With warmer weather still far away, Flora would love to hear about Mumsnetters' favourite baking activities, as well as other indoor activities for you and your DCs.

Here's what Flora have to say: "We know that here in the UK, we're not blessed with the most predictable weather and as the first school holiday approaches and you’re still stuck indoors, it’s not always easy to keep dreaming up activities to keep the kids from climbing the walls that don’t eat into the household budget. Flora is here to offer a helping hand, baking with Flora Buttery is about having a good time, and not making the perfect creations – our all-in-one recipe couldn’t be simpler and needs just 15 minutes prep time, five ingredients and one bowl. Even better when you are all baked out and the tub is empty it can be used for fun, simple arts and crafts activities!"

So, do you have any baking activities which you love to do with your DCs? What do you like to bake? Are there any recipes you follow, or do you prefer to get creative while baking with your DCs?

If you're not a baker, do you have any other fail-safe activities for you and your DCs to do indoors? Maybe you like to work on arty projects? Or perhaps you've invented some games to play together?

Whatever your favourite activities are, Flora would love to hear about them.

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £150 John Lewis voucher.

Please note your comments may be included on Flora's social media channels, and possibly elsewhere, so please only post if you're comfortable with this.

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

My kids love baking fairy cakes, and decorating them. Krispy cakes with sprinkles on is an all time favourite, lots of fun and I they can do most of it themselves other than melting chocolate.

we love to bake different cakes, muffins and cupcakes. indoor activities we find recycled things in the house and make lots of things out of it!

giggleboxnic · 31/01/2015 16:09

It has to be fairy cakes - simple to make and quick to do as my little one soon gets bored helping me out!

HappySunflower · 31/01/2015 20:49

Making pizza faces out of muffins, passata or tomato sauce, grated cheese and lots of different toppings :)

Jellies made with grapes, strawberries or jelly sweets set inside them.

Generally we try to create something with whatever ingredients we've got handy - however cakes are a firm favourite due to having two small cake monsters - we have experimented with some savoury alternatives including cheese ans chive muffins and courgette muffins attempting to sneak some extra veggies in :-)

I used to bake with my brother and mum when I was little - usually a recipe from the Be-ro book. So I love getting out the scales and bowls with my DCs and making gingerbread men and iced spiced biscuits. DS never really wants cake unless he's had a hand in making it (I'm less fussy).

Cupcakes, decorating pre-made ones and making ones from scratch. Occasionally we even have food fights. (Yes I'm still a child at heart!)

We often bake a cake for DD's soft toys when it is their birthday. We make party hats, blow up balloons and make a card when the cake is in the oven. Once the cake is ready we have little birthday picnic on the rug to celebrate the soft toy's birthday.

We prefer making a big cake to fairy cakes and to be honest it doesn't use that much extra ingredients to do an 8 inch Victoria sponge with icing and sprinkles (not forgetting the birthday candle).

DD will sometimes choose to do a wedding with her my little pony toys, just a variation of the same game but this time we make a 'wedding' cake instead of a birthday cake.

We mostly bake fairy cakes and scones. There are usually good intentions of decorating the cakes, but then they get eaten before they are cool enough for icing.
We make fruit crumbles a fair bit too - popular with the DC because you get to rub the flour and butter with your fingers like when making scones.
I'd like to make biscuits more often - we have lots of biscuit cutter shapes, but they always seem to go wrong for some reason!

We bake cakes, but we mainly love playing with play doh.

StickChildNumberTwo · 02/02/2015 18:54

DD had a Paddington cookbook for Christmas and loved making muffins with Grandma. Grandma enjoyed it so much she's booked doing it again next time they're visiting! DD and I managed biscuits to decorate before Christmas, but we're rarely that organised.

My 10 year old loves making cakes and biscuits with me especially if they involve chocolate as she will lick out the bowl afterwards! One of our favourites is a chocolate and raspberry biscuit cake on the Waitrose website and it doesn't need to go in the oven!

oneofeachkind · 03/02/2015 10:19

Quick and simple, marshmellow rice crispy crunch!
Great for kids, to eat and to prepare! Not much mess and last a few days.

Mrscog · 06/02/2015 09:28

My 2 year old loves baking with me. I try and select simple activities for him to help with (mixing the wet and dry ingredients, mashing bananas).

If I can't face actual baking we break out with the play-doh instead!

We love making pizzas, gets very messy but keeps her entertained.

We also love attempting to make cupcakes.

Spurtle · 08/02/2015 19:21

Scones are a favorite with both my kids. They love squishing it in their hands, patting it out and cutting the rounds themselves.
