The team at Flora have asked us to find out about Mumsnetters' signature family dishes.

Here's what Flora have to say:

“We all want everyday food that’s tasty, nutritious and simple to prepare but with busy lives, that’s not always easy. We’ve taken on the challenge to help, and have launched Gold from Flora – a blend of butter and Flora* with a rich, creamy taste, a natural winner at any time of the day. It’s great for spreading on toast, makes lunchtime sandwiches tasty, and vegetables taste better at dinner too. We'd love to hear about your signature dish and how you make it special.”

So what’s your signature dish? Maybe it’s the meal you can make in no time at all, with just a handful of simple, quality ingredients? Or perhaps it’s a dish that you've perfected over the years, that everyone is guaranteed to love? Maybe you can make impressive roast potatoes? Or know the secret to perfect, tasty vegetables?

Whatever your signature dish is, Flora would love to hear about it.

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £200 John Lewis voucher.

Please note your comments may be included on Flora's social media channels, and possibly elsewhere, so please only post if you're comfortable with this.

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

Ours is always spaghetti bolognaise , a guaranteed winner especially with homemade garlic bread Smile

QuietNinjaTardis · 05/06/2014 21:27

My signature dish is chilli con carne, I make a mean chilli con carne. Dhs is pork escalope and homemade chips. It's one of the noisier dishes as he beats the hell out of the pork then whizzes the breadcrumbs up. I love both meals.

GetKnitted · 05/06/2014 22:09

home made pizza :) yum scrum

AndHarry · 05/06/2014 22:16

Our 'signature dish' seems to be Tesco breadsticks these days, sometimes handed back to me with a special relish of toddler saliva after an experimental gnaw. Mmmmm...

Aside from that, I do an excellent Bolognese sauce. I boil off a small cup of milk through the beef before adding the tomatoes, use a decent amount of finely sliced pancetta and cook the whole lot for a good couple of hours.

ScrambledEggAndToast · 06/06/2014 06:58

My signature dish is proper spaghetti bolognaise, none of this out of a jar stuff!! I use fresh tomatoes, smoky bacon cut into strips, Worcestershire sauce and red wine in addition to all the usual ingredients. I use fresh spaghetti for a change and sprinkle with Parmesan. It's absolutely lovely.

I'm sorry to be boring but Spag Bol has never been off our list of favourite meals. Other. Dishes come in and out of favour but Spag Bol is here to stay. My eldest kids are at Uni and either cook it there or do a big batch of the meat sauce when they come home. Their shared student kitchens are beyond grim so batch cooking at home is easier for them.

My spag Bol is a quick version using a good quality mince. Fry onions very slowly, add mince, add fresh tomato sauce, add cooked pasta. I love that I can cook the base during the day and then just throw it together for supper. You can't get simpler than that. It's delicious though.

There are 3 dishes that i make more often than anything else!

The first is pasta bake which i have been making since i was a teenager and it has changed over the years and i add different veg, meat or spices everytime but it's always good.

The second is puff pastry pizza as my little one loves making this with me. He gets to roll out the pastry and put everything on so he feels like he made it himself and he always eats it.

The last is tuna and sweetcorn (and anything else i feel like throwing in) hash. This is a recently added staple! the first time i made it my child cleared his plate (a rare occurance indeed) i was so shocked i almost cried!! Needless to say we don't go a week without making it!!

I am vegetarian and use butter in almost every dish. THis is only protein source for me and my kids. I Have to be creative every day. FEw days ago I came up with Cous cous cooked wit FLora butter. I added few spoons of tomato juice and red pepper.

I don't have one particular signature dish, but I do knock up a lovely batch of fairy cakes more often than I should. I take requests, but they are usually vanilla with buttercream icing or vanilla and nutella as these are my DS's favourites.

CheeseEMouse · 07/06/2014 07:53

My signature dish (well, what I rely on) is my fish pie. It is something that I can batch cook, and so near tge end of pregnancy I did a couple to freeze, and they were a lifesaver during the early days after the baby was born. They also have the advantage now of being something my daughter loves to eat with us!

Cucumberscarecrow · 07/06/2014 09:30

We love smokies:

Heat some oil in a frying pan. Add a punnet of halved baby tomatoes and a bunch of roughly chopped spring onions. Heat for five minutes. Add a couple of roughly chopped smoked mackerel fillets and a small tub of creme fraiche. Once it's all hot, transfer to an oven and bake for 20 mins.

We eat this with rocket and homemade oven chips. Yum!

CheeryCherry · 07/06/2014 11:00

Ours is a winter warmer, stew and dumplings, using layers of sliced potatoes, sliced onions, carrots, sweet corn, quorn pieces, then sliced potatoes again...lashings of thyme, bay leaves and veg bouillon, cook in oven for an hour or two, then pop dumplings on top for the last ten minutes. Delicious!

ShoeWhore · 07/06/2014 13:37

I cook lots of different stuff but the one dish we return to time and time again is bolognese.

My version is flavoured with pancetta onions garlic red wine tomato puree bay leaf and fresh rosemary. And cooked for a long long time.

RhinosAreFatUnicorns · 07/06/2014 13:45

Boring maybe but my signature dish is lasagne, but made with cottage cheese rather than bechemal sauce, but still topped with loads of mature cheddar and sometimes mozzarella too.

It's a really easy dish that I can make with my eyes closed but everyone that has it loves it :)

HettyD · 07/06/2014 16:47

My signature dish is chicken - with a pesto crust and vine tomatoes. To make the crust mix cream cheese, grated cheddar, breadcrumbs (make in batches and keep in freezer) and pesto. Mix and smear on top of chicken. Cook in oven and in last 10 minutes add vine tomatoes /mini tomatoes and a splash if balsamic. Best served with mash and green veggies... Yet to have someone not like...

francesthebadger · 07/06/2014 22:06

Mine has been passed down by Mum. Sausage and cabbage risotto with butter beans. Really comforting. Secret ingredient is a squirt of tomato ketchup!

milliemoon · 07/06/2014 23:24

My signature dish is veggie chili nachos.
Fry onions until soft,
add veggie mince,
add tin of chopped tomatoes,
add cup of boiled water so sauce does not become too dry,
season and add chili powder,
add tin of kidney beans,
allow to simmer,
put into a baking dish with tortilla crisps (cheese ones work best),
add a good quality strong cheddar and put in the oven until cheese melts x

Keepcalmanddrinkwine · 07/06/2014 23:48

My signature dish is chilli. I make it with half beef mince and half quorn, onions, garlic, tinned toms, tomato puree, mixed beans, peppers, paprika, chili powder, fresh chilli and sometimes sweetcorn.

I fry the meat with Flora spray and then transfer it into the slow cooker with the other ingredients then leave it to simmer for at least 4 hours on a medium heat.

Served with rice and a generous dollop of sour cream.

nerysw · 08/06/2014 07:30

Although we love a good roast my new signature dish is macaroni cheese - super easy to make and the best comfort food. I top it with more cheese and Panko breadcrumbs - delicious!

Nottheshrinkingcapgrandpa · 08/06/2014 15:59

Get a large glass dish. Put a few frozen salmon filets on the bottoms, a couple of handful of frozen prawns and a few knobs of butter. Slice potatoes and lay on top. Oven for 45 mins, sprinkle grated cheese with 10 mins to go.

PastaandCheese · 08/06/2014 19:19

Definitely roast beef here.

Toddler DD helps by making up Yorkshire pudding batter and whisking it in massive bowl to prevent splatter!

I use Delia's timing to make the beef medium rare for DH and I and medium on the edge for the DCs.

Really important to give the potatoes a good bash after par boiling to make them fluffy. They are served in my favourite Emma Bridgewater dish that is a beloved gift from a group of friends when I turned 30.

Gravy made in the roasting tin and served in a massive boat we received as a wedding present.

I always make a pudding on a Sunday to be served with lashings of custard. Even tried the Mumsnet microwave pudding last week as I was rushing. Everyone was very happy with it!

Albiebee · 08/06/2014 20:55

We have quite a few favourites here, so hard to choose. Either roast chicken sunday lunch with home-made stuffing and proper gravy and roast spuds, or I do various variations of cheesy pasta bake as comfort food, homemade cheese sauce over pasta, broccoli and cauliflower (or whatever green veg I have, maybe spinach etc), perhaps chicken, ham or bacon in there too, and a layer of cheddar and breadcrumbs on top to go crusty and gooey... yum.

BikeRunSki · 08/06/2014 21:23

I make a fabulous apple crumble. It's based on a recipe we learnt at school, 30 ish years ago. The apple usually has something else with it - a tin of apricots if there are no gooseberries, plums, blackberries .etc around. Or pears. Often sultanas too and a cinnamon stick. Not cloves, DH hates them. I use eating apples rather than Bramleys as they are sweeter.

The crumble topping has oats, seeds -sunflower, pumpkin, sesame - or nuts in, as well as fat and flour. Brown sugar ( but I'll use white if I am out of brown).

I think I "woo"ed DH with this. DS (5) loved it, and it is one of the few dishes he asks for. He's a very reluctant eater, but is enthusiastic about this. It's a great way of getting in one of the 5 a day. I usually have a bag of topping in the freezer, so I can knock one up in no time at all.

tinypumpkin · 08/06/2014 22:32

Veg chilli, rice and a wrap. The children like it more than I thought they would!
