We’ve been asked by Pampers to find out about the biggest challenges Mumsnetters’ have faced when changing your DCs’ nappies.

Pampers say “Have you ever left somewhere because of a wet nappy incident or cancelled a trip over fears of changing facilities? If so, you’re certainly not alone. In fact, we recently asked 1000 mums about their nappy changing nightmares and a quarter told us they have been tempted to cancel a trip for fear of a lack of changing facilities, while 36% have admitted to heading for the exit due to wet nappy incident. Not only that but 71% said that finding somewhere to change baby when they were out and about was either quite or very stressful. At Pampers, we understand that all this stress and wet nappy drama means baby’s happiness, and therefore your own, is interrupted.

As a parent, you know that there’s truly nothing more rewarding than seeing your little one uninterruptedly playing and developing. But when disrupted by the irritation of wetness, or a lengthy nappy change, their experiences are disturbed. That’s where NEW Pampers Baby-Dry Pants come in. They are easy to change and provide up to 12 hours of dryness – no other pant is drier! Simply pull them on and then, when it’s time for a change, remove by tearing away at the sides. So now you can change your baby’s nappy whilst they’re standing, bringing an end to the wriggle-wrestles on the changing mat and making negotiating changing facilities much less of a chore! This means that you and baby can enjoy uninterrupted happiness playtime, night-time, anytime!”

So, what’s the biggest nappy changing challenge you’ve faced? What has been the most difficult changing time for you? If you could invent something to help with changing, what would it be?

Share your challenging changing stories on this thread – whether funny, stressful or downright nightmarish, Pampers would love to hear about it!

Trying to change a wriggling 18 month old when there was power cut and we were plunged into darkness. Trying to clean up a pooey toddler when you can't see anything is pretty vile...

Long Haul flight with my 14 month old with the runs. I didn't know I'd been using the first class toilet on a virgin flight, 2 air stewardess were spraying the toilet with air freshener, I was soooo mortified! To boot, I forgot a spare set of clothes, I had to wrap him in a flight blanket to get off the plane.

Changing a wriggly toddler's nappy on the rather grubby floor of the disabled toilet at my (otherwise) favourite coffee shop in Liverpool. Thankfully they have now installed a baby changing unit.

having a baby changing facility in a different place to the loos where you're expecting to find it

Trying to change a nappy in the boot of a car, having had to pull to the side of the raod in the longest traffic jam ever !!

castleton · 15/11/2015 16:21

My worst was the first time I changed my son. I didn't realize that little boys could wee over your shoulder.

frizziekizzie · 15/11/2015 16:23

Turning your back for 0.3 seconds and discovering she is now wearing her pooey nappy as a hat...I learnt a lot of hard lessons about nappies as an au pair. Hopefully when I have my own children, nothing will surprise me!

purpleluvbug · 15/11/2015 16:24

My biggest challenge was with my eldest son. He had done a poo. So I was doing the usual tricks whilst changing him. But my daughter distracted me. So I pulled his nappy from under his bum... still talking. Only to turn back round and realise, I had thrown the poo from his nappy up and it had landed on his hand like an ice cream!!! My challenge was to A) get it off his hand before he ate it.. and B) not let my pelvic floor let my down whilst I killed myself laughing!!!

My baby was a bit poorly one day. I couldn't put I was changing what was only a wet nappy and so calmly removed the nappy and turned my head to get another one. The baby opened its legs and literally sprayed me with poop. I mean it went everywhere and sprayed like water. My hair, face, clothes. Absolutely covered.

brookson · 15/11/2015 20:03

I remember going round a friends house and my son had a big poop that went all over his clothes etc. I did have a change of clothes but had run out of nappies so my friend lent me a hand towel, how did people survive without pampers.

embabes7 · 15/11/2015 20:35

I always find that a massive poop happens just as we're in a rush leaving the house... Sods law! :D x

First child was about two weeks old, hubby away on business trip, woke up to screaming baby. Looked. Into crib to see her distraught with poop coming up through neck of her baby grow. Took her to changing table put her Down to realise it was now covered in poop. Panicked, cried stripped her, and eventually rinsed her off. Got a nappy on and cleaned up. First time I really panicked I would not be up to the job.

Kangakate · 15/11/2015 20:59

I think my husband finds it the hardest, places usually have a baby changing table in the women's but hardly ever in the mens, so when he's on his own he finds it difficult, although if were out together he doesn't mind as I end up having to do them all!

katieskatie82 · 15/11/2015 21:05

my little boy had a habbit of peeing everywhere before i could get a clean nappy back on him! oh the joys! x

Annbunce · 15/11/2015 21:08

Once they are on the move - they toss and turn whilst trying to change their nappies

ellie17 · 15/11/2015 21:39

my worst was trying to change my niece on the backseat of the car and she kept wiggling down to the other side with me hitting my head several times on the roof! ouch!

backinschool · 15/11/2015 22:07

My daughter hates having nappy cream on and will try to wipe it off on her clothes, the carpet, all over me - whichever she gets to first. It's a constant battle getting her nappy on before my jeans are coated in sudocrem!

cluckyhen · 15/11/2015 22:34

The worst, and funniest - DS had a bout of the worst runs I have ever seen. I explained to DH that he needed to keep DS covered when changing him in case he exploded - which of course, he knew better.

DS exploded everywhere and I left DH to clean it up - only to be in the car on the M1 40 mins later to a very disgruntled DH. As an avid nail biter it turns out he hadn't quite scrubbed his hands well enough after clean up and was busy chewing poo!!

Themilseys · 15/11/2015 22:42

There are only 18 months between DD1 and DD2 and for a little while, both were in nappies. I can remember a couple of days when they both had unsettled tummies, OH came home for lunch on the first day and I had already changed a total of 15 nappies that day and it was only 1pm. He didn't come home for lunch the next day....

xxgeexx · 15/11/2015 23:07

changing in a restraunt that has no baby change = nightmare!!!

Jocelynne123 · 15/11/2015 23:39

When I had my eldest I couldn't afford nappies so I used cloth nappies. Worst thing ever. Gross but we all know here how bad babies poos smell. They lie in them and get them squished everywhere. Changing her wasn't bad but scraping the poop off the nappies and then washing them in the bath was horrible. It always set my gag reflex away. I would have killed for pampers. At least it meant because I couldn't take it anymore she was fully potty trained at 12 months old with only 2 accidents in her life. Xx

robyn297 · 16/11/2015 00:25

My son once had an awful nappy at the park and there was no where I could change him, so had to go home, we had just got there, so he wasn't happy about it. Someone needs to invent a pop nappy changing tent.

angiehoggett · 16/11/2015 08:34

the biggest challenge is never being able to find a changing facility when you need one and running out of wipes at the totally wrong time!

piggypoo · 16/11/2015 08:56

Trying to catch DD, after she'd stolen the dirty nappy, and ran around with it, telling everyone to "look" at it! If they didn't, she'd throw it at them!

TiggersAngel7774 · 16/11/2015 11:53

remembering to never take nappy off , until new was ready as left to the air my son would always pee. Often in a 6ft arc over my head( luckily)but hitting his chest of drawers
