LifeSkills created with Barclays has asked us to find out what Mumsnetters (and their teenagers!) think of LifeSkills videos.

Here’s what LifeSkills say, “We launched LifeSkills last year to help young people to realise their ambitions and be successful in the future. These new videos, using real life case studies, are designed to highlight how important it is for young people to develop the skills they need for the world of work. We are very proud that so far the programme has helped over 718,258 young people to gain employability skills and more than 10,586 teachers are registered.”

Young people can use the LifeSkills website to complete a range of interactive resources, which are endorsed by City & Guilds, to learn everything from how to write a CV, interview skills and personal presentation through to matching their skills to a career. Additionally, the programme provides schools with a range of free, unbranded lesson plans, workshops and resources for teachers to help pupils aged 11 to 19 develop the skills employers most want. Teachers can then use LifeSkills to help match their pupils to local work experience opportunities”.

You can watch a series of LifeSkills videos below:

What impression do the videos give you of LifeSkills? Do you like the look of it, or not? If so, why? If not, why not? LifeSkills are keen to hear from different groups, so, if you have a teenager we’d love it if you could show a couple of the videos to them and ask them what they think of it. Is it something they’d be interested in? Likewise, LifeSkills are also keen to hear from teachers, so, if you’re a teacher let us know and tell us what you think. Whatever it is, we’d love to hear it!

There are two prizes to be won, x2 £100 Love2Shop voucher (note: these are not associated with Barclays or LifeSkills). One voucher will go to a Mumsnetter who gives their own feedback and one to a teacher who gives feedback. So, when you leave your comment let us know which group you’re giving feedback under and we’ll make sure you’re entered into the correct prize draw.

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

I like the videos, they show the basic skills that young people should have. this would improve confident, self esteem and in turn further opportunities

smit23 · 16/11/2014 20:04

mumsnetter.. I like the videos I think they're clever & get a good message across.

ser1 · 16/11/2014 20:05

like them, short, to the point and informative.

Carriemac · 16/11/2014 20:34

Good, hit the right note for teenagers, I think you should do one for younger teens as well, I see such a lot of socially awkward teens!

lauratheobald1 · 16/11/2014 20:49

informative & to the point. x

lilmiztam22 · 16/11/2014 20:49

I think they are really good and give advice that is much needed!

maria08k · 16/11/2014 21:00

I like they, they are straight to the point and point out obvious mistakes that you wouldnt realise you are making!

baconbap · 16/11/2014 21:22

I think the videos are really good

chrriss · 16/11/2014 21:39

Great idea to help young people with life skills. I don't think some kids realise their behaviour is anything but the norm.

BooLoo13 · 16/11/2014 22:04

The videos are good for giving younger people confidence - something of which schools lack giving! Its a good video that gives great advice and positive influence.

laurapotz · 16/11/2014 22:26

An interesting idea. I am a secondary school teacher on a career break while I bring up my DD. Lots of the kids I teach could benefit from the advice in the video.

Gilla01 · 16/11/2014 22:44

I liked them, apart from the 'um' clip which appalled me.

The idea behind them is excellent.

katief1001 · 16/11/2014 22:53

I think they are a really good idea which would and could help the younger peoples confidence especially when applying for jobs etc..

littlemisstrivia · 16/11/2014 23:21

I think they are good as most young people don't have a clue when they leave school as their only point of reference is communicating with other people their age in an informal way

beehummingbird · 16/11/2014 23:44

They could be useful.

lilrahi · 16/11/2014 23:49

Mumsnetter

I like these videos and think if they're backed up by studies and material in a classroom setting it would really help teenagers learn some valuable life skills

ddpunk182 · 16/11/2014 23:52

In the main these videos are good, and would be useful to show many children and young adults in PSE classes. However, I work with children with disabilities and I wholeheartedly agree with the mumsnetter, Queen of Knickers, regarding the stammer video! Shameful to reinforce this attitude.

worriedmum46 · 17/11/2014 00:01

I think the videos are great, having a teenager in my house makes me see the reason for them!! I hope these would be shown at school. I've tried to get her to watch them with me with little success, school might fare better.

ktandspen · 17/11/2014 00:12

Not impressed with the "umm" video. At all. It feels very condescending to those with low confidence or speech problems.

ktandspen · 17/11/2014 00:14

Turkey Pasta!!

chunkychocky · 17/11/2014 03:27

Mostly I think they are very good and to the point without being patronising. As my sons aren't yet teenagers and its been a while for me I think these get some relevant messages across well, but maybe I'm forgetting quite how little teenagers will want to watch something an adult aims at them!

hannahlw85 · 17/11/2014 08:29

I think they're great, certain life skills seem to be lacking these days so helping young people to be the best they can for certain situations is a great idea.

grannybiker · 17/11/2014 08:30

Relevant to the youngsters, that's vital!

snare · 17/11/2014 09:28

Good video, gets the point across for kids

NannyPlumIsMyIdol · 17/11/2014 09:37

I like them, informative, straight to the point, i particularly like the body language one. I feel there is a sad lack of lifeskills being taught these days and anything that can rectify that is a plus.

I will be showing them to DD1, hopefully she may take something on board!
