As you may know we've been working with Oxfam to help promote the Oxfam Get Together. Indeed it was our campaign of the week.

Oxfam say "The Oxfam Get Together is a chance to do something simple but transforming. Host a get-together with friends or colleagues to celebrate International Women's Day, March 8th, and the money you raise will make a vital difference to women living in poverty worldwide".

In January Lauren Laverne hosted the launch of the Oxfam Get Together in London. The evening saw celebrities and influential women come together to show their support and understand more about how Oxfam put women's rights at the heart of all they do. Guests also shared their own get-together ideas and plans. 5 lucky Mumsnet bloggers were chosen to go along to the event, you can read of their fabulous blogs here...:

Oxfam also say "Like celebrities Lauren Laverne, Jane Shepherdson and thousands of others you can host a get-together for Oxfam on International Women's Day and fundraise for women living in poverty around the world. From dinner parties, cocktails with friends, a film night or a quiz night in the community whatever you do just remember to have fun and know that the money you raise will make a real difference".

You can register for your free fundraising pack and find out more at www.oxfam.org.uk/gettogether/register

We'd love to hear about what you've got planned for your Oxfam Get Together but also your thoughts on Oxfam's work with women. You can be a part of the discussion and show your support on twitter too by using the #gettogether. Post your ideas below and/or let us know you've tweeted and you could with £100 of Amazon vouchers!

Thanks MNHQ

ooh interesting - i'm planning a Do but not sure what yet. Possibly a Big Girls Night In. food, wine, music, laughing etc. Need to plan the finer points and learn how to cook.

20SomethingmumUK · 20/02/2012 19:01

I'm planning something everyone can join in with. On the 3rd March from 7pm, I will be hosting an online #GetTogether at Twitter, with some prizes for top tweeters.
From the 27th of this month, over at my Blog there will be a tie in blog topic for bloggers to come up with a post for, with the link open from Thursday.
And finally, the Friday Twiz will have a "Women Rock" theme., hosted by Nickie from Typecast.

So, that's a whole week of Get Together activities you can join in with.

I'm hoping to do a 5k ish jog/walk ending either at my house or a park cafe nearby where I buy the drinks and others give their bit for Oxfam... hmm still sketchy on the details but posting this will make me get more organised. Fattkittens aka Eleanor Mills promised to join me... and she's mentioned it on her blog so it has to happen now:)
Am hoping to convince everyone that the run will be fun... and even if it isn't there's coffee and cake at the end, so that's got to be good? Plus the chance to raise money to train midwives (amongst other things) a cause dear to my heart ever since my trip to Malawi with Oxfam.

HaveYouTakenLeaveOfYourCervix · 21/02/2012 11:00

my badly cooked dinner party plans are stumbling at hefirst hurdle/. My 'friends' claim they are busy that night. I suspect it may have something to do with my renownd catering skills. I shall have to bribe them with Wine

JennyPiccolo · 21/02/2012 11:14

Maybe just do coffee and cake, have you? I did some fundraising for oxfam before and Krispy Kreme donuts were selling to us at cost price to help raise money. Might be worth a phone call.

I haven't organised a do cos one of my close friends has, but I'm a big supporter of oxfam.

AlmaMartyr · 21/02/2012 12:27

Oh, interesting idea, I hadn't heard about this before. I'll ask around some friends and see if people are interested in doing something.

I'm thinking about doing something that links across to the MN campaign on dispelling the myths around rape and sexual violence. (See active convos for the link to the thread.)

EddieIzzardIsMine · 21/02/2012 14:48

I'm a youth worker so will be holding a 'girls-only' session at work, amongst other things we're going to do some cooking and cocktails (non-alcoholic, mores the pity!) and also some educational stuff about how young women across the world live.
Should be a good night, reasons like this I do my job!

katz · 21/02/2012 19:11

there's a lunch at work which diary permitting i'm hoping to attend

ScorpionQueen · 21/02/2012 19:41

I'm hosting a girly sleepover- an eighties coming of age movie, face-packs, wine/non-alcoholic cocktails, mothers and daughters. They will be women one day so I figure a bonding experience with our Teens will strengthen the vital mother-daughter relationship that can become so fraught when they learn to answer back and start to test the boundaries.

To raise a bit of money DD will do a raffle that night and a friend will do beauty treatments for a donation.

Cake sale at work, yes a bit boring but we all love cake so much it seems the right thing to do.
Id love to do a sleepover but the baby doesnt "sleepover" yet so would disturb my guests Grin

aristocat · 21/02/2012 23:38

I will get together with a bunch of girlfriends and we will have cocktails/wine/nibbles with beauty treatments/ manicure. Oooooh just thought , one of my friends DDs is a trainee hairdresser - perhaps she would like to practice that night Smile

Thursday nights are always girls only here .... shame my DD is only 7.

TheTempest · 22/02/2012 09:01

I am a volunteer for a local Community Association and I have a day planned at the Centre with both youth clubs, our coffee morning group, lunch club and various womens groups to have a fundraising day involving the community.

We have so far, cupcakes being made, beauty treatments being provided for free, Zumba lessons hosted by our Zumba ladies and trying to get people involved. A friend of mine is a youth leader so will also be coming along Grin

Looking forward to it Grin

gingercat12 · 22/02/2012 12:29

We can't really do anything on the day, but there is always a flurry of emails going round.

TheCunningStunt · 22/02/2012 13:02

Oooh good idea!! Just read the work that they do and it sounds like they are doing quite a bit for women. Sad though. I am going to bake some cakes at home and then auction them off to friends with wine etc....hoepfully!!

LineRunner · 22/02/2012 13:29

I have just spoken to my nearest Refuge and arranged to collect and box up items that they need for women and children.

The boxes will be collected from the front of the council offices. I am going to ask each councillor to donate one item.

CMOTDibbler · 22/02/2012 14:33

Great idea Linerunner - that sounds like a really practical activity.

That particular day, I'll be talking about cervical cancer treatments - an issue that is a huge problem worldwide

zipzap · 22/02/2012 14:41

Seeing this is the first time I'd heard of this. Will have a look at the info and see if I can think of anything or persuade anyone to do something.

Don't really know many people around where I live unfortunately - maybe this is a good time to be brave and make a start!

mrscumberbatch · 22/02/2012 21:22

I'm having a few friends round and we are embroidering handkerchiefs to auction off at our WI event.

VivaLeBeaver · 23/02/2012 11:05

A friend of mine is hosting a fund raising coffee morning type thing. There'll be cakes you can buy to take home.
