LifeSkills created with Barclays has asked us to find out what Mumsnetters (and their teenagers!) think of LifeSkills videos.

Here’s what LifeSkills say, “We launched LifeSkills last year to help young people to realise their ambitions and be successful in the future. These new videos, using real life case studies, are designed to highlight how important it is for young people to develop the skills they need for the world of work. We are very proud that so far the programme has helped over 718,258 young people to gain employability skills and more than 10,586 teachers are registered.”

Young people can use the LifeSkills website to complete a range of interactive resources, which are endorsed by City & Guilds, to learn everything from how to write a CV, interview skills and personal presentation through to matching their skills to a career. Additionally, the programme provides schools with a range of free, unbranded lesson plans, workshops and resources for teachers to help pupils aged 11 to 19 develop the skills employers most want. Teachers can then use LifeSkills to help match their pupils to local work experience opportunities”.

You can watch a series of LifeSkills videos below:

What impression do the videos give you of LifeSkills? Do you like the look of it, or not? If so, why? If not, why not? LifeSkills are keen to hear from different groups, so, if you have a teenager we’d love it if you could show a couple of the videos to them and ask them what they think of it. Is it something they’d be interested in? Likewise, LifeSkills are also keen to hear from teachers, so, if you’re a teacher let us know and tell us what you think. Whatever it is, we’d love to hear it!

There are two prizes to be won, x2 £100 Love2Shop voucher (note: these are not associated with Barclays or LifeSkills). One voucher will go to a Mumsnetter who gives their own feedback and one to a teacher who gives feedback. So, when you leave your comment let us know which group you’re giving feedback under and we’ll make sure you’re entered into the correct prize draw.

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

I'm a Mumsnetter. I found the videos and ads very helpful and any resource that encourages young people to make the best of themselves to obtain a job is good.

Summergarden · 13/11/2014 16:16

Teacher here.

I think there is a real need for this type of education for young people. Developing these types of skills are essential for succeeding in today's competitive world.

They are easy to understand and simplistic enough for young teens to fully understand. I think it would provoke them into thinking about how they come across to potential employers and how to improve any negative aspects.

Great resources.

TracyKNixon · 13/11/2014 17:41

Great videos which I think will appeal to teenages - I just wish I'd seen them when I was their age! I think it is a good idea for both schools and parents to show their children these videos.

callkiki · 13/11/2014 18:32

I love the videos because it provides helpful messages without being cheesy or preachy. Great reminders for adults too that everyone speaks fast when nervous or how you come across to others is important.

RMonkton · 13/11/2014 18:34

These are really good. I like the way it is an essential teaching tool.

shawbarbara · 13/11/2014 18:35

I think these are great - to the point and not patronising.

These life skills are basic but crucial and are definitely required viewing for today's teenagers.

janeyf1 · 13/11/2014 18:36

I really liked the videos because they are amusing but also a useful tool and worthwhile for the young to view.

puczinix · 13/11/2014 18:37

I like the videos and think they themselves can teach some basic lifeskills and make young people more aware of their importance.

Ganne · 13/11/2014 18:50

It's not so much skills as social abilities, thoughtfulness and confidence young people (and all of us) need.

rainbowvalley · 13/11/2014 18:54

I think it is excellent, you can never have enough life skills and some have to be learn't the hard way and through experience. Some children do not have the option of obtaining life skills and some, just ignore parents good advise. This is video is excellent and very informative and re enforces parents advise. I personally wish we had had something similar at school because a lot of subjects I was taught were not nearly as useful as life skills later on in life!

peg0161 · 13/11/2014 18:57

really good advise its daunting enough I know my son will be in this position next year so any help and guidance is appreciated

Claire605 · 13/11/2014 18:59

I think even though they are a bit embarrassing with the lols and amazeballs, they do actually portray a really important message which makes you think about how you come across to other people. It definitely made me think more about my recent interview and the way I was going to talk and the amount of confidence in my voice. It made me stop the um's for sure!

jodiecrossley1 · 13/11/2014 19:08

i think they are great for young people!

TOADfan · 13/11/2014 19:19

I was involved as a youth worker in the life skills program being rolled out to Northern Ireland.

Not only is the information it gives great and informative, they train up young people to deliver it themselves. I saw many a young person grow in confidence and have a greater understanding of how to manage their money.

rachheap2014 · 13/11/2014 19:23

I like these videos they are interesting and very informative

becks213 · 13/11/2014 19:28

I'm 28 myself and thought that the video's could be a useful to watch for teenagers, but asked my youngest sister who is 17 and she said that she does not need someone to tell her how to act in an interview! Typical teenager response and I think she would benefit from seeing more life skills videos!

Minnibix · 13/11/2014 20:02

I really think that these Life Skills videos are brilliant, fun but informative and its good that these is somewhere that teenagers can log on to for more information. A lot of it is just good manners and common sense but it can be helpful

glennamy · 13/11/2014 20:11

I think that the Life Skills videos are excellent, every teenager should watch them even if it helps them in just one area, as these habits are easily picked up with their friends.

angela25rose · 13/11/2014 20:14

Good videos that relate well to youngsters, very interesting and informative

matphil · 13/11/2014 20:23

Mumsnetter.

I think the videos are great and would love to see more like these. I will be showing them to my children.

samosh22 · 13/11/2014 20:33

I like the videos very informative

tranmereforever · 13/11/2014 20:37

I like them especially the body language one, its very useful and it is a good lesson for people attending interviews

compy99 · 13/11/2014 20:55

I like them, I think they get the message over clearly and concisely in short bites, so they keep your interest.

informer365 · 13/11/2014 21:10
