MNHQ here - wanting to know: which TV Christmas ads can you remember?

Hello all

Apologies for the Christmas-related question but we're doing a bit of work on TV Christmas ads (for stores, brands or products) and we want to come up with a good wide-ranging list of all the Christmas ads we can collectively remember.

It would be great if you could post here to list any that occur to you - from recent years or from further back. If you can add the name of the product/shop/brand and any identifying details or YouTube links that would be great.

Thanks
MNHQ

It's a magical place, we're on our way there, toys in their millions all under one roof, it's called, TOYS R US

The holidays are coming coca cola adverts.

All the John Lewis ones.

The Boots one where the nurse finishes her shift on Boxing Day and all her family are up and waiting for her :) I think it's Boots anyway.

PizzaLegs23 · 19/10/2015 19:26

The Primark one "Primark, got a whole lot of things for Christmas, got a lot for the family..."

Sparklingbrook · 19/10/2015 19:37

Had anyone ever visited a place less 'magical' than Toys R Us? Angry

Quality Street. All the fun of the share. Very drole. I think it featured drum majorettes.

There was a Heineken ad from early eighties featuring a snowman in a snowstorm ornament. He smiles when he takes a sip of Heineken (obviously easily pleased). 'Raining In My Heart ' by Buddy Holly accompanied it.

ShmooBooMoo · 19/10/2015 19:58

Oxo!
ALL the good JL ones of the past few years,
M&S ones (hated that fairies one last year)

ShmooBooMoo · 19/10/2015 20:00

I forgot the annoying Ant and Dec Morrison's ads.

CormoranStrike · 19/10/2015 20:20

Victor Kiam - loved it so much he bought the company!

kinkytoes · 19/10/2015 20:36

There was an Andrex ad one year (eighties I think) where the puppies were joined by a white duck which 'mimed' along to Wizzard's I Wish it Could be Christmas Every Day. Really stuck with me for some reason!

DaisyDando · 19/10/2015 20:47

I wanted a Mr Frosty every year, so that must've been heavily advertised.

I still want one TBH.

knackered69 · 19/10/2015 20:48

It was boots for the nurse one - being a nurse and having worked christmas that made me feel a bit warm inside. Just don't get me a nasal hair trimmer though.

I had a 70's childhood and I remember the Denim aftershave advert - "For the man who doesn't have to try - too hard... " I remember saving up my pocket money to buy my Dad denim aftershave - he did actually like it! Happy days!

Roses chocolates - "Thank you very much for being my missus "

They weren't strictly christmas ads, but they came on at Christmas.

StopShoutingAtYourBrother · 19/10/2015 20:50

M&s, John Lewis and Iceland, all the recent years.

knackered69 · 19/10/2015 20:52

Toys R us is the bartering place of beezlebub.

Sparklingbrook · 19/10/2015 20:58

You are not wrong knackered. Magical my arse.

Theimpossiblegirl · 19/10/2015 20:59

I remember the recent John Lewis and Sainsbury's ads, they were both very, very good.

I also remember the Littlewood's Muvvah one because it annoyed me.

loosechange · 19/10/2015 21:02

The John Lewis advert from 2010 with Ellie Goudling's version of Your Song.

My favourite is the Iron Bru Snowman advert, which makes me chortle. I made the DC watch it last year, but I think they were a little baffled by my entertainment.

Link - I really love this advert!

GingerLDN · 19/10/2015 21:05

Love - The JL Snowman and the little boy with his parents gifts. Didn't like the Bear and the Hare. Coca Cola ad = Christmas is coming! The Irn Bru Snowman. Sainsburys WW1 and the soldiers coming home. The ad I hate most is any with the Here come the girls song. And like someone else said I thought the Freeview ad was a JL advert at first.

itsmeohlord · 19/10/2015 21:35

LY John Lewis one...

Woolies ones - they heralded the start of Xmas proper!!!

And I remember that stupid Asda one where the woman does everything and sits on a pouf to have her dinner!

annandale · 19/10/2015 21:40

I hate the Coca Cola ad but my God it does the job - something simple, annoying, repetitive and the same every year. It's the Ronseal of Christmas ads. They could probably do an advert now of someone dressed in red shaking a tambourine to the 'holidays are coming' rhythm and everyone would flash on Coke immediately like a nation of Pavlov's dogs.

I didn't see that Boots one last year and it's made me cry tonight, but then I do have a temperature. Just thinking of my amazing nurse colleagues. Who made that then? Genius. I am thinking about going to Boots RIGHT NOW.

itsmeohlord · 19/10/2015 21:49

Oh yes, the Boots one made me cry LY - and I do not cry at adverts!

sandgrown · 19/10/2015 21:50

I remember the Asda one with harassed mum(so true!). Favourites are the m&s glamorous ones with Sean Bean and Shirley Bassey singing "let's get this party started". I used to love the Cointreau ones of the 70s with the very sexy French man. The Bisto family were lovely and I remember the Ronco adverts for random things like bobble removers and mini vacs! Grin

EternalDalmatian · 19/10/2015 21:59

My favourite ones are John Lewis. The best one (about 3 years ago) was the little boy waiting for Xmas so that he can give his parents the gift he's bought. That song and advert actually make me a bit misty eyed. Closely followed by last years penguins falling in love Grin which was also amazing.

I remember the other JL ones too (the Bear and the Hare and the snowmen one...not all that IMO).

A couple of years ago there was a KFC one which stuck in my mind. It was very intense and cheesy, choirs and tables full of people singing about the 11 herbs and spices and made me smile every time.

Oh and Coca Cola...Holidays are coming! Holidays are coming!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 19/10/2015 22:01

I usually like the M&S adverts (the Country House and Take That?)
Peter Kay dancing?
I didn't like the Fairies (Fly Me to the Moon, )

I remember most of these ones on here (I am old)

One I remember for all the worst reasons was the Asda with Julie Walters
"I can't eat that I'm a waitress " when offered a chocolate curl, because I was really ill with proper flu and they kept showing the bloody advert .

Butteredparsnips · 19/10/2015 22:03

Sand grown I was going to say cointreau!

Coca-cola as mentioned a few times above

Come home to a real fire. I always wondered how they made that one.

Magic moments quality street

IsItIorAreTheOthersCrazy · 19/10/2015 22:06

I've loved the last 2 sainsburys ads - last years ww2 ad and the family being surprised by the soldier dads surprise return.

The Toys r us and coca cola ones are a given Smile

I'm sure when I was small there was one that was just jingle bells playing whilst showing a Christmas tree for a few seconds then a Santa leaving presents. Can't remember for the life of me what it was advertising though!

NerrSnerr · 19/10/2015 22:07

John Lewis penguin, polar bear and the present the boy bought. The Sainsbury's war one. Coca cola holidays are coming. 'Its the most wonderful time of the year'- no idea what it's advertising though. Was it Boots with the nurse coming home to her family?
