £100 and getting their artwork on trolleys? That doesn't sound right.

Spec work is something that plagues artists

I see your point in the business world. However, these are children. They are not artists, they are not designers, they are never getting paid for their work but just doing something they enjoy as part of a competition.

Talk about an overreaction to a kids competition!

Artists won't be out of a job, as there isn't a job in the first place - It's a kids colouring contest for goodness sake.

They aren't being used and the pictures aren't worthless, they are trying their best entering a creative competition to win a prize.

DramaInPyjamas · 28/12/2016 09:25

Kids can't even draw a picture these days without someone being offended

My younger self was continuously providing content for magazines and tv shows by sending in my hard worked on drawings to be shown, kids just want to draw and show it off and be proud of their work.

Anyway, DD is searching out her felt tips. Grin

MavisTheTwinklyToreador · 28/12/2016 09:57

This isn't a colouring competition, they haven't given colouring sheets. It's asking for original work with a paltry reward. The store benefits enormously.

SoupDragon · 28/12/2016 10:14

If you think your child's time and effort is worthless, go ahead

Dont be ridiculous. By your should never be any kind if kids competition ever becuase their time and effort is "worthless"

Children do stuff for the enjoyment of doing it. If they have gained enjoyment then the time and effort is not worthless. Unless your children are completely materialistic... but I've not raised mine like that.

SoupDragon · 28/12/2016 10:18

How is this any different to you participating in the sponsored threads where you give your opinion/ideas free of charge, purely for the chance of winning a voucher in a draw?

DramaInPyjamas · 28/12/2016 10:20

Mavis and Admiral

do you invoice your child's teachers for spec work when they have to provide an original drawing or writing for an assignment?

MavisTheTwinklyToreador · 28/12/2016 10:25

Do teachers pass my kids artwork to an ad agency to be printed up for various bits of merchandise to be used nationwide? Do teachers use my kids artwork to commercially promote themselves?

SoupDragon · 28/12/2016 10:33

Best you hot foot it over to the whole Sponsored/product test/competition topics and post your complaint on every single thread then.

DramaInPyjamas · 28/12/2016 10:37

In some cases yes,
my children have many assignments over the years via school for artwork and short stories to promote school, local government, theatre productions, and shops, libraries etc

And they do it, for enjoyment and fun.

@Chocolateisnottheonlyfruit

Is it supposed to include the lidl logo in the picture ?

hi - no need to include the logo at all.

I entirely understand the problem with spec work, but am of the opinion that every single thing that encourages children to pick up pens and paper must be encouraged! Perhaps the budding artist can re invest their winnings into more tools and materials, which can only be good. Through work I've had the most unbelievable experiences with people and 'spec work', but we have to rise above it. In creative industries eventually quality speaks volumes. Creating with generosity ingenuity and positivity is the way to go. I laugh in the face of spec work, but am really comfortable with my kids entering this comp.

I don't think my child's time is worthless but nor do I think all worth comes from a monetary source. I don't really care tbh if it's saving Lidl money. I'll ask Dd (6) if she wants to take part and if she does she can draw a picture and I'll post it here. If she doesn't want to then she won't.

Two entries from our household:

Ds aged 9, blue background,
and ds aged 11 , carrot and chocolate.

Also to lidl if your listening - the main thing that prevents me from shopping in lidl is that if I want to shop in my little ones nap time which I like to do I can't go to lidl because you don't have lying down baby seats in the trolleys only toddler Seats! So I either have to go when he's awake which ruins my browsing capability or go to asda! Which is a shame because they're are some things that I like to buy from lidl.
