Family life can often be chaotic at times, but often chaos can create the best family memories. Bassetts Vitamins would love to know your stories of when things didn’t quite go to plan, that you can look back on and laugh at.

Here’s what Bassetts Vitamins have to say: “At Bassetts Vitamins we know that family life is colourful and rarely straightforward. However, whilst family days out are a great opportunity to enjoy precious and active time together, families need to be ready and set to go, to deal with whatever challenges the day may bring. Our intention is to support families through the ups and downs of family life.”

So, tell us about a moment of chaos in your family which (eventually) made a funny story. Have camping trips been cut short by a tent collapsing in the middle of the night? Or an attempt to present yourself as a perfectly normal family went horribly wrong.

Whatever your treasured family chaos, Bassetts Vitamins would love to hear it, so post your story below.

All those who share a story below will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 John Lewis voucher.

Thanks and good luck

Coming back from a holiday in Norfolk - the weather Gods decided that now would be a good time for monsoon whether and to simultaneously make it so hot that the car overheated. Ensue multiple stops each time this happened waiting for the car to cool or for the AA man to arrive, and trying to keep DCs entertaining and/or cool/sheltered, and being absolutely shattered on arriving home.

We tend to ignore rain because if you pay it too much attention you might never go out anywhere. We had a great day out in St Ives, parking on an estate just out of town to avoid busy car parks and paying for parking. Anyway we weren't dressed for rain and there was a torrential downpour. Absolutely drenched by the time we got back to the car, but my partner did have some spare clothes in there as we were on a camping holiday at the time. I'm afraid that we did strip down completely to get changed as even the underwear was drenched and we had quite a long drive back. Although we tried to be discreet it probably didn't work very well as curtains were twitching. Ah well, it was a great day. And as with all these things I tend to feel that the more extreme the weather the more memorable the day!

We broke down on holiday (in france) and had to wait for 5 hours in the middle of the road at traffic lights for the recovery truck. It was also our little boy's 4th birthday. After the stress of creating a large traffic jam and having to listen to angry drivers hurling abuse at us as they passed, trying to occupy an active child in a confined space (he did us really proud) and having to do wees out of the open door (him, not us!) we were finally rescued. Our holiday, and his birthday, were rather spoiled as we had to hire a car and drive straight home (our vehicle got 'repatriated' three weeks later by the recovery company). This was last month and we can just about look back and laugh at it now. And we owe our LO one HUGE party to make up for it! :)

When two our youngest grandsons were staying with us. I had just decorated their playing room and painted the walls with a nice bright emulsion. One afternoon the eldest one of the two came into the living room and asked me to come and have a look what his younger brother had done. There was a massive gap on the wall where the emulsion paint should have been. It looked like on of those kappow speak bubbles in kids comics. The younger of the two grandsons had managed to peel away and area of paint that was about 3 feet by 3 feet.

We were taking our DC for an interview for her first job, when the dog decided to escape.

We charged all round the village, up and down garden paths, asking neighbours to 'stop that dog'. Eventually he was caught and we bundled in the car, and she managed to make the interview with seconds to spare.

She got the job!

A family wedding was going great until my ds asked when are you getting changed into your smart clothes ? to his auntie

When I was a child I was terrified of clowns so whenever we went to the circus I used to have to close my eyes when the clowns came on or I would scream the place down. One time we went to Blackpool Tower Circus & the famous Charlie Cairoli was there & they did the trick where they throw the bucket of water but it's only bits of paper. Unfortunately the trick went wrong & when they threw the water it soaked me to the skin as I was on the front row & Charlie Cairoli came over & gave me a kiss which scared me to death & I screamed so loudly. I've never lived it down & we always laugh about it especially when we reminisce about our childhood with my Mum who has Alzheimers. Her short term memory is non existent but her long term memory is great & it's good to see her laugh about funny stories like this

Camping in France with 2 toddlers under 4. They were amazing helping to erect the tent. Hubby said he could fix a light for bedtime stories so attached it to the car battery - forgot when he went for fish and chips and it went under the tent and followed him up the road - the boys loved it!

mooota1514 · 28/08/2016 13:34

DS left Bear on the bus when he was 2. He screamed for 2 hours until he crashed out from sheer exhaustion. We had a spare at home but he can't sleep without him.

On the third day of our week long holiday to Greece the whole hotel guests came down with food poisoning. We were that ill my Husband, myself and our ten year old twins were really ill and spent the rest of our holiday in the hotel room feeling really poorly, being sick and running to the loo all the time. The holiday was completely ruined. On the day we were due to leave we still felt groggy and ill.I don't know how we found the strength to pack up our belongings and go home.On the flight home we all kept on running to the toilet and passing a terrible smelling wind. The poor people on the row behind us were complaining of an 'eggy smell'.I have never felt so embarrassed in my life.We put the people behind us through four hours of 'smelly wind' for the whole journey home. The people next to us on the flight got fed up of us wanting to get out of our seat all the time to go to the toilet. That holiday was a complete disaster, when I got home I complained to the holiday companywho refunded the cost of the holiday

two young children, chaos usually features at some part during our day! The most recent one was where I had a heck of a lot to do, hubby wasn't helping much, we both had to get to work etc etc. Anyway I shouted down to hubby get Jack dressed and take him to the childminders! I heard him mumble something like these shorts are too big, oh well. (didn't have the time to see them before they went as getting myself and daughter ready for school) I picked my son up later in the day, he's only dressed in my daughters pyjama shorts and a bright orange (he's got red hair!) pyjama top. Seriously embarrassing but clearly pointed out that his daddy had dressed him like that! eeeee.

Projectile poo all over the newly painted lounge walls

Marg2k8 · 28/08/2016 14:31

My children are older now, but chaos still reigns. This week, DD is moving back home, whilst DS is moving out. I wonder if I will treasure this moving chaos in years to come.

A few years ago one April, we went on holiday to the beach. Yep. Such a lovely holiday location. It was cold, freezing, and the water stung. Of course, on holidays, something always happens that makes the whole thing priceless, and my husband always seemed to trigger that. It wasn't until the third day when the Hubbie decided to run past all of the Tents in a Easter Bunny outfit with my son, the best thing I have ever seen. We then saw him trip over the ropes holding the toilet tent up, forcing the tent to come tumbling down whilst a middle aged woman was sitting on it with a roll of toilet paper in her hand.Should of seen her face! She didn't know whether to laugh or scream.

On holiday in Florida DD managed to leave her soft toy dog behind somewhere in a Disney theme park. As you can imagine she was beside herself with worry/tears etc but after retracing our steps for an hour we located the runaway and it was as if nothing had happened!

finleypop · 28/08/2016 15:52

All the family were gathered waiting to go to a family wedding. My son who was 6 & feeling very smart in his suit, turned to My Brother-in-Laws girlfriend & said, so when are you going to put your smart clothes on? Of course, she thought she was already wearing her smart clothes, but he really wasn't wrong in thinking she should get changed! I was mortified at the time, but we roll around laughing about it now!

stefalfie11 · 28/08/2016 16:01

when we were last on holiday in spain a few years ago my DS cut his foot on a broken tile in the pool, he came out towards my husband and I with blood pouring everywhere (in hindsight there probably wasnt that much but in the water, it looks so much worse than it is) and I went to go and pick him up out of the pool to take him to the first aid point but as i got up and saw all the blood I suddenly felt extremely faint and had to sit on the ground to avoid falling. This is from someone who has never had a reaction to blood before! My husband ended up taking us both to the first aid point, DS for butterfly stiches and me for a lie down. Looking back now, what a picture we must have looked!!

Family chaos has to be Xmas day, there is so much mess paper and boxes everywhere, the kitchen full of pots and pans ready to start dinner. Children not wanting to get dressed and just play with toys but i love Xmas and wouldn't have it any other way :)

rachelmi · 28/08/2016 18:07

Christmas morning and birthdays are chaos from dawn to dusk. You wonder if your house will ever recover, but these are my very special memories I would trade for nothing. Great times!

vonniebab2 · 28/08/2016 19:20

Leaving favourite teddy on the bus, thank goodness we got him back within a few hours!

Cailin7 · 28/08/2016 19:55

Our family holiday to italy. Our 2 hour drive from the airport turned into a 10 hour drive due to the road closing for roadworks. We joined up with another family from ireland who were also lost in the chaos and we all arrived at 4am the next day. Fell into bed and woke at a few hours later to blue skies and gorgeous pool and gardens. It was like a bad dream, we had to ask did that really happen.

Going on holiday to my sister's in America. My youngest was 10 months old and only slept for half an hour during the long flight. She'd just learned to crawl and was everywhere but wouldn't go to her dad, I was shattered when we landed and so was she!!
