With Easter falling early this year, we're already planning ahead, and Cadbury are looking to hear Mumsnetters’ experiences of Easter egg hunts.

What do you think makes a great Easter egg hunt? Does your family have any traditions - perhaps you base the event on memories from your own childhood Easters? Do you (or the Easter bunny) put together a treasure map or cryptic clues to help find the hidden eggs - and to make the hunt last more than five minutes! Will there be a star prize - or specific eggs to find, so everyone gets a fair share? How do you add to the eggsitement Grin - and more importantly, how can you prevent any arguments or jealousy between the children?!

Whether you’re a fan of traditions or planning an all day eggstravaganza (sorry!), share your egg hunt tips - and your family's favourite Easter experiences - and you will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £200 Love2Shop voucher.

Please note your comments may be included on Cadbury's pages on MN, their social media channels, and possibly elsewhere, so please only post if you're comfortable with this.

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

We make it quiet competitive. Planting coloured eggs around the home and in the communal garden. Find a red egg - 2 points, a yellow egg - 1 point etc. Whoever collects the most points chooses their prize from a selection of Easter eggs, then the runner up chooses, and so on.

we usually take my grand daughter to a national trust easter egg hunt, this is great fun and she loves it

pennwood · 18/02/2016 19:12

Let the smallest children go first and always keep some spare chocolate for any who do not manage to find one. It often helps if the little ones get a bit of assistance, and it is all made fun and not too competitive.

glenka · 18/02/2016 19:13

Get as many kids friends to join in it will be more fun

mumpetuk1 · 18/02/2016 19:14

We always have a scavenger Easter egg hunt in the garden. We give the younger ones a head start. Its always great fun.

Cailin7 · 18/02/2016 19:22

We do it outdoors in the garden with a couple of really gooood treats labelled with each hunters name and lots of little chocolate egg treats, love cadburys creme eggs. We also let the little ones loose first with their baskets otherwise the big yins would grab all the chocolate. And no adults are allowed to hunt, they are worse than the children! And also we hide the eggs just before the hunt, otherwise our dog and next doors cats would be the victors!

A sunny day!

oliveoyl72 · 18/02/2016 19:32

2 things.

Plenty of eggs to find, including smaller ones so it doesn't cost a fortune.

Each child gets the same number of eggs to find, and their own area to search for them to prevent squabbles.

Kangakate · 18/02/2016 19:43

Having all the family involved, a picnic and obviously eggs hidden well and easy to find. To make sure there's not to much chocolate we also hide decorated chicken eggs that the kids paint beforehand

cozza777 · 18/02/2016 19:46

We always do a Easter egg hunt the kids and my hubby love it,we buy small eggs and have picture clues leading them to different hiding places in the house/garden (weather permitting) and the kids run around popping them in there basket then the last one is the biggie chocolate egg 😀

Pinktilgate · 18/02/2016 19:50

We try to make it as much fun as possible by leaving lots of clues and 'fake' eggs.....it's all in the excitement!

HollybearFluffpuss · 18/02/2016 19:51

We do a map each, one for upstairs and one for downstairs. There might be a picture of a bed and an X marks the spot next to it. We have little clue cards e.g 'Im a very sleepy little egg and I love a comfy place to rest my head'. This provides a clue where the egg is hidden. My girls love to help one another and work well as a team. There will be an equal amount of eggs hidden which saves arguments.

littleme96 · 18/02/2016 20:00

We hide little foil wrapped eggs all around the house and garden for them to find. If they are struggling, we tell them how many are left in that room/area, but no clues apart from that.

In addition to the chocolate, we also hide those little fluffy chick decorations. They each have to find a set amount and then those are exchanged for a prize each - usually a book or small toy.

windowmouse · 18/02/2016 20:07

a variety of eggs and prizes and all well hidden in a trail

spongebob1 · 18/02/2016 20:09

A sunny day, a picnic. Painting hard boiled eggs. Finding pretty coloured chocolate eggs hidden in the garden and popping them into little straw baskets decorated with ribbons.

cookie09 · 18/02/2016 20:12

I Give the children a piece of paper with a bunch of riddles leading to their eggs on it. An example is: I get your clothes from wet to dry, tumble, tumble what am I? The answer would be the dryer. The children would go to the dryer and find their eggs. I Leave one 1 egg per child at the location for the answer of the riddle. At the end i do a basket full of treats, they love it!

freefan · 18/02/2016 20:23

We always ensure that there are more eggs than people and each egg has a coloured sticker on it and the colours found get marked on a wee card until a rainbow can be made for the real chocolate egg at the end :) that way everyone gets chocolate

KIRANKAUR1985 · 18/02/2016 20:27

We buy toy eggs for the hunt, can normally get a nice big pack from pound shops and then have the chocolate ones as the Grand prize at the end, we don't have lots of kids running around just yet so is ok as they are all similar ages, so works quite nicely. We put eggs in a kind of trail, they are a little young for cryptic clues, but will definitely do clues I think. It's fun and they enjoy it.

catz747 · 18/02/2016 20:31

Good treasure hunt clues and a mixture of chocolate and non chocolate prizes to hide around the house. Kids had a brilliant time last year so hopefully we can make this year good too!

alsproject · 18/02/2016 20:37

Make it into a choose your own adventure style story

daisypickles · 18/02/2016 20:38

Every year we have an Easter Egg hunt at my sister's house for all the kids. They have a big sloping garden and lots of places to hide the treats. We each guide (secretly) a child to find their 'big' treat and make sure even the youngest gets their fair share of eggs. It's a joy to see their wee faces when they find the chocolate goodies :)

allsorts4444 · 18/02/2016 20:44

A great location such as a forest and lots of colourful chocolate eggs

dandanrawlings · 18/02/2016 20:45

Treasure hunt with points, make it a game and the one with the most points gets a bigger prize

hannonle · 18/02/2016 20:57

I've never done one, but I think that lots of tiny eggs would make it more fun. Those small foil-wrapped cadbury ones come to mind. Oh, and nice weather of course!

Mozarmstrong · 18/02/2016 21:01

Bag of little chocolate mini eggs. Play a game whoever wins choose one egg. The overall winner gets the big Easter egg. Everyone has fun and you can cheat so all happy bunnies .
