Jackson's Bakery have asked us to find out how Mumsnetters are using bread on a day to day basis.

Here's what Jackson's Bakery have to say: "Here at Jackson's we want to raise public awareness about local provenance and encourage consumers to regularly purchase locally sourced produce. What’s more we want to know how Mumsnetters use their bread day to day and broaden their culinary horizons. We have a collection of recipes on our website but we would love to hear your ideas too!"

What's your favourite way to include bread in your day? Do you start your day with some toast? Or maybe you like having sandwiches for lunch? What's your favourite type of bread? What about your DCs? Do you have to convince them to eat the crusts on their bread, or do they like the crusts?

Do you ever use bread in other recipes? Maybe you like making bread and butter pudding? Or do you use bread for pizza bases? Whatever you use bread in, Jackson's Bakery would love to hear about it.

Everyone who adds a comment will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a luxury Yorkshire hamper containing: Barely Orange Marmalade, Yorkshire Chutney, Gold from the Wold 250ml, Orange Museli with raisins, Hornsey Clotted Cream Fudge and Heather Honey, plus some Jackson's loaves and teacakes (RRP £50).

Please note your comments may be used (anonymously of course) on Jackson's Bakery social media channels and possibly elsewhere.

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw,

MNHQ

We get through tons of bread in our house and its only me and DS! DS's favourite after school snack is toast and marmite. Some days he will eat 4 slices in one sitting!

My favourite bread is crusty olive bread, cut into big chunks and used to dip into olive oil and balsamic glaze mmmm! I have this several times a week, and have to stop myself from eating a whole loaf!

Any crusty bread with butter always goes down well and DS also like French stick pizza, which is the quickest dinner in the works to make and really fills him up. I like French stick with melted gruyere cheese on top, floated in French onion soup.

God I'm hungry now!

Oh I forgot... Sour dough as a bowl with clam chowder inside was a great hut too when we visited San Francisco. I haven't got round to trying to make it here though,

Ooh bread. I love fancy ones with bits like sundried tomatoes in them and toasted into finger slices dipped in olive oil

Our local farm shop has bread delivered daily from a really good bakery. I like the huge cottage loaves, sliced with loads of butter. Also their cheesy bread, eaten just as it is on the way home with soup for lunch.

As for cooking with bread, I love bread and butter pudding and eggy bread, but DH and DC aren't so keen.

Ooh yummy. I love bread, although it doesn't love me.

Thick, crusty white loaf smothered in butter and jam is the best way to eat it! A very occasional weekend treat.

I love tiger bread - preferably a tiger baguette filled with feta, tomatoes, cucumber, olives and parsley. It's a real treat as we normally have brown sliced bread. We buy wraps for DD's lunchbox as they don't go stale as quickly as bread. She loves crumpets for breakfast.

I like a sourdough loaf, failing that a lovely fresh crusty white loaf. I will usually eat some bread every day, maybe some breakfast toast, a lunchtime sandwich or just a thick slice spread with good butter

I used to have a bread machine, and it was great. My toddler was fab at using it and we made all sorts of things in it - granary bread, naan bread, pizza dough, you name it! Then it broke and I went back to making everything by hand. (Once you get used to homemade, store-bought bread tastes dry and salty).

So now I make my grandmother's potato bread for our everyday loaf. It makes fabulous toast, sandwiches, and snacks. I make banana bread to use up all the bananas that go ripe at the very same moment. We have embarked on making hot cross buns because they are my son's favourite, but they are a bit time consuming. Then there's always gingerbread (does that count?)

I like making French toast with my bread but no one else eats that so it's my secret pleasure when DP is at work and DS is at preschool!

Where to start.....I was brought up waking to the smell of bread baking in the Aga as my mother made bread every day. My parent were of the "make everything, grow everything, rear everything yourself generation of the 70s. This extended to understanding the provenance of all: we reared our own calves, we ground our own feed and then yes, our flour, first in a hand mill and then in a larger mill powered by a generator...so while most primary school children slumbered, I was out there with protective mask on face, milling grain. This might have put some off. No. While au pairing in France I made bread every day. I had a small brea and I lasted until age 19 before I could no longer resist the temptation of making my own bread on a daily basis. I no longer grind my own flour but I choose my flour carefully. This may surprise the purists but I love my bread maker - I use it to mix the dough as it does a better job than I do and saves me time to boot. The saddest day was when I found out my sister was coeliac and I decided to cut out wheat from my diet. I still make bread in some form every day for my family and love the process. Pizza, sour dough, ciabatta, wholemeal, pitta bread.....I make sandwiches for my children every day and they comment on the bread batch I have made. They are excellent critics.

My childhood is happily perfumed with scents of drop scones, currants scones, need I torture you further....

Eeeee, are Jacksons still going? I remember them from when I were a lass!

I don't actually eat a lot of bread - maybe a slice or two a day, rarely more, sometimes none. I managed to get hold of some Village Bakery rye bread with seeds, at the weekend, though, and I'd forgotten how delicious it is. I usually like my sarnies with lots of greenery in them, but I've been enjoying simple ones made with just rye bread, butter and cheese, today :o

I love the taste of wholemeal and seeded bread over plain white toasted. But warm bread or rolls straight out of the oven with butter are divine.

My DCs will leave the crusts of toast or sandwiches but with eat all of a baguette

We love bread. Have been buying Jackson's bread since it came in to our local waitrose. We won't buy any other shop sliced bread now.

Thinking about it, we actually eat a lot of bread - bagels or toast for breakfast, sandwiches, ciabatta, toasted muffins, crumpets or tea cakes for Sunday tea or an afternoon snack when the children are back from school. Pitta bread and houmous to dip in lunch boxes. A baguette never makes it home from the shop in one piece, and fresh bread always tempts fussy Dd.

I use bread in bread and butter pudding (yum), blitz up bread that's past its best for breadcrumbs and use for home made fishcakes, make a tuna melt on muffins thing with tuna, ketchup, mayo, red onion, tuna and cheese (tastes better than it sounds honestly). Also going to be making a bread pudding this weekend. It's one of my grandads favourites that I remember from my childhood and I've just found a recipeSmile.

Ooo bread! We love bread in my house. Toasted cheese sandwiches, thick crusty stuff with butter and jam, sundried tomato ciabatta but our favourite at the minute is homemade cinnamon bread with a sugary glaze. It has to be eaten as soon as it comes out of the oven though!

I love a loaf made with Ale, there is a local fakery that makes it using a local ale and it's Devine.

I love trying out new bread recipes, we're big no bread in our house.

I have the problem though that DP doesn't like dried fruit so fruit breads are out, we made a sunflower seed and honey loaf recently and it was really nice.

It also helps to add variety to the kids lunch boxes if the rolls are made with different types of bread. Smile

We also use homemade bread dough for pizza bases, they go down a treat, especially when cooked on the pizza stone in the oven ,the kids prefer them to takeaway pizza. :)

Breathes We love Tiger bread too especially when it is heavily striped and has that lovely salty malty bite to it. It works really well w/ jam to get that salty sweet hit.

We are bread afficionados in this house although DW gets cross with the crumbs from big uncut loaves ;-( (she has a point - they do go everywhere...). However that doesn't stop us from making granary bread in our bread-maker on a regular basis. I love nothing more than the smell of freshly baked bread and what better Sunday evening treat than warm, granary bread with a good bit of mature cheddar and pickle Grin!

Bread is one of the simple but very effective (and tasty) things of life that really we couldn't do with out in our home! We actually don't eat bread often for breakfast (unless we are having a poached eggs/scrambled eggs on toast type of breakfast a deux if I'm off and the children are at school!) but it features heavily in lunchboxes and light lunches at home (nothing better than baguette, French cheese and salad!).

The children are pretty eclectic in their bread tastes although they are always moaning about having brown, wholemeal bread for their sandwiches because few of their classmates do. They are irritating about not eating their crusts though which drives me mad! They certainly used to when they were toddlers!

DW does a Nigella and blitzes stale bread into breadcrumbs which she then freezes for future use. She uses these for 'pepping' up a cheesy topping to a home-made pie, doing schnitzels, making treacle tarts etc.....We don't really go in for puddings in a big way so although we have had bread and butter pudding it wouldn't ever be a staple use for bread in our house. I have always fancied making (but not do it yet) that Italian salad which uses chunks of stale bread (drizzled in olive oil if I recall) - it doesn't sound very appetizing but I am sure with its Italian provenance it would be fab. Gazpacho is another excellent and tasty use for bread too - but usually only made in the summer months here!

We love bread here and are picky about where we get it, it's a drive to the good bakery but worth it! Good bread also makes great breadcrumbs, I always try to dry out the crusts, pulverise them and then bag them up in the freezer, that way I can make homemade stuffing (the only kind I'll eat!) and breaded schnitzels and fishcakes etc too. No need to defrost the breadcrumbs, just use them straight from the freezer.

I also love making home made garlicky croutons for soup. My husband is a toast fiend, with marmite being his poison of choice.

We eat masses of bread & my husband is very particular about bread - he went on a two-day course a few weeks ago on using wild yeast in bread making. We have lots of different sorts of breads here - bagels for the children for breakfast, wholewheat sourdough for toast for him, white sourdough for toast for me, organic baguettes for lunch probably 3 times a week and then other bread with soup. My son comes home from school and has a bagel with nutella on it, my daughter prefers pitta bread as a post school snack.

I like slightly chewy bread. I love eggs florentine with the muffin soaking up all the spinach juices underneath the poached egg & hollandaise sauce.

We both run a lot and do masses of dog walking so that's probably how we get away with so much bread in our diet.

I love to bake and try my hardest to reuse all leftovers (not wasting money must be my tight fisted Yorkshire genes coming out!)

I always blitz bread in the food processor one it's lost it's freshness and pop it in the freezer. I often use the crumbs to coat chicken and fish, add it to stuffing or my personal favourite is to use the breadcrumbs for the filling of a treacle tart for a Sunday treat!!

Big bread lovers in my house! We usually take packed lunches to work so have bread most days - we have loaves, cobs, bagels, wraps, pittas - any bread really. We love going to the bakery for lovely handmade bread but to be honest I'm equally happy with a bit of sliced for a sandwich. We like baking bread but with both of us working full time we don't do it as often as I would like - I do tend do do a nice quick soda bread to have with soup whenever I can though.

I'm experimenting with other bread recipes atm thanks to Paul Hollywood's books so eating far more than I should!

Any leftovers get blitzed and saved as breadcrumbs, made into Panzanella or a bread and butter pudding.

I really love bread. I make nearly all ours in my breadmaker, sadly I am not at home enough to hand bake also everything comes out flat. the children eat the wholemeal loaf but don't like "bits" and sometimes leave crusts. we also use it for pizza. I am watching my weight so ration myself to 2 slices a day so if I have toast for breakfast not a sandwich lunch. above all my favourite is very fresh granary bread.
I've never seen Jacksons for sale but the only shop bread I think is better than home made is from a local bakery called Gaytons in Warwickshire. And local flour from Claybrooke mill at our farmers market.
The children would probably like a less crusty bread for packed lunch so I would look for Jacksons if it comes in below the magic £1.

Our family loves bread!

I bake most of ours myself; we have a machine but I mainly use that to make dough, then bake the loaf in the oven as I don't like the shape of the loaf that the machine produces! I have a kitchenaid mixer and sometimes make dough in that too- when the bread machine dies, I'll just use that.

My usual loaves are: white, white with seeds that I've mixed myself (usually pumpkin and sunflower), malted grain, wholemeal, focaccia; and we also make our own pizza dough.

I love bacon and egg ciabattas as a weekend treat, or just hot buttered toast with marmite, all kinds of sandwiches, toasties, muffins with cheese and beans, pitta bread pizzas... Our dcs love bread too, but at the moment their favourite is shop-bought soft white sliced bread! Grin

We have a breadmaker, but since DD1 was born we do end up buying shop-bought bread about half the time. I love homemade granary bread though, and the smell of it baking is fantastic.

We (3yo, 1yo and I) have a bread- or toast-based lunch most days. Sandwiches, cheese on toast, dippy egg with soldiers, french toast, beans on toast. We buy white bread for french toast but otherwise either 50/50 or homemade granary.

I've made pizza dough in the breadmaker a couple of times. I love bread and butter pudding but I've yet to try making it myself.

Warning: This is not a health food.

Cheese dreams are a favourite in our house. Soft fluffy white bread cheese sandwiches dipped in egg and fried. French toast cheese sandwiches! Children love them.
