With warmer weather still far away, Flora would love to hear about Mumsnetters' favourite baking activities, as well as other indoor activities for you and your DCs.

Here's what Flora have to say: "We know that here in the UK, we're not blessed with the most predictable weather and as the first school holiday approaches and you’re still stuck indoors, it’s not always easy to keep dreaming up activities to keep the kids from climbing the walls that don’t eat into the household budget. Flora is here to offer a helping hand, baking with Flora Buttery is about having a good time, and not making the perfect creations – our all-in-one recipe couldn’t be simpler and needs just 15 minutes prep time, five ingredients and one bowl. Even better when you are all baked out and the tub is empty it can be used for fun, simple arts and crafts activities!"

So, do you have any baking activities which you love to do with your DCs? What do you like to bake? Are there any recipes you follow, or do you prefer to get creative while baking with your DCs?

If you're not a baker, do you have any other fail-safe activities for you and your DCs to do indoors? Maybe you like to work on arty projects? Or perhaps you've invented some games to play together?

Whatever your favourite activities are, Flora would love to hear about them.

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £150 John Lewis voucher.

Please note your comments may be included on Flora's social media channels, and possibly elsewhere, so please only post if you're comfortable with this.

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

My son loves the fairy cakes in the box to make with Dad or making victoria sponge and filling with fresh whipped cream and strawberries .

He spends most his summer with the grandparents down the caravan locally . So we pop back and fro to see him and if we can tear him away we all love days at the park, beach or local outdoor lido

puczinix · 24/01/2015 18:03

Me and my DC love baking, our favourite are cupcakes.

garemand · 24/01/2015 18:13

In our house it all gets very competitive in the form of "cook-offs" with Dad. Last they did was barbecue ribs. Dad won! Even the kids had to admit his ribs were best.

DD (3) really loves to 'help' me bake. I try to manage by giving her achievable tasks - like pouring this into that, or beating the eggs, turning on the mixer.
Biscuits are always good, as I can give her some dough and her cutters and she's happy, whilst I can get on with making the proper biscuits.

mamof3boys · 24/01/2015 18:35

We like baking. Our current favourite is gingerbread men as it's fun to decorate them.

veroinuk · 24/01/2015 19:28

We like baking together mainly biscuits or cupcakes as my children are not old enough for other things. I like making bread, so nice to have home made bread with soup when it is cold.

lilrahi · 24/01/2015 19:45

We love to make cookies and bake cakes together. They get to choose the flavours and do all the mixing and putting into tins and trays. I get the boring job of putting the mix into the oven, lol.

cinderellao9 · 24/01/2015 19:55

we make pizza regularly and she really enjoys making cupcakes, well decorating them anyway!

fairyprincess79 · 24/01/2015 20:02

We love making banana bread. Easy to make and healthy too so I don't mind us making it lots!

RabbitSaysWoof · 24/01/2015 20:02

decorating biscuits
good ol pizza making
Sofa cushion castles
camps with blanket over 2 chairs
dry pasta 'cooking' with bowls, pans, big spoons
water toys over bath

pennystextiles · 24/01/2015 20:59

I cook all manner of things, from simple cookies to iced cakes... best fun is had doing some crafting however. Kids especially love making art and textile crafts. Hours of entertainment!

sweir1 · 24/01/2015 21:26

We love making paper mache animals

tanyavt · 24/01/2015 21:35

I had a UNO championship with DD- she wanted to bet £1 a game... I was £5 down and had to win it all back!! It could have ended up with a very sore loser, but betting with 'real' money kept things really light hearted!

We also like cooking together... and DCs always love to help... got home from shopping today and DSs (aged 6) put all the shopping away... RESULT!!

Our favourite thing is for dc1 to go through our Mary Berry cake book, and pick a new recipe to try :)

juju3 · 24/01/2015 22:25

Going for a walk together and enjoying the fresh air

Me & my little un's love to cook,
We try to find fun recipes online & in books,
The only thing is, I have a small house,
my kitchen would be a great size for a mouse!
So I have to cook with my kids sometimes one by one,
I don't really mind and we try to keep it fun!
I'm no Delia, so we keep it easy & fun,
from wee fairy cakes to chocolate hot cross buns!
My favourite recipe has to be speedy choc orange sponge cake,
Everyone loves it and its easy to make!
Just make a normal sponge, adding orange juice,
mix it all up 'til the mixtures quite loose,
then put in the oven until its golden brown,
then to remove, place the tin upside down!
Then as its cooling, mix cooking chocolate up well,
then pour over the top, and man it looks swell!
Let the chocolate cool, and set over the cake,
see! I told you it was easy to make!
Yep, anyone can make it, I cross my heart & soul,
The only problem is the kids ALL want to lick the bowl!

Fairy cakes - always a hit with lurid icing and sprinkles, jam tarts with whatever jam you have in the cupboard or the very favourite - Corn Flake or Rice Krispie cakes - yummy and fun!

beehummingbird · 24/01/2015 22:51

Making brownies.

ataraxia · 24/01/2015 22:56

I don't have DCs at the moment, but when baking with kids I go for something quick and simple but tasty, like shortbread or cake with icing and sprinkles. Yum!

zebedee01 · 24/01/2015 23:10

We love baking cupcakes and then I get all my stuff out of the cupboard and let them decorate them themselves which they love and get really creative :)

Also we like making cards for family members, I have drawers full of stuff and again I let them design their own x

redstararnie76 · 24/01/2015 23:15

Both of my kids love baking and always have. My youngest perches on the worktop next to me so that he can watch and join in. We really love to make stained glass biscuits - crush up a hardboiled sweet and melt it in the middle of a raw biscuit - lovely, and they look fab!

diammondgirlz2013 · 24/01/2015 23:16

We love making all different types of cakes and decorating them it's been our Saturday fun time since my youngest were old enough and he's now 16 and still joins in! We've recently started a cooking session too on a saturday tea time were the kids help me prepare dinner, they each have there own task which I'm hoping will learn them to cook aswell as give them a passion to do so for when they are adults that way I'll have peace of mind when they go to college that they can cook at least.

itsmeexxx · 24/01/2015 23:33

We love baking gingerbread and sometimes to make it more fun we will make a gingerbread house, they are not just for xmas :-) The children love decorating them with sweets and icing.

Em86 · 25/01/2015 00:43

Fairy cakes with lots of icing and dolly mix on top

whitbyranger · 25/01/2015 07:01

We are having a beach hut in Whitby for the summer this year. Buckets and spades, paddling, barbecues. We've got our summer sorted!
