Jackson's Bakery have asked us to find out how Mumsnetters are using bread on a day to day basis.

Here's what Jackson's Bakery have to say: "Here at Jackson's we want to raise public awareness about local provenance and encourage consumers to regularly purchase locally sourced produce. What’s more we want to know how Mumsnetters use their bread day to day and broaden their culinary horizons. We have a collection of recipes on our website but we would love to hear your ideas too!"

What's your favourite way to include bread in your day? Do you start your day with some toast? Or maybe you like having sandwiches for lunch? What's your favourite type of bread? What about your DCs? Do you have to convince them to eat the crusts on their bread, or do they like the crusts?

Do you ever use bread in other recipes? Maybe you like making bread and butter pudding? Or do you use bread for pizza bases? Whatever you use bread in, Jackson's Bakery would love to hear about it.

Everyone who adds a comment will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a luxury Yorkshire hamper containing: Barely Orange Marmalade, Yorkshire Chutney, Gold from the Wold 250ml, Orange Museli with raisins, Hornsey Clotted Cream Fudge and Heather Honey, plus some Jackson's loaves and teacakes (RRP £50).

Please note your comments may be used (anonymously of course) on Jackson's Bakery social media channels and possibly elsewhere.

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw,

MNHQ

Love bread in our house. I make it quite often but we also buy sliced (for packed lunch sandwiches), bagels, crumpets (for breakfast), pitta (to go with hummus), wraps (a quick lunch for me with grilled halloumi, rocket and beetroot).

My kids love my flowery eggs. I cut the crusts off a slice of bread, roll it with a rolling pin, then butter one side and press it into a muffin tin (butter side down). Bake at 180C for 10 minutes, then crack in a small egg and return to the oven for another 10-15 minutes until the white is cooked and yolk still a bit squidgy. Can add ham or spinach under the egg if you want.

We love bread here, although bread in desserts (summer pudding, bread & butter etc) is awful, though DH disagrees, will have to try Jacksons b&butter pudding recipe for him/ds1.
We also disagree on white bread, he loves it & won't touch other stuff & I dislike it.
I think we'd probably divorce if we didn't share out the brioche fairly.

Pitta & hummus or baked beans on toast are our go-to quick meals, we usually have sliced white (for DH for work), a brown loaf from the bakers (for DS1 & I), pitta/wraps in the freezer.

What I like doing with leftovers is a nan bread pizza; left over curry (usually chicken something or saag aloo) with extra sauce spread on a naan with roasted tomatoes.

i love bread.so does the family.
fresh bread is always the best.but then again a toastie type white bread is fantadstic for certian things like fish fingers!!
crustie bread is fab for buttys.
we are tradiotional sandwhich eaters.but we use it for other things too.
stale bread is used too.blend into breadcrumbs and use with herbs and lmeon zest on fish.mix with salt and vinegar crips to top a pasta bake.mix with parmasan to coat chicken.
slice baguette onto a mince base or chicken in sauce base.it make a grate topping a pie without the pastry.

we love bakery loaves.there are some great onion falvoured ones.
unfortuantely we dont have a bakery near us.but its a treat when we go away and have a bakery ust down the road who does equisite breads.
the rolls there little plump white rolls are fantastic.

white bread is always chosen over brown for leftover roast meat snadwhiches.
toast and jam is a lovely cosy supper
the kids have always been brought up with the crusts on so havent asked for anything esle.which has been very useful.

Bread is king in our house and I would buy it fresh every day, but we have no local bakery sadly. I use a bread maker and usually do half whole meal and half white flour. Otherwise we buy from the local supermarket 'fresh' bread counter. We all like crusts and I've never cut them off for the children. We buy baguettes too usually at the weekend for bruschetta or bacon baguettes.

Bread in our house is normally scoffed as toast, sandwiches, garlic bread, just bread and butter, with soup... Very rarely goes stale but if it does then it goes into croutons, bread and butter pud, more toast!

I would love to make an italian dish I once had that uses stale bread to make a salad with tons of olive oil and olives and fresh tomatoes. Lush.

we are bagel fans toasted for breakfast as they r so quick, dairylea and ham and everyones fed in a few mins, i prefer a seeded loaf, the kids prefer white, but i try to buy to 50/50 variety and hope they dont notice!

im irish so i make my own home made soda, mums receipe and there is no proving or yeast involved and anyone can make it, delicious for lunch with soup, with a salad, with stew, toasted, real butter and ham,

IRISH SODA BREAD (Super Easy)

350g plain flour
1 and half teaspoons of bicorbonate of soda
1 tea spoon salt
300 ml buttermilk

Preheat oven to 200 degrees c

put flour, bicorbonate of soda, and salt into large bowl, pour in half the buttermilk and mix with a spoon, now add the remaining buttermilk and get your hands in to mix thoroughly until its a thick dough,

lightly flour your work surface and form the dough into a rough round shape, dont work the dough too much, transfer the round to a lightly floured baking tray. using knife cut a cross into the dough about a quarter of the way through

place in the oven for about 35-40 mins until the top has gone brown, to make sure its cooked through remove from the oven and tap the bottom
if it sounds hollow its cooked through,

and then serve with butter or whatever takes your fancy !

this can be frozen but it never lasts long enough

sometime i add grated cheese or some bacon to the mixture depending on whats in the fridge.

My children love bread and currently I'm using the breadmaker at least once every couple of days. We use a milk loaf recipe for day to day bread and my children have this for their packed lunches.

I've made pain au chocolat and cheesy rolls, but rarely use bread in recipes. I've used breadcrumbs in stuffing, but bread and butter pudding is just wrong as far as I'm comcerned! Bread should NOT be soggy. ;)

Garlic bread, tiger bread, baguettes, crusty rolls are all favourites here.

I usually have either sandwiches or something on toast for lunch. I use bread in apricot pudding, for pizza bases and occasionally make naans.

I have recently bought a sandwich toaster and have become obsessed with toasties for lunch.
FYI the classic cheese and ham is my favourite.

I make most of our bread in my breadmaker, varying the type. I often add oats to improve the texture or seeds, sometimes use just white flour or a mix of white and wholemeal. Homemade focaccia is lovely, and pizza.

We have lots of toast and sandwiches.

My favourite type of bread is anything packed full of seeds and grains and goodness! The kids prefer white bread though.

We love using bread to make our own croutons for soup and salads. The kids think they are delicious, Just cut or tear the bread into pieces, drizzle with olive oil and bake in a pre-heated oven for about 10 - 15 mins.

You can also add grated parmesan before putting in oven to get parmesan croutons.

We also love snacking on bread eg with jam or with pesto.

(Brad spread with honey and butter makes a great midnight snack too)

Can't beat something simple like cheese on toast or beans on toast for a warming lunch on a cold autumn day!

If you use good quality bread then it can form the basis of a meal and anything tastes great with it.

We also occasionally bake our own with the kids so they can learn how bread is made and learn the science of yeast and baking.

There is nothing nicer than fresh, crusty white bread, with proper butter, and really fresh vine tomatoes.

Stale bread is wonderful too, and should never be thrown away - blitzed up for breadcrumbs it can go in stuffing, or make a crunchy coating on chicken or fish, or on the top of macaroni cheese. Or you can make beautiful croutons to go on coq au vin.

And my favourite childhood memory is mum's bread sauce, with homemade chicken - creamy, unctuous, lightly salted and with a hint of mace - yum! It is just as good the next day, cold, with cold roast chicken and stuffing in a sandwich on whole meal, multi-seed bread.

We often make a big batch of French toast on Saturday morning. The kids eat it as is, and we grown ups sometime add bacon, blueberries and a drizzle of maple syrup!

I get very cross if I'm making a roast and there's no oldish bread in the breadbin for me to transform into The Best Stuffing on the Planet.

I love making soda bread, it's so quick and easy and you don't have to wait for it to rise - and I throw in random seeds so it always tastes a little bit different (because I'm too lazy to weigh anything!)

Bagels are probably our favourite. Also garlic bread.

French bread and french bread pizza.

toast and sliced cheese also goes down very well.

I like nice sandwiches for lunch, but this requires me to have nice food in the house to put in them

We get granary unsliced bread every week for toast and sandwiches. DH has sandwiches every day for his lunch. For a treat I get cinnamon bagels (have them toasted with butter) and tiger bread. My 11 month old eats white bread which we freeze, otherwise we wouldn't get through the whole loaf in time.
I don't really cook with bread unless you count toasted sandwiches!

Love bread but hate the pappy, sugary cotton wool stuff that most supermarkets sell.

We do make our own in a bread maker but getting a bit slack on the daily loaf. For laziness easiness we use sliced granary or wholemeal for sandwiches, enjoy toasted bagels for breakfast or lunch and have a nice crusty white loaf or rye loaf as a treat at weekends.

We also eat nan bread, tortillas, rolls, croissant, ciabatta, foccacia, croutons etc etc. Dh is from a country where a meal is not a meal unless accompanied by bread so we use it to accompany lots of meals.

Fruit loaf is certainly the most popular bread chez Sparetime, the DCs Hoover it up like it's going out of fashion (DD eats hers with pepperoni, but she's always been a bit oddGrin).
I like wholemeal malted granary with loads of seeds on top for my bacon sandwich at the weekend.
I made vegetable soup for lunch today, ate it with a Parmesan and herb focaccia. Yummy!
I have tried making my own bread, but my house is usually too cold for bread to rise, I've been known to warm wheat bags and tuck the proving loaves into bed to keep them warm!

I love bread! Onion bagel with hazlenut butter and tomatoes for breakfast is my favourite at the moment. I love sourdough, tried making my own but it's not as good as the real bakers make. I also make Hugh's magic bread dough a lot, I usually use it for flatbreads and cook them in the frying pan. I always make it too thick and then it's like wrapping our food in a miniature duvet Grin but a tasty duvet nonetheless.

Toast for breakfast or bread and honey are popular in our house. When small crusts were not eaten but they are now. Everyone takes sandwiches for lunch.

We do one strange thing with pitta bread for a treat - we put a square of 85% dark chocolate in it and toast it and then spread the chocolate!

My absolute favourite was a soft white bread with a flaky crust - either a French stick or a bloomer loaf. Now I have to eat glutenfree bread and make several kinds and experiment with different flavours - e.g. ground almonds, sultanas and cinnamon, or tomato and basil. I also make potato bread.

Scottish loaf. A heavy white bread with dark crust. And Scottish morning rolls, both are hard to find in England.

Allinson stoneground wholemeal, another dense but smooth bread.

Polish rye, nice but no good for sandwiches.

I just recently started a food plan where at the moment I am allowed no bread. It's started a process of clarity where I'm deciding what food is important to me, and rubbish bread is Not It. However I would love some lovely ciabatta, or something with a bit of taste and flavour to it, maybe a quality granary bread, and I'm looking forward to being able to eat bread again so I can choose a bit better. My DH and DD do still eat bread and they enjoy it. I love poached egg on toast.
