Nurofen for Children have asked us to find out which special privileges and treats you use to distract your DC when they’re under the weather.

Here’s what Nurofen for Children have to say: “Our research shows that a quarter of parents find the health of their child the most difficult subject to make decisions on. As parents, you want health advice you can trust. Nurofen for Children is trusted by parents - 9/10 parents who used it would recommend it to a friend*. If your child is struck down with cold, pain or fever, Nurofen for Children offers products to help manage their symptoms. It starts to work in just 15 minutes to bring down a temperature and is clinically proven to last longer than paracetemol to relieve a fever.”

So, what do you let your DC's get away with when they're feeling under the weather? For example, are they allowed to watch TV or play with consoles for longer? Or are they allowed to eat as many sugary snacks as they like? Do you have any special games or inspired tips to keep them entertained when they're poorly?

Tell us how you spoil your kids when they're poorly and you'll be entered into a prize draw to win a £250 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

So, are you a bit more lenient on your Darling Children when they’re feeling under the weather? - yes. I basically become their slave.

Are they allowed to watch TV or play with consoles for longer? Consoles no, TV yes - mostly movies.

Do you let them set up camp with a duvet on the sofa? Yes! And I snuggle with them.

Are they allowed to eat as many sugary snacks as they like? No, but I always make them applesauce. I also often make chicken soup when they are ill. Big jugs of weak squash (normally limited) to get fluids in.

Do you have any special games or inspired tips to keep them entertained when they're poorly? Mine are older so I don't always read to them any more - but I always do when they are ill. We often revisit old favourite books and TV series from when they were younger which is a nice way to make them feel cosy and cosseted.

When my children were small whenever they were poorly they loved being in my bed at night and during the day we would make up a poorly bed on the sofa I'm now doing this with my grandchildren

jdunthorne · 21/02/2015 20:44

Bed camps on the sofa and Mummy waitress service!

lucyrobinson · 21/02/2015 20:47

If my kiddies feel poorly I let them snuggle on the sofa, watch movies and eat food and drink that they would only have as a treat. Also give them more of my time. x

alsproject · 21/02/2015 20:50

We allow them to eat in their room and play on their Nintendo

barbsbarbs · 21/02/2015 20:52

buythem magazines, make tomato soup and read to them

littleme96 · 21/02/2015 20:53

Ill children tend to mean duvet days on the sofa in our house. Usually with a good film or two on, as mine oddly don't tend to sleep more when they are ill so it's a good way to preserve any energy they do have.

I am more relaxed about what they can have to drink as I just want to get fluid into them and bland/plain food is offered regularly, but not treats in case of upset tummies.

And lots of cuddles are always available of course too!

waitingforgodot · 21/02/2015 20:57

When my DS is ill, I make him a bed on the sofa let him watch tv and pander to his every whim.

kimbers85 · 21/02/2015 20:58

i give them lots of cuddles !!!!!!!!!

Cailin7 · 21/02/2015 20:59

When my DCs have been really ill they do not feel like doing much but sleep in bed or snuggle on the couch.

paulaburnside114 · 21/02/2015 21:03

I always let them curl up on the sofa with a blanket and watch a DVD. I always find hot Ribena tempts them to drink even if they don't feel like it. The smell of it still remind me of being poorly when I was a little girl.

Dolallytats · 21/02/2015 21:07

When mine are ill I get the duvet and a pillow and set them up on the sofa. They can watch TV/play video games if they want. I might let them have more treats (depending on what's wrong) and they may get their favourite magazine if I have the money.

And unwell children always sleep in bed with mummy!!

stacey2kids · 21/02/2015 21:12

What I have learnt the past year is that life can be short and to make the most of your family, yes I spoil my children when they are ill we snuggle up watch tv depending in what they are ill with snacks and nibbles, we play games and might even buy them something to keep them busy maybe a new toy if they are feeling low to cheer them up.... Because life is to short and children grow so fast! so I make the most of my children Ill or not I still treat them and spoil them x but they also kno thier limits and have respect Smile

BellaWella86 · 21/02/2015 21:14

I let her wear her favourite onesie all day, snuggle on the sofa with a duvet and DVD and drink lots of warm milk (her favourite drink).

angiem32 · 21/02/2015 21:34

A cup of warm blackcurrant (heated gently in the microwave), a snuggly blanket and me reading lots of books. I let him stay in his pyjamas and watch some of his favourite programmes too whilst I snuggle down with him for the day

pfcpompeysarah · 21/02/2015 21:38

My son is allowed to lay on the sofa in his PJ's with a duvet and hot water bottle to keep him warm and cosy, he gets to watch DVD's and his favourite programmes... just like my mum used to let me do.

cherylann2461 · 21/02/2015 21:39

When my son is ill I treat him with plenty of hot soups, hot drinks, bedrest and Mum at his beck and call!

juju3 · 21/02/2015 21:39

Buy them Lucazade

CheeseEMouse · 21/02/2015 21:40

My daughter is allowed to watch more TV -it's not something we watch much of, so when she is feeling ill she cuddles up with me to watch it

HappySunflower · 21/02/2015 21:49

My daughter spends lots of time tucked up in my bed watching dvds, playing on the iPad amd drinking warm milk and eating things like jelly or rice pudding. That's whn she's awake as she tends to sleep more when she's poorly.

Loads and loads of extra snuggle time for her. I don't tend to get a lot of sleep as I check on her so often so we both tend to rest up lots and rest together.

gnomebulb2 · 21/02/2015 22:03

I'm definitely more lenient. They have a duvet day, or week, depending how long they are ill! I think this is when TV comes into its own. If that's all they feel up to doing that is fine with me. And then maybe some video games when they start to feel a bit better. I will also read to them or sit on the sofa and watch something with them if that's what they want.

Foodwise depends on what's wrong with them...but generally if they have lost their appetite I try and tempt them with little bits of things that are gentle on the stomach and slip down easily, without being too unhealthy...such as yoghurt or porridge.

mave · 21/02/2015 22:08

Duvet on sofa, lots of TV and cuddles!

arat · 21/02/2015 22:14

Duvet or fleecy blanket on the sofa + remote control for the TV - seems to cure so many aches & pains!

Sarn1234 · 21/02/2015 22:15

My boys are grown up but when my daughter is ill, she gets to lie on the sofa with her duvet. Watch tv or sleep if she wants and I give her water, boiled eggs and soldiers, jelly and ice cream or ice lollies. Of course if she is sick it will be dry crackers and toast. She will only take nurofen, she cant take calpol as it makes her sick! I sponge her head and put a fan on her if she has a temperature.
