With Easter falling early this year, we're already planning ahead, and Cadbury are looking to hear Mumsnetters’ experiences of Easter egg hunts.

What do you think makes a great Easter egg hunt? Does your family have any traditions - perhaps you base the event on memories from your own childhood Easters? Do you (or the Easter bunny) put together a treasure map or cryptic clues to help find the hidden eggs - and to make the hunt last more than five minutes! Will there be a star prize - or specific eggs to find, so everyone gets a fair share? How do you add to the eggsitement Grin - and more importantly, how can you prevent any arguments or jealousy between the children?!

Whether you’re a fan of traditions or planning an all day eggstravaganza (sorry!), share your egg hunt tips - and your family's favourite Easter experiences - and you will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £200 Love2Shop voucher.

Please note your comments may be included on Cadbury's pages on MN, their social media channels, and possibly elsewhere, so please only post if you're comfortable with this.

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

Good dry weather and a back garden to hide the eggs varying in size. A good tip to make it amusing is to have shallow baskets for the eggs as they fall out a lot which is very funny as they go around hunting!

clues, leading to clues, leading to clues, that aren't too taxing, but use what the kids are learning in school to best effect.

We are lucky & have a children's farm near us, that organize a fantastic egg hunt. Coupled with feeding the lambs, holding the chicks & all the other activities, it is a fantastic day that we all look forward to.

finleypop · 19/02/2016 01:24

We have 2 was baskets. One is for wash ASAP, this includes school uniform & P.E. kit. A second basket is for no rush washing. This way we are not caught out when those important items are still languishing in the bottom of the basket after you have run out of time

AnimalAddict · 19/02/2016 05:58

Not just having chocolate, but lots of other little surprises hidden :)

sweir1 · 19/02/2016 06:50

I think it is making it last more than 10 minutes!

Plenty of eggs

PrincessAisha2015 · 19/02/2016 07:26

I would get a variety of eggs and hide them around the house- also maybe make a easter egg hunt trail and leave little clues as to where they might find them. I used to make it fun for my nephew its good fun for them also.they enjoy it when they find the eggs! VICTORY! :-)

The children hunt for small eggs in the big garden, with their little baskets. (I like the idea of shallow baskets so that the eggs fall out!) Somebody goes around to replenish eggs while the children's backs are turned. (The big eggs are not brought out yet.)

When it comes to the big eggs, everyone has one each, and we have a special game for each person to find their egg. Everyone sits down to watch the game (they're allowed to start eating their small eggs at this point). Each player (youngest to oldest) then has to find their big egg. One at a time, the younger children are given a clue, either written or with a picture, so they can toddle off and find their egg, with some help if necessary.

For each older player's turn, their egg is placed somewhere on the lawn, but they can't see where it is because they are blindfolded. They have to find it while everyone else shouts "hot" and "cold". When they have found it, they are invited to guess what kind of egg it is before they see it. The adults play this game as well, with the added twist that one of the children is allowed to sneak on to the lawn to try to move the egg about!

Like with any other event it's all about being incredibly excited around the children and letting them feel that excitement. They will remember it forever.

hutchy73 · 19/02/2016 08:43

Lots of different size eggs and this year is the first year he can read so will do rhyming clues . Finish off with a cuddly bunny

lizd31 · 19/02/2016 08:43

I live in a woodland area so all my friends love to bring their kids round for an easter egg hunt as there are so many places to hide them both in my garden & the woods

MiddleClassProblem · 19/02/2016 10:32

We have done a cryptic clue one for the adults pre children. A clue for the another egg location with each one you find!

Will do similar when DD is old enough

AnnaGrant · 19/02/2016 12:08

Individually wrapped chocolates and sweeties. Hiding places at different levels throughout the garden for different sized children. Sunshine, if possible!

iut044 · 19/02/2016 12:34

Good clues and plenty of eggs for everyone to ensure plenty of fun.

DancingWithWillard · 19/02/2016 13:01

Sunny weather, proper chocolate eggs, not fake plastic or actual eggs, good clues appropriate to the ages of the children, and a few children to help each other with the clues, come up with ideas for searching and to up the excitement factor.

LucyBo17 · 19/02/2016 13:26

A treasure map and prizes along the way, with a non-chocolate prize at the end

Elizasmum02 · 19/02/2016 14:02

we get out whole street involved, there are only about 12 houses mind and not all have kids but we have an amaing time

Lisacraig1981 · 19/02/2016 14:18

We buy plastic coloured eggs and each child has a colour to find! That way one doesn't get them all! They will exchange the plastic onest for Cadburysale easter eggs

LuckyBluie · 19/02/2016 15:01

Great clues make a great Easter egg hunt. We're fortunate enough to have a gigantic garden so we always do ours around there, takes all afternoon! Smile

geezerbird44 · 19/02/2016 15:48

Start the Easter period off by getting the children to paint their own names on the eggs. It makes the hunt more difficult and last longer as they can only pick up their own eggs.

myusername12345 · 19/02/2016 16:02

Hard boil some eggs and get them to paint them for themselves, then they have to find their own egg

simone12345 · 19/02/2016 16:30

hide lots colours u get points according to the colour of the egg the most points wins a prize
