Trainline is developing a new days out tool to help with finding new places to visit and they’d love to know which family days out you’re planning this year, and – if you’re going by train – how you plan on entertaining your children on the journey.

They also want you to get involved with helping them to shape their new tool - you can suggest new attractions to be included in the tool using the “suggest” button.

Here’s what Trainline has to say: “At Trainline we’re always looking for ways to make journeys smarter. Clare Gilmartin our CEO, is a mother of three, and keeps us focussed on our customers by reminding us that “it’s the little things that make a big difference”, from saving a few minutes by using a mobile train ticket to getting a great deal using the best fare finder, and this is the ethos that we have at the heart of what we do. Our latest days out tool helps you to find and plan a day out by train, just in time for the summer holidays, but we want your ideas to take it the extra mile.”

So, whether you’ve got educational trips or adventure filled days planned for the summer holidays (and beyond!), let Trainline know about them and your train journey entertainment tips below.

All those who share a day out or tips for entertaining children on the train below will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher from a store of their choice (from a list).

Please note that the days out tool is new and development of it is still underway. Some less popular train routes haven’t been added yet, but will be with time. There will also be more attractions added so please make suggestions on what you’d like to see next. Additionally, if you live in London please search from a mainline station to get the best results.

Thanks and good luck

Family day we have out is going to Stamford on the train and then going to the George Hotel having afternoon tea and then have a shop about and play on the large meadow before heading back home.

I had an amazing day out on the train last Saturday, from Torquay yo Bath Spa and then a relaxing pamper day spent at Thermae Bsth Spa! I floated around for hours in their rooftop pool, had a delicious lunch with prosecco then a relaxed straight through train home - perfect relaxing day out!

We are just back from two lovely weeks in Cornwall. We now plan to spend some time at home and then have days out at the park. Our fav family trip in Cornwall was a picnic on the beach followed by body boarding

Today us, three generations are off to Norwich by train to see the city and walk around the market. What will we find...?
Summer has been good to us this year :)

maryandbuzz1 · 06/08/2016 07:59

We are going down to London for the day as we tend to do once every summer holiday and all look forward to it greatly. We have visited various places from museums, the LONDON Eye, the 'duck' on the Thames and Madame Toussards.
Last year we also went to Liverpool visiting the docks. We always go by train as it is part of the day out and means we can all relax and not have to worry about parking.

We are off to Southend to Adventure Island for the day. I could drive but it stresses me out - and the train makes it more enjoyable for us all!

vonniebab2 · 06/08/2016 08:15

We have a trip to London planned, travel by train a visit to the Tower of London and the London Eye

lizd31 · 06/08/2016 08:27

Later this month I have a Thorpe Park trip planned & then next month a trip to London

strawberrisc · 06/08/2016 08:28

For the first time it's hard to plan days out as DD has now started high school and she has her own plans! However, we will be making our annual trip from West Kirby beach walking to Hilbre Island. We've never seen the seals but we have our fingers crossed this time!

Whoknowswhoknows · 06/08/2016 08:34

We're going to Ipswich to see the pig trail (Pigs Gone Wild) that's on at the moment. Mine mostly read books or listen to music on headphones. The little one might bring a small rucksack with a few toys in - fiddly ones like Transformers. Plenty of food is also vital as they seem to become starving as soon as we step onto a train!

We booked London last year and have also done so again for this year with GWR. Train up to London with DC either on iPads with headphones or colouring in puzzle books. We usually spend 3 days exploring the city using the 2-1 deals plus kids go free to theatres on certain a dates and shows. It's fantastic. We've only experienced one glitch so far and that was a one hour delay leaving due to signal faults but the staff kept us informed and as it was hot, even came around with water.

We've also done decoy park off Newton abbot. Train up there, then a 10 minute walk to a lovely park which the children run wild in. It was very reasonable on the day singles as well.

We have lots of beach trips planned (weather dependant) and bike rides as that's my son's favourite thing to do.

AnimalAddict · 06/08/2016 09:02

Hoping to go to Belfast Zoo before the Summer ends and if the weather picks up more days at the beach :)

rutsan · 06/08/2016 09:04

Were going on holiday to Haven in new quay, and whilst theere we will be going on a dolphin spotting boat trip.

Chelsea26 · 06/08/2016 09:11

We always got to Brighton on the train as parking is a nightmare - always have a train picnic and play silly games like I spy and what's in my suitcase etc

jenniwren12 · 06/08/2016 09:22

we've been collecting vouchers, so we have buy get one free tickets for sea life centre and legoland. We're also hoping to get to the seaside a few times too.

prwilson · 06/08/2016 09:36

We're going to explore the Lincolnshire Wolds next weekend.

sammylea80 · 06/08/2016 09:43

It's the firework championships at Belvoir castle this weekend, so the family will be enjoying a picnic on the hill while watching the displays.

TAtfield · 06/08/2016 09:44

We are having trips by train to Bath soon and other places with our kids

janeyf1 · 06/08/2016 09:48

We are planning to visit the Seven Sisters to have a family picnic and walk on the hills, and maybe attempt to fly a kite

bridge16 · 06/08/2016 09:49

We went to Drusillas Park on Friday with the kids aged 6 and 3. They absolutely loved it and had a ball! We paid for it on our clubcard vouchers which made it so much easier as were then able to treat them to an icecream which we dont always do. Really great day out and recommended!!!

KAKADU2001 · 06/08/2016 10:44

If travelling my public transport always have a plan B for your return in case of train or Bus cancellations. Also don't fall for the trap that you always get a better deal if you book well in advance.

sandy31 · 06/08/2016 11:03

We are off in a couple of weeks to Warner Leisure Nidd Hall as it is my Mothers special birthday. A few family members will be helping her celebrate in style with some bubbly to help us along. Then when we come back we will be going off to Spain with our Daughter, so quite a lot to look forward too.

scrapaddict · 06/08/2016 11:03

We go on the train to visit their auntie and playing games like Hangman or noughts and crosses give us interaction and a good laugh

ddraig123 · 06/08/2016 11:15

Free/cheap parking near stations for train users would help as would cheaper fares! Try taking a pack of cards, it might get them off their phones and ipads for a while!
