Save the Children have asked us if we can help them change the fact that 300 children die of hunger, every hour of every day - even though there's enough food in the world for everyone.

What do you think? There's a petition here which they'd love you to sign - but they also want your thoughts on what they should be telling the G8 (the annual gathering of first world governments), who are meeting next week and actually have the power to change things.

So, if you could change the world so that no child died for lack of food - what would you do? Please do post your suggestions or questions here, and don't forget to let us know if you've signed the petition.

If you want to help spread the word about this via Twitter, Facebook etc - please feel free to use the hashtag: #breakthechain with #G8 if you want.

Thanks
MNHQ

bronze - it says "To keep costs low, we may email you about how you can help our work, unless you tick the box."

@JugglingWithTangentialOranges

MNHQ - For example you could swap this thread with

"Putting on make-up - OK in public ?" in discussions of the day

Or any of the other four vital considerations !!

How about it ?

Hello. And many thanks to all those who are posting, and signing the petition.

Afraid we do have a policy of not putting charity appeals, however pressing and wonderful and worthy, in our Discussions of the Day.

That's purely because we get asked to do this an awful lot but, sadly, there's only limited space and we really don't want to be in a position where we have to choose between charities, or explain to one charity why they didn't get the DOD spot but another very similar charity did.

We have stickied this thread to the top of Active Convos, though, and we have put it in our Mumsnet Latest box over there >>>

@ripsishere

OK, what about gently suggesting to people that they pop over here to sign it. Is that OK?

Sure is - as long as you don't pepper hundreds of Talk threads with your gentle suggestions. Smile

If you do, you might annoy others so much, you could actually stop 'em coming over here to sign it, iyswim.

Good news! Save the Children have been in touch to let us know that, following the G8, David Cameron has decided to hold a World Hunger Summit here in the UK during the Olympics.

They've sent us a statement from their Chief Exec Justin Forsyth:

"With over a hundred heads of state visiting, the Olympics offer a unique opportunity to leave a global legacy beyond sport. By galvanising other world leaders, the private sector, charities, and the public, the Prime Minister can help save millions of children's lives, who are currently facing a daily battle with hunger. This is a fight the world can win, and this is the time to act"

Thanks so much to everyone who signed and/or spread the word via social media - it really makes a difference.
