With Easter falling early this year, we're already planning ahead, and Cadbury are looking to hear Mumsnetters’ experiences of Easter egg hunts.

What do you think makes a great Easter egg hunt? Does your family have any traditions - perhaps you base the event on memories from your own childhood Easters? Do you (or the Easter bunny) put together a treasure map or cryptic clues to help find the hidden eggs - and to make the hunt last more than five minutes! Will there be a star prize - or specific eggs to find, so everyone gets a fair share? How do you add to the eggsitement Grin - and more importantly, how can you prevent any arguments or jealousy between the children?!

Whether you’re a fan of traditions or planning an all day eggstravaganza (sorry!), share your egg hunt tips - and your family's favourite Easter experiences - and you will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £200 Love2Shop voucher.

Please note your comments may be included on Cadbury's pages on MN, their social media channels, and possibly elsewhere, so please only post if you're comfortable with this.

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

We do an indoor hunt using rhyming clues to find each egg. They love trying to figure it out. I'm going to pinch the idea of the plastic eggs and little chicks for this years hunt!!

Lots of wrapped eggs (caramel, cream egg etc) hidden in the house. Remember to count them before hiding so you can check the little ones found them all!

Usually do a traditional egg hunt but the kids are teens now and don't want that!!

So I still do it for my nieces.

When we do our egg hunt every year we always leave little clues for them to guess(all age appropriate) and we also leave little arrow sign posts for the younger kids who are too young for clues and by the end of the egg hunt whoever gets the most eggs gets and extra toy(like a teddy bunny or something) all the kids love the taking part. We also get the kids to decorate their own basket ect for the egg hunt which they love to do also

When they are small just hide them in relatively easy places to find but as they get bigger have a treasure hunt with clues with a little egg at every place they find after solving it and a big one at the end.

Our tradition is to do as many National Trust egg hunts as possible (they're sponsored by Cadbury's too). We love solving the clues as a family, getting out in the fresh air and exploring the properties.

lots of little eggs - some chocolate, some fake - everyone is encouraged to put everything into a mega-basket for sharing out. The fun is in the hunting not the hoarding - that is what I say! last year I did cryptic clues but it didn't work that well - so I think just hide them - and keep a rough count, so you can be fairly sure you got them all.

For small children eggs hidden in easy places are the key - if possible using different coloured eggs it's easy to wrap them in different coloured paper if they aren't different colours) so child A is looking for blue, Child B is looking for red. etc. to make sure everyone gets the same number and avoid problems at the end!

For older children a Treasure hunt works really well - again, depending on the children involved it can either be everyone working on the same clues. children working in pairs or each child is given separate clues.

We usually do our Easter Egg Hunt in the house - DC are still quite little so it's easier, plus it's usually too cold / wet outside!
We hide the eggs in various places such as under their bed, in the toy box, in the wardrobe etc.
We then do a very simple treasure map and send them on their way!
Everyone loves it! Smile

Our church does a hunt, the adult organisers are very good at walking around and hiding more eggs so all the children will find some. As soon as the older children work out who is leaving the eggs and start following him/her, they swap and another adult takes over for a bit. Its good fun.

At home, I find hiding different coloured eggs for each child means that they all get the same amount, also means I can hide the older dcs eggs in harder to find places :)

We never used to do Easter eggs hunts as children -we did boil eggs and decorate them and roll them down a large hill though!
Since DS was 2 (now 12) we have had an easter egg hunt in out garden -its a bit of a tradition now and all 3 kids love it. We all have to wear bunny ears whilst doing it or no chocolate! We have the coloured plastic eggs-each child has their own colour so they know which ones to find (and that way thing inside the eggs are fairly shared out). We put mini chocolate eggs, and those little fluffy chicks in the eggs and other easter novelties.
A couple of years ago I got some fab little signs in Home Bargains for the easter egg hunt -with 'this way' 'that way' etc on them.

We do sometimes do the cadbury's National trust treasure hunts too as we are lucky to have a few castles around where we live.

I just hide some little wrapped eggs around the garden and give DC small containers to keep their finds in. Some great ideas on this thread though so I will try and up my game for this year!

Not to have soley chocolate things to find. We get given too much chocolate for the children as it is, and so I will be looking for some alternative things to hide for them!

We start our treasure hunt off with boiled eggs for breakfast. I write the first clue on the shell. They have to find the egg and with the egg is the next clue. I only hide the little Creme Egg sized ones as these are better at being disguised. They get taped to the under sides of tables, put in washing machine drawers, hidden up sleeves of coats. It is great fun coming up with ideas. The last treasure hunt egg gives them a clue which leads them to their larger eggs.

Wow! we never do anything so imaginative - just a few chocolate eggs hidden in the garden, they get loads of chocolate and we let them have it all in one go - we have a mad hour afterwards with all the sugar but then it's over and DH and I enjoy the leftovers.

DD still remembers when the Easter Bunny left plastic eggs with hair clips in (when she was 2!). This Easter will be our first in our new house which has a lovely garden. I've bought new plastic eggs and metal buckets (Poundland) and a few packets of mini eggs which I have hidden so I don't eat them

I love that Cadbury and National Trust join together for Egg Hunts. Planning on taking the kids to a NT property we haven't been to for a while.

What makes a great Easter egg hunt is capturing the faces of all our children at the start of the egg hunt .... And then again at the end of the egg hunt with their beautiful smiley chocolatey faces and buckets full of yummy brightly wrapped chocolate . We started capturing these moment as soon as our children were old enough to walk, and the oldest is 10 now .

Last year I got the teens to hide the eggs for the little ones. They were much more creative than me. I found the one in my wellies several days later!

We also decorate hard boiled eggs and race them down a hill.

My children are both still very young so we keep it really easy. We have lots of plastic hollow eggs that we fill with various things and then hide, some have chocolate some have raisins etc. we will usually get together with friends at the park and hide them all around the climbing frames etc. as we don't put much in me keep hiding them over and over, hours of fun!

One that can be quickly adapted to take place indoors if necessary due to inclement weather!

Put the dog in a separate place prior to and during the hunt. If not there will be no eggs and there will be dog poo accentuated by sparkly tin foil throughout the garden for days.

We hide eggs all around the garden... all of the youngest eggs have a 'K' on, the eldest has the letters to his name (luckily only has 5 letters!) and has to find them all. if its absolutely throwing it down with rain we do it indoors. We always try and get to a local attraction that does a egg hunt on a larger scale... last year we went to the local farm =)

I never had Easter egg hunts as a child so I have been keen to have them as a tradition. We always have dd's friend over every year and we have a hunt that takes place all over the house. We try to find lots of different hiding places. Hang them in things from ceiling to hiding in dolls houses. As they are getting older the clues get harder. They wear their bunny ears and have a basket each and then divide the eggs at the end to make it fair. We Lao hide little chicks as well. Love Easter!

We do a little treasure hunt with clues. We put cadburys mini eggs along the way for the Dcs o pick up and then at the end of the treasure hunt is large cadburys Easter egg for each of them. My mum used to do amazing treasure hunt Easter egg trails for us when we were younger. Great fun to do and follow and a great excuse treat delicious chocolate!
