As part of the Mumsnet Family Friendly Programme we'd love to know what you think makes a family friendly pub and to name any pubs in your local area which you believe have a great family friendly environment.

Here's what Carrie Longton, co-founder of Mumsnet says "we all know you can have a great family time in your local - but also that it can often be disappointing. We'd love to know what's good and not so good in your local pub - or even about one you discovered on holiday!"

So how do you think pubs could be more family friendly? Should they include a nutritious family friendly menu? Maybe there should be adequate baby changing facilities in the bathrooms? Perhaps slot machines should be replaced with a toy chest for younger children? How about older children - how would you like to see them catered for in pubs? What about customer service - how important is this? Would well-insulated outdoor areas do it for you? What do you NOT want to see?

We'd also love to hear what local pubs you think have a really good family friendly environment. Please state their name, and location (town or village) where they're situated.

Add your views (and pubs!) and you'll be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £100 Amazon voucher!

Good food for adults and half size portions of the adult menu for kids

A play area would be good too, it's normally a play area and rubbish food or good food and nothing to keep the kids entertained

A play area for kids

Sedge82 · 04/05/2016 14:40

Clean highchairs and baby changing facilities are a must, but my standards recently increased massively when I found a pub that had a separate family dining room that included a soft play area and some toys and colouring facilities! Hubby and I managed 3 courses with no need to rush and it was such a treat! I'm sure it also suited people without children to have a dining room for over 12s only!

A basket meal and a pool table

Ikea1234 · 04/05/2016 15:10

Better food choices than just ' n chips', outdoor area that is child friendly, but also suitable for just sitting and chatting to your older children, high chairs, maybe some activity packs, and nice toilets with baby changing and toddler steps and seats. Not asking too much I think!

High chairs, Good Kids Menu, Outdoor Play Area, Activity Sheets with pencils etc.
Best of all a warm friendly atmosphere with helpful and friendly staff

foxessocks · 04/05/2016 15:13

Family friendly would be having a good children's menu, high chairs and baby change facilities (that aren't only in the female toilets!) Also agree about a little colouring sheet and Crayons. And in the nicer weather a little climbing frame in the garden is excellent if there is room!

Wendywhyte · 04/05/2016 15:34

a genuine love of family, that above all else, everything else is doable.

stefalfie11 · 04/05/2016 15:35

IMO a lot of it is based on attitude of the staff. They can make or break the experience upon going to a pub e.g. if they are dismissive of children or tut when you ask for a childrens seat. Other things that make a difference are baby changing facilities, childs menus, childrens activities e.g. colouring.

TraceyWoo · 04/05/2016 15:36

A pub where all members of your family can sit down and relax.

jodiecrossley1 · 04/05/2016 15:53

a place which is breastfeeding friendly, indoor and outdoor activities for children and a nice cosy place

rhinosuze · 04/05/2016 15:59

Somewhere friendly that isn't a pub where drunks hang out! Play areas, a chilled atmosphere, staff who.like children and decent food make it family friendly.

Pmliu · 04/05/2016 16:01

a decent spacious baby changing & feeding room would be lovely, comfy seating area for the parents in front of a play area for the children, maybe soft play, toys and slides maybe and also friendly pub staff.

fazkin · 04/05/2016 16:27

Clean and spacious with plenty of high chairs and changing facilities. Friendly staff who don't bat an eyelid when kids throw tantrum!

Gcalgske · 04/05/2016 16:34

Space for play is good but not a must.
A relaxed feel where kids are welcomed.
An understanding server who will bring out the kids food quickly (tend to find this always happens when the waiter/waitress is a parent themselves)
High chairs and acessible toilets.
Doesn't need a kids menu but a kids price for small portions.
Kids cutlery and plastic tumblers. I've lost count of the number of times dd (3) has been presented with knives and forks roughly half her body length. Even steak knives once (nothing quite so scary as a 3yo with a blade, cue hubby and I leaping across the table to wrestle the shiny knife away from her)
Colouring in is always a winner!

wjanice121 · 04/05/2016 16:41

A combination of things from a childrens menu, pencils and coloring books, to having lower sinks in the restroom for the children.

Simey68 · 04/05/2016 16:50

A good atmosphere for families where you feel comfortable, good choice of food and even outside play areas for children

Narnianescape · 04/05/2016 17:29

A pub that has good selection of kids food and some activities for them at the table

Bsummers · 04/05/2016 17:45

A friendly atmosphere, activities area for kids. A wide variety of food (including vegetarian options) and kids food options with details on nutrition. A lot of big chain pubs already do this which is great, you can choose the best option for your family. Pubs are adapting and becoming a place where the whole family can enjoy themselves. A lot of people I know will go to the pub for a meal instead of restaurants as Pub food is getting better (no more microwaved food!) then it used to and it's cheaper too.

I think good welcoming staff is a plus too, oh and good lighting and heating, so it's comfortable for the whole family.

katienana · 04/05/2016 17:48

There are a few pubs near us with a family dining area. The tables face a large play area with various toys in it, playhouse, that sort of thing. Great for toddlers as adults can watch them and waiting for the food is less stressful.
I don't mind if the menu is a bit junky tbh as we're not eating at a pub every day.
Kids cutlery would be great though.

Elliecherry · 04/05/2016 18:06

Books, crayons and paper are always good.

Space between tables for pushchairs and food for children that Isnt breaded.

Beakers for younger children that order drinks with their food if wanted.

Crown · 04/05/2016 18:08

An adult and child menu, an activity area and above all a pleasant atmosphere.

bunny7B · 04/05/2016 18:16

freindly staff, good food, and a play area

Funkyferret · 04/05/2016 18:16

Really good food options - less nuggets and more mini versions of the adult menu with perhaps a finger food "platter" option of something like mini breadsticks, veg sticks, some cubes of cheese and apple slices. A baby changing area that doesn't need to be enormous but is really clean and can be used by both parents. Some activities beyond the ubiquitous colouring in - nothing expensive, I'm thinking simple jigsaws or spot the difference type puzzles.

Heidipiedy · 04/05/2016 18:30

I think somewhere that has room for buggies if the children are young, child portions or willing to reduce amount and if they dont. Somewhere the kids can playis also good!
