As part of the Disney Healthy Living campaign, this week Disney are launching their new #HealthilyEverAfter week. They’d love to hear about what your top tips are for encouraging your family to embrace a healthy lifestyle.

Here’s what Disney says “We know parents can find it a challenge to ensure their children are eating well and being active - and when they are trying to get their whole family to develop good habits, we believe Disney can help make it fun and simple. The #HealthilyEverAfter campaign uses the power of our stories and characters to inspire these behaviours and encourage parents to share their tips with other families around the UK”

So, how do you encourage your family to embrace a healthier lifestyle? Maybe you’ve created some fun games to get your DCs to keep active? Or perhaps you try to make sure your children are getting a balanced diet and try new foods? Whatever you do to encourage your family to be healthy Disney would love to hear about it.

For more information on the Disney Healthily Ever After campaign and how can you use Disney as inspiration to encourage your family to be healthy, take a look at the video below:

Please note: Disney may well use your anonymous comments on their website, on social media as well as possibly elsewhere.

Everyone who adds a comment will be entered in to a prize draw where one winner will receive a £300 Disney Store voucher.

Thanks & good luck,
MNHQ

We play extremely energetic, very competitive and fairly complicated games of tag when we're out for a family walk, often playing our favourite characters from Disney films!

We love days out at country parks and even just walking around the city. We have a very varied diet due to different cultures from DH's side and mine so the dc have always been used to lots of interesting foods.

BeakyAndBun · 15/02/2016 20:04

Growing vegetables and enjoying local nature spots.

Turning play dates in to exercise opportunities
Learning to cook healthy meals - if they make the meals themselves, they like them better
Smoothie competitions - got a smoothie maker where they can make individual smoothies and see who makes the best

We grow a few fruits which my dd's love to pick, and we get outdoors loads, cycling, walking, playing at the park etc

mummylou1982 · 15/02/2016 22:19

Every day we take short walks and always wak the 1 mile to school. Then as much as possible we head up into the hills for long walks, through this we have found our youngest daughter can walk upto 20 miles in a day! We also promote healthy eating by providing 100% freshmade/home cooked food

del2929 · 15/02/2016 23:54

we do zumba as a family- so much fun while boogeying away

chumbler · 16/02/2016 10:47

We do baby led weaning so the whole family eats more healthily :)

If you don't have junk food in the house your family is less likely to eat junk food! Meal planning and having a constant supply of healthy snacks that don't require much prep is really helpful.

Learning or trying new stuff out as a family is a great way to keep active - can't wait to try Go Ape!

A bit of everything here goes. So making everything a race/competition, getting out to the park on those crisp mornings. Trying new activities. Dd is three next month and has started ballet recently, we've tried ice skating, we go out with her on the trike and we play tag on the park. Also have annual passes to an outdoor adventure park. So lots of running, playing, climbing and bouncing which all feel like great fun but are so good too.
In terms of food, we work on everything in moderation, so chocolate and sweets are allowed, but snacks between meal times are generally fruit or cheese. We have a small Tupperware tub in the fridge that is dd, she knows she can help herself from that when hungry. It contains apples, blueberries, strawberries and small babybell. It encourages snacks to be healthy.

I teach my children about vitamins and how they need to brush their teeth extra well if they eat cake and sweets. We give them fruit and veg which luckily they love. My dd1s fave veg is broccoli like me!

elvisthehamster · 16/02/2016 14:50

We walk to and from school everyday no matter what the weather -the children are pretty active and the girls do dancing a couple of times a week and my son plays football and has a lot of extra PE activities at school (secondary school).
As a family though we try and incorporate long walks along the beach or hill/forest walks into our family time as it is nice to all get out into the fresh air and get some walks/scooter/bike riding action in.
We still need to work more on the finding healthier meals that all five people will eat the children can sometime be fussy so I am trying to work on that. Some good tips on this thread. :)

The best thing is to make everything fun, healthy food is just food and can be a treat. We make fruit faces on a plate with lots of colour and different fruits. We cook and prepare vegetables in different ways, kebabs are always a hit or a healthy salsa

For exercise we try and make it a part of our everyday routine, we walk to preschool and sing songs along the way to pass the time. We also look for monsters or characters and turn it into a hunt. Scavenger hunts are always fun and keeps them moving.

Cambam2010 · 16/02/2016 15:28

we race. My DS 5 is very competitive. We race to get to the stairs first at bedtime, first to get to the tooth brush, first to choose a book. Our lives are spent racing each other - if I can't get him to do something then I just challenge him and it gives him a boost.

Snog · 16/02/2016 16:13

Getting kids involved in cooking has really helped my family to eat more healthily.
I pay my dd to cook an evening meal quite often and she has to plan it, shop for it and cook it.

MAT12 · 16/02/2016 18:54

We are an active family most of the year so we always do mini beast trail hunts when walking the dogs or out for a bike ride down the riverside country park. We all eat fairly healthy however our youngest daughter has severe sensory difficulties and can be sick at the sight or smell of food so its much harder to vary her food. we try a new food once a week as it is a massive thing for her.

Tedsmum2010 · 16/02/2016 20:19

Sit down and eat meals together. Not only is it healthier on the waist it's healthier for the mind too.

RosaDiazepam · 16/02/2016 22:01

We only have chocolate/sweets etc on the weekend Smile

manfalou · 16/02/2016 22:07

We go out scooting as a family (yes we have adult scooters! They are amazing!) Which gets us all active together and the kids think mummy and daddy are super cool!

CockwombleJeff · 16/02/2016 23:31

Trampolining in the back garden Tigger style !

Going for scenic walks through the woods like Snow White.

Embracing the cool air outside , singing our hearts out like Anna and Elsa

Keeping the family laughing together ( like the man who laughed himself silly to the ceiling in Mary Poppins)

Soothing ourselves with hugs from our favourite soft toys Winnie the Pooh and Dalmations.

Loving each other like Lady & The Tramp

Finding compassion in our hearts for others like Beauty in Beauty & The Beast

Finding compassion for ourselves & finding acceptance for our situations as they are - as in Inside Out.

These are all the things that keep are family happy and healthy.

BL0SS0M · 16/02/2016 23:40

always having a plate of fruit or veggies and dip when they get home from school

CockwombleJeff · 16/02/2016 23:45

Blossom how did you choose your user name ?

somethingfromnothing · 17/02/2016 00:52

We try to get outdoors as much as we can. I love walking and I know that's because my grandad took me on long walks from when I was a toddler. In the winter when the weather is awful we have dance parties in the living room to burn off energy!

kateandme · 17/02/2016 05:50

loving them. when they are happy in themselves. when they are made to feel loved and cared for, they want to be well ,they are more likely to run wild free and happy exercising. they want to go to the park not lock themselves away from the world.
we always try and go for walks or the national trust park areas.being a cuotryside loving family anyway helps. they love run up the hills and roll around.getting them outside is essential ive found to seeing them smile with genuine happiness. the red noses from the fresh air and the cold little ears:)
playing game like cricket and rounders as a family.
picnics are always loved.
going on our bikes.
being as a family.
help them love the outdoors, help them love to swim, run play outside and exercise.dont make it a time slotted something they have to do to keep well.they don't understand this all they see is being forced to do somethigand this automatically turns them off.

let them bake, have them help cook with us. ask them as you go along what veggies we should include. what colour peppers tonight.
don't give them a choice when eating the good for you meals. cook nice meals, balanced meals and just do it. no faf no serious forcing, its just something we do all of us they have what we have. but they are good meals.cooked meals.together.
if we have a take out its a treat a 'wicked' thing. treat them to a box of 'bad' cereal every now and then. have a delicious chocolate bar but then an apple at other time.
balance balance balance.
happiness
love
healthy
