Nurofen for Children have asked us to find out which special privileges and treats you use to distract your DC when they’re under the weather.

Here’s what Nurofen for Children have to say: “Our research shows that a quarter of parents find the health of their child the most difficult subject to make decisions on. As parents, you want health advice you can trust. Nurofen for Children is trusted by parents - 9/10 parents who used it would recommend it to a friend*. If your child is struck down with cold, pain or fever, Nurofen for Children offers products to help manage their symptoms. It starts to work in just 15 minutes to bring down a temperature and is clinically proven to last longer than paracetemol to relieve a fever.”

So, what do you let your DC's get away with when they're feeling under the weather? For example, are they allowed to watch TV or play with consoles for longer? Or are they allowed to eat as many sugary snacks as they like? Do you have any special games or inspired tips to keep them entertained when they're poorly?

Tell us how you spoil your kids when they're poorly and you'll be entered into a prize draw to win a £250 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

DC definitely get to watch more TV when ill, though I will turn it off every couple of hours to give them a break and see if they can engage in something else (this allows me to see how unwell they are too!) I don't give them any sugary snacks, but try to give them what they fancy and extra drinks if they will have them. As many cuddles as they want!

Waitingonasunnyday · 20/02/2015 21:46

If mine are off school I tell them no screens but they can read and rest. Don't want them pulling sickies so they can watch DVDs!! After being sure it is genuine then I do put the TV on but it's not the default setting iyswim.

Waitingonasunnyday · 20/02/2015 21:48

PS why can't u-12 have ibuprofen tablets when they can have ibuprofen liquid?

It's brilliant once they can take tablets rather than £££ medicine- tend to treat mine with paracetamol for this reason.

When my 5 year old is poorly she's allowed to sleep with me in my bed & daddy gets to sleep in her bed!

She gets to watch a lot of tv and lie around on the sofa. She gets to stay in pyjamas all day too!

She loves making a den on the sofa from cushions and blankets & snuggling up inside with the iPad watching cartoons.

She recently had a sore throat & had lots of Ice cream to help soothe her! If she doesn't like the taste of the medicine we always have emergency chocolate to take the taste away!

When shes feeling a bit better we play games together & I read her lots of stories

& of course she has masses of extra cuddles & snuggles to comfort her

Rummikub · 21/02/2015 00:26

Lots of cuddles, can sleep in my bed (as long as its not hideously infectious) and sugary treats all go down well.

369thegoosedrankwine · 21/02/2015 00:50

Sleep with mummy and I go to bed when they do at night time and give endless cuddles.

During the day lie on the couch like the little emperor asking for what they want. Unlimited TV and attention.

There is nothing worse than being ill, so we do what we can to make it better.

mumnosbest · 21/02/2015 16:21

Nurofen - I really wish you'd put the dosage on your bottles and not just on or in the box! I have 3 DCs of different ages and have to check dosages online if I forget and bin the box.

georgedawes · 21/02/2015 17:01

Yes you have to spoil your kids when they're ill! For us, it's eat whatever you want (within reason), stay in pjs, watch tv and lots of cuddles. Much like what I'd like when I'm ill!! (not sure that I get it mind).

maryandbuzz1 · 21/02/2015 17:01

I set up a cosy den bed infront of the tv. Continually make drinks and snuggle up.

emmal01 · 21/02/2015 17:03

Plenty of drinks on sofa with duvet & dvd x

Cuddles and stories

cuppawithbiccies · 21/02/2015 17:10

always more lenient when they're poorly - treat them as i would want to be treated. tends to be a sofa day with hugs or whatever they feel like doing. Food tends to be their favourite foods but this is to encourage them to eat and does not include extra sugary stuff.

shroney · 21/02/2015 17:15

I'm much more lenient when they are ill. They get to watch movies on the sofa with duvet, pillow and hot water bottle if they want one.

I wouldn't let them have unlimited sugary snacks, just a small treat if they are feeling well enough. I usually encourage them to have a nap if the afternoon and often they will sleep in my bed listening to an audio book.

They both love herbal tea so a cup of camomile or peppermint is comforting.

jt75 · 21/02/2015 17:16

Cuddles in bed and special food.

createbeauty · 21/02/2015 17:21

I usually give my son a lot more attention and am a lot more lenient with him. He gets to watch whatever he wants to on TV and gets a lot of cuddles. Sometimes I'll give him a treat of biscuits or sweets because of how nice and sweetly he asks for them.

puczinix · 21/02/2015 17:23

I would bake them my special carrot cake which I know is their favourite even when they can't swallow anything else.

andywedge · 21/02/2015 17:25

Lots of cuddles. Ownership of the sofa and end to end films of their choice.

phillip666 · 21/02/2015 17:34

Movies . Duvets . Cuddles . And The Cookie Jar -

We Build An Indoor Tent

And Settle Down To Family Movies

shawbarbara · 21/02/2015 17:43

I definitely am more lenient, wouldn't think of asking them to tidy or tell them off, I treat them the way I want to be treated when I feel ill.
We do duvet days- lots of fresh water/diluted juice and watching films together.

israrbaig · 21/02/2015 17:52

Let them play the PlayStation longer than normal

Spencer1234 · 21/02/2015 18:02

I spoil my son with lots of love & cuddles when he is poorly

glennamy · 21/02/2015 18:03

I just make sure my little girl gets lots of cuddles and attention. I read to her or play with her special stuffed toy animals to try and cheers her up! If iher conditionallows for it I let her have special treats to eat or drink. Also we watch her favourite cartoons/films etc...

ChristmasName · 21/02/2015 18:05

You're allowed to spend all night cuddling in mummy's bed

Annbunce · 21/02/2015 18:08

Poorly kids = lots of cuddles, duvet on the sofa watching Disney films. Also, waiting on them hand and foot x

prwilson · 21/02/2015 18:11

Watch more TV than usual.
