In honour of Cadbury launching their biggest ever advent calendar, Cadbury would like to know what gets you and your family into the Christmas spirit in the countdown to Christmas.

Here's what they say "This year we’re launching Cadbury’s biggest ever advent calendar and setting out to bring even more joy to the countdown this Christmas. 24 trucks, 24 doors, opening daily in 24 different locations, we’reringing joyful festive surprises to the nation on the countdown to Christmas. While we’re counting down, we’re also keen to hear from Mumsnetters about what you and your families do in the countdown before Christmas"

Find out about the Cadbury advent calendar by watching the video below:

So, what traditions do you and your family have to get that Christmas feeling? Do you spend an evening putting up a Christmas tree? Maybe decorating Christmas cookies is your favourite family activity? Or perhaps you all gather around the TV to watch a particular Christmas movie?

Whatever your pre-Christmas traditions are, Cadbury would love to know.

Everyone who posts a comment will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky MNer will win a £200 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck,

We always make our own Christmas cake plus a couple of smaller ones that have become traditional gifts for relatives, spend an hour or two at the Christmas market and try to get out for some food and a couple of drinks one evening, "just the two of us" before the madness starts.

Put the Christmas Tree up on 1st December and play Christmas songs and films all day Christmas Eve.

cookie09 · 18/11/2015 19:54

Putting the tree up on the 27th of november as this was inititally my twin boys birthdate but they came 2 months early on the 27 september. This and watching the christmas lights switch on in town and buying xmas eve pressies for one another as it builds up the excitement for the big day.

Putting all the decorations up together as a family - usually the first weekend of December as we are all a bit excited about it by then!

lynsmagoo · 18/11/2015 20:26

we have loads of christmas traditions! The very first one we do is travel! we live away from our parents so normally a week before christmas (17th this year) we all jump in the car and travel from scotland to northern ireland. We start the journey by driving two hours to the boat in scotland, spend almost 3hrs on the boat across then another 2 hours driving to get to our parents house! we always listen to our traditional christmas CD in the car to get us in festive spirit and have a sing-a-long!

ItsaTenfromDen · 18/11/2015 20:37

From babies we always sang jingle bells on the way to bed and even though they are now in their twenties, we I still carry this on:)

daisyduck123 · 18/11/2015 20:39

mave · 18/11/2015 20:40

We have a full English breakfast on Christmas eve with my friend's 2 boys, see a panto and have tea out also. Bacon butties Christmas morning after presents!

MayLady64 · 18/11/2015 20:43

On Christmas Eve, my Mum (who's 84!) starts wearing a red tinsel head-dress that she's worn every Christmas for at least 25 years. As soon as we see that, Christmas officially starts for us!

alsproject · 18/11/2015 20:43

We put out the decorations up the first weekend of December so everyone can get involved

liz1970 · 18/11/2015 20:45

Buttons23 · 18/11/2015 20:45

In the first week of December, we take a day and do a festive breakfast. Then it's Christmas music and putting the decorations up.

We watch Christmas films, go to see carols, see Santa, fayres etc. I love Christmas so it is always jam-packed in December.

Christmas Eve its takeaway, bath and new pjs before a Christmas movie and treats

pennwood · 18/11/2015 20:49

Dapootz · 18/11/2015 21:06

We always have a mini present hunt on Xmas eve to get us excited for Xmas day. We only use small thing like chocolates off the tree, things from the pound shop! The little ones love it.

happysouls · 18/11/2015 21:26

These days we mostly get in the mood by endless discussions about the lovely meals we're going to make over Christmas! When my son was young it was more to do with watching Christmas cartoons and films, and making lots of messy glittery stuff and paper chains!

Maddaddam · 18/11/2015 21:28

We make a lot of things. Crafts, candles, sweets and biscuits, gingerbread house, decorations, etc. It can entertain everyone for weeks. Not quite sure how much family and friends appreciate all the results packaged up (in homemade boxes). But it's fun.

K1ttenp1e · 18/11/2015 21:36

We have the christmas eve box and will be having an elf this year (although only the doorway) We will be making and decorating the sweet tree and of course there will be a Christmas tree.

LeeR1985 · 18/11/2015 21:50

When the kids are awake, we all watch home alone together. Once they are asleep, the adults watch die hard :D

freefan · 18/11/2015 21:59

Go to all the Christmas concerts and carol services we can and the christmas craft markets are fantastic

buckley1983 · 18/11/2015 22:04

We love snuggling up to watch The Snowman every year.. now closely followed by The Snowman & The Snowdog :D I bought some paper chain packs in the sales earlier this yet so hoping to make paper chaining a tradition - nothing better than some hand-crafted decorations :) I love everything about Christmas & try to sneak in some Christmas books at bedtime throughout the year - I was reading Raymond Briggs' Father Christmas in July - haha! Since LO was born, I have ordered an NSPCC letter from Santa which I intend to do every year - love them, makes me cry every time!

Clairescottshug · 18/11/2015 22:04

My daughters school play starts us off, followed by a panto, the decorations and making our own mince pies

pinklady123456 · 18/11/2015 22:13

We always write santa a note on xmas eve and leave him baileys and mince pies. Christmas PJs come out the end of November for all!
