With Easter falling early this year, we're already planning ahead, and Cadbury are looking to hear Mumsnetters’ experiences of Easter egg hunts.

What do you think makes a great Easter egg hunt? Does your family have any traditions - perhaps you base the event on memories from your own childhood Easters? Do you (or the Easter bunny) put together a treasure map or cryptic clues to help find the hidden eggs - and to make the hunt last more than five minutes! Will there be a star prize - or specific eggs to find, so everyone gets a fair share? How do you add to the eggsitement Grin - and more importantly, how can you prevent any arguments or jealousy between the children?!

Whether you’re a fan of traditions or planning an all day eggstravaganza (sorry!), share your egg hunt tips - and your family's favourite Easter experiences - and you will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £200 Love2Shop voucher.

Please note your comments may be included on Cadbury's pages on MN, their social media channels, and possibly elsewhere, so please only post if you're comfortable with this.

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

With rainy weather the last few Easters we've had to resort to creatively hiding eggs inside. We've had to think up inventive places to hide them - under Jemima Puddleducks feet, inside the train station, inside the till etc. Each child is given the colour of eggs they need to find.

A large space with plenty of hiding places both high and low

cut strips of paper and write clues on them, put the clues In a bowl and mix them up,pair up who's taking part so they can work it out together, have a race to see who finds all there eggs first

Our local church organises a great Easter Egg hunt on Easter Sunday. Little eggs hidden inside plastics eggs and hidden round the grounds of the church. Kids young and old enjoy it. They make sure all the kids get a fair share too.

A mixture of big Easter eggs and little ones to stop any arguments - the bigger eggs are divided one each (regardless of who finds them) but for the little eggs it's finders keepers! No signs or anything involved, just eggs dotted around the garden. Then church then BBQ with the family afterwards Smile

My advice for any easter egg hunt is to properly count out your eggs and count them back in again, particularly if you don't want to find your baby chewing on a snail slimed easter egg that was too well hidden in the strawberry patch round about July time!!!!!

Has anyone added the tip "make sure there's an extra mummy chocolate stash" yet? Wink

BathshebaDarkstone · 21/02/2016 08:16

Lots of people! Grin

We hide eggs in the garden and the children search ... They spilt the profits at the end... All working together and then sharing!

They are 8, 6 & 4 and DS6 is disabled and only eats Freddo Frogs so they know they will get all his eggs in return for the frogs!

liamell · 21/02/2016 09:15

Definitely a star prize...Nanny organises our easter egg hunt and does it wonderfully :)

My boys have been spoilt with egg hunts over the years by various family members. My Mum did the best one where she hid their baskets on top of the flat glass roof of their lobby. Once they finally found them- they had no idea how to get them!!
I did a skylander hunt last year. I managed to get a mega bargain bundle second hand. They would have cost a fortune new and sure they appreciate them more than chocolate!

mwatmough · 21/02/2016 12:17

We get lots of family and friends together makes it a lot more fun

serendipity1980 · 21/02/2016 12:26

we have an egg hunt with out DC and their cousins most years. We hide chocolate eggs in the garden, pretend for DC benefit that the easter bunny has been busy, and then they go around collecting them. At the end though we put all the chocolate in one pile and divide evenly to avoid fighting!!

iminshock · 21/02/2016 12:31

Proper Cadbury's Dairy milk in the creme eggs.

But that's a distant memory.

Shame on you , Cadbury

theredjellybean · 21/02/2016 12:54

clues...and proper chocolate not cheap nasty ones

Liquorice13 · 21/02/2016 13:50

We do one around the house for our daughter but also attend the local ones especially The National Trust organised one.

ThomasRichard · 21/02/2016 14:22

We've done a Cadbury's Easter egg hunt at a different National Trust place every year. The DC love it and I like seeing new places.

The best one I've organised myself was a Crystal Maze-inspired activity with a group of teenagers. They were divided into two teams and had to do all sorts of challenges to earn a head start over the other team for the big egg hunt at the end. Eggs were hidden all over the building and grounds for them to find and they absolutely loved it.

ju2003connor · 21/02/2016 14:49

love Easter Egg hunts, to make it fair, before they start they agree to equally share the eggs they find in order to receive an extra reward at the end! Great way to encourage team work and has saved a lot of tears from one having more than another! love the small foil covered eggs for this!

RuthMarianna · 21/02/2016 15:10

Organise the children making Easter bonnets and decorate bags to collect the eggs in before setting out on the hunt.

Clairescottshug · 21/02/2016 16:11

Doing a treasure map and getting dressed up makes it lots of fun, watching dressed up bunnies looking around the allotment and house is a sight for sore eyes

SymphonyofShadows · 21/02/2016 16:39

Eggs that are not made by Cadburys. They have ruined the brand.

Nix143 · 21/02/2016 17:05

Make sure there are lots and lots of eggs - kids are more about the volume than anything else. Each discovery is a victory!

melvis · 21/02/2016 18:04

I love a good Easter hunt! We use a mixture of decorated and chocolate eggs, as well as some other Easter treats such as soft toys. We write clues to direct to the different treasure sites. I always wish I could go to the Vicar of Dibley Easter Bunny extremes - but I haven't actually bought a costume yet ;D

k8vincent · 21/02/2016 19:20

Clues, decent ones that involve actually working something out. Some way of ensuring that the biggest kids don't get all the eggs and the little ones are left with nothing (collecting tokens at each clue to trade in for a final egg has worked well in the past).
