Be organised and quick - have everything to hand and before you even take the nappy off open up the nappy bag and either get a few wipes out of the packet or wet some pieces of cotton wool - you'll have one hand holding their legs and will appreciate you can do everything one handed if its all prepared.

gemima27 · 09/06/2015 18:09

be prepared.....a wipe out the packet ready, nappy opened and flattened, and a toy to place into hands if the child is old enough. Then smile...get eye contact...and work quickly before they get chance to escape or get bored and wriggle.

In those 'poo up the back' moments it's easier to sacrifice the outfit and use a pair of scissors to cut it off rather than spread the poo even further!

Kem99 · 09/06/2015 22:35

Get everything ready and to hand. Pull out some wipes before you start, especially with poos. When changing on the go, have some bags to put the dirty nappy in until you can put it in a suitable bin.

matphil · 09/06/2015 22:42

Get everything ready and to hand before you start, change them on your knees if you can as it's easier to keep them in one place, talk to the child while your changing them to reassure them and keep them occupied.

Parcel tape. Get a good length sticky side out and squidge it into a ball. Give it to your toddler who will pass it hand to hand trying to figure out why it's sticky and before you know it, nappy will have been changed without any commotion!

ser01 · 09/06/2015 23:40

have everything ready before the change, take tops of cream, open nappy up, open nappy sack if you are using one, all ready to go, and with baby boys watch for getting weed on the moment you loosen that dirty nappy!

Mummageddon · 10/06/2015 02:41

My tip is just to have everything ready within reach and be wary of boys peeing as soon as the nappy is opened!
If you get leaks, try different brands until you find one that suits. My boy had very skinny legs which meant we got leaks with certain nappies

snare · 10/06/2015 06:41

have a changing mat upstairs and downstairs :)

Buttonbean2 · 10/06/2015 09:02

My tip is to make sure a little boys willy is pointing down when the nappy is on. I did not realise this when I first had my son and wondered why pee would be all over his tummy and back when I cam to change him....

sammy15 · 10/06/2015 09:15

Have everything very close at hand and be prepared for the unexpected

JessGG · 10/06/2015 11:46

When they're old enough to wriggle keep them still for a nappy change by tickling them, making them giggle or keeping them entertained with a toy. Failing that the TV is a good distraction!

PhilTB54 · 10/06/2015 13:23

Get it over & done with . Big cuddle afterwards.

Rugbylovingmum · 10/06/2015 13:30

DD1 had a fairy wand that lit up and made a noise which was brilliant for distracting DD2 when she didn't want to stay still for a nappy change. The button was in just the right place for her to switch it on when she grabbed it. Poor DD1 lost it and it lived in my changing bag.

rjsmum11 · 10/06/2015 16:58

Be prepared.. mat, nappy bag, wipes, bum-cream at hand :)

Kangakate · 10/06/2015 17:28

Preparation, preparation, preparation - make sure you have everything to hand and ready to go, the nappy open, wipes and creams open and in your reach not babies and a bag to put it straight into. We also have a nappy changing song which seems to keep him still and entertained , well at least for now

JayneMWilkinson · 10/06/2015 18:09

Be prepared! Get everything you need - ready before you begin. And SMILE!

toffeeboffin · 10/06/2015 18:18

It really helps to have a couple of toys next to the change table. If you have a wriggly baby any distraction that keeps them still for two seconds whilst you do the change helps.

mumpetuk · 10/06/2015 18:54

Don't change the babies nappy if they do not need changing in the night feeds! just wakes them up unnecessarily.

dirtypop · 10/06/2015 19:39

get some practise in first

McDreamyMcNastyMcHottie · 10/06/2015 19:46

Clean nappy under the old nappy, and never leave a boys penis exposed unless you want an arc of urine in your eye!

JWalker23 · 10/06/2015 20:58

Top Tip is to always ensure everything is planned and you know where it is so that you don't leave baby Unattended! or get stressed trying to find something :)

janiegd · 10/06/2015 21:15

Always change nappies on the floor & make sure you have everything handy before you start!

APinkHardHat · 10/06/2015 22:33

Have everything you need within reaching distance before you start...
Pretty fabric changing mats that match your nursery colour scheme belong in brochures not real life! Ours was soon replaced with a wipe clean version.
