With Easter falling early this year, we're already planning ahead, and Cadbury are looking to hear Mumsnetters’ experiences of Easter egg hunts.

What do you think makes a great Easter egg hunt? Does your family have any traditions - perhaps you base the event on memories from your own childhood Easters? Do you (or the Easter bunny) put together a treasure map or cryptic clues to help find the hidden eggs - and to make the hunt last more than five minutes! Will there be a star prize - or specific eggs to find, so everyone gets a fair share? How do you add to the eggsitement Grin - and more importantly, how can you prevent any arguments or jealousy between the children?!

Whether you’re a fan of traditions or planning an all day eggstravaganza (sorry!), share your egg hunt tips - and your family's favourite Easter experiences - and you will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £200 Love2Shop voucher.

Please note your comments may be included on Cadbury's pages on MN, their social media channels, and possibly elsewhere, so please only post if you're comfortable with this.

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

Lots of Chocolate :-)

Everyone having a different colour egg to find prevents the bigger faster kids from grabbing them all. I like to have easier clues for the younger ones and harder for the older so it takes everyone a similar length of time too.

tabbaz123 · 28/02/2016 15:52

I think a family effort is what really makes it - We get the older children amongst us to join in too and everyone has such a great time! We are arranging one in a big RSPB walk this year so will be great!

Mazza3031 · 28/02/2016 16:54

This is something we do every year with the children. It started with my nan who would do them for me, she had a massive garden that took a while to do, but she would make some harder to find then others. Now I carried on the experience with my children. Even when my nan became very ill and she ended up in a hospis, I took the easter egg hunt to her, she was so pleased to see the children do it.Smile to help them out a little we would allways use the hot and cold game.

The youngest always goes first, she sometimes goes egg-blind in all the excitement! The whole thing is over in five minutes but it's the memory of that lasts.

toodles60 · 28/02/2016 18:54

We always stick home made bunny ears on all the eggs we hide. The little ones love it and call them rabbit eggs. Anything like that to add a twist they'll love. Mix in hard boiled eggs with brightly painted shells that are highly visible to keep the fun going. Egg rolling competitions and egg and spoon races using those eggs make it a really fun day.

Make sure the kids really have to use their brains to follow the clues. Never make it too obvious because the reward is something they desperately want meaning they will never give up. My mother used to set booby traps and throw us off the scent completely! Sometimes it took forever but it was well worth it.

Burgermanuk · 28/02/2016 19:17

always ensure you have more than enough eggs s you get some too

scrapaddict · 28/02/2016 19:18

Clues that make the children think and are not too obvious. New hiding places each year and sometimes try and put the eggs above their immediate eyeline so they really have to look about for them

mrshumphreyjr · 28/02/2016 19:22

Themed easter egg hunts work well, especially using a favourite family film for clues such as teenage mutant ninja turtles makes sure that they were really watching the film..!

ddraig123 · 28/02/2016 19:35

Let the dog join in by hiding dog treats around the garden for him to find. Start him off by letting him follow you around the garden to where he finds the first few and he will soon get the idea and search for more on his own. In fact he will probably carry on searching and sniffing around for more long after he has found the last treat!

pomander123 · 28/02/2016 19:39

We hide small cadbury creme eggs with clues on in the garden and inside the house to find a bigger egg with a name on for each child so everyone's a winner, including mum and dad of course!

jenhegarty · 28/02/2016 19:52

Lots of small chocolate eggs hidden (but not too well) and then one bugger egg that the older ones need to follow clues to find.

lindseystuart85 · 28/02/2016 19:53

We love Easter Egg hunts and trails it is so much fun!
My husband and little ones stay indoors whilst I go out in the garden and hide the eggs! (we have the curtains closed so there is no peeking!)
If it is sunny please please please be sure to hide the eggs some where in the shade! Last year we had a few melted eggs in the garden LOL!!!
Take notes of where you put the eggs so that you don't loose track or eggs :)

cluckyhen · 28/02/2016 19:56

WE have always bought lots of the tiny smaller eggs and run our own Easter Egg hunt in the garden with clues - and for extra brownie points (and to find their big egg) we have a simply tick list that they have to complete with things such as find a bug, empty your bin etc

laurapotz · 28/02/2016 20:04

My mother in law does a lovely egg hunt in her garden for all the grandkids. The two youngest had a special corner to find theirs in and the others had the whole garden to hunt!

Ang29 · 28/02/2016 20:18

As we dont have a garden, we leave easter egg tracks around the flat, that we say the bunny lost as he was hopping about. We also hide some in certain areas around the flat so my kids still have something to search for. We get small chocolate eggs and put them in a bigger plastic egg in case we forget about any of them, so they dont melt all over the floor! X

rennie1811 · 28/02/2016 20:19

we do a treasure hunt style easter egg hunt with clues leading from one part of the house to another with little arrows and chocolate eggs for them to collect

blackistheneworange · 28/02/2016 20:26

Plenty of small eggs (the tiny ones in foil) so that everyone gets the chance to win something. We have had just as much fun in the house finding them as in the garden when the weather has been bad.

mata777 · 28/02/2016 20:29

My mother in law always does it in her garden for her grandchildren. The adults pretend they are looking too and they help the youngest child.

chicgeekdiary · 28/02/2016 20:43

All dressed up, lots of kids, lots of hiding places, lots of chocolate and lots of fun!

funkyfreks · 28/02/2016 21:19

Clues and tricks! not always finding a treat but finding a clue to the next hiding place, you don't have to spend a fortune a small box of heroes is good enough.

suzannedrummond · 28/02/2016 21:20

buy the plastic eggs and leave clues inside and little treats of mini eggs and
have painted egg competition and easter bonnet prises aswell,

clairew111 · 28/02/2016 21:48

An easter egg hunt is a must, even if it's only in the back garden.

omgitslani · 28/02/2016 21:55

we usually spend the morning before making easter baskets for out hunt. my children along with their cousins will do the hunt together. I hide medium sized eggs covered in coloured foil and each child is told to find one green, one blue, one gold and one pink egg each to keep it fair. If the weather is not good, we will do a small hunt indoors. The fun is in the hunt!
