As you may know we've been working with Oxfam to help promote the Oxfam Get Together. Indeed it was our campaign of the week.

Oxfam say "The Oxfam Get Together is a chance to do something simple but transforming. Host a get-together with friends or colleagues to celebrate International Women's Day, March 8th, and the money you raise will make a vital difference to women living in poverty worldwide".

In January Lauren Laverne hosted the launch of the Oxfam Get Together in London. The evening saw celebrities and influential women come together to show their support and understand more about how Oxfam put women's rights at the heart of all they do. Guests also shared their own get-together ideas and plans. 5 lucky Mumsnet bloggers were chosen to go along to the event, you can read of their fabulous blogs here...:

Oxfam also say "Like celebrities Lauren Laverne, Jane Shepherdson and thousands of others you can host a get-together for Oxfam on International Women's Day and fundraise for women living in poverty around the world. From dinner parties, cocktails with friends, a film night or a quiz night in the community whatever you do just remember to have fun and know that the money you raise will make a real difference".

You can register for your free fundraising pack and find out more at www.oxfam.org.uk/gettogether/register

We'd love to hear about what you've got planned for your Oxfam Get Together but also your thoughts on Oxfam's work with women. You can be a part of the discussion and show your support on twitter too by using the #gettogether. Post your ideas below and/or let us know you've tweeted and you could with £100 of Amazon vouchers!

Thanks MNHQ

Right. I have A Plan.

DH, the DDs and the Dogs are off to spend some quality time with MIL.

I am hosting a Girls night in - I will charge a ticket price and cook a big curry. Even I can cook a curry. Probably.

Also going to have a book swap. any leftover books at theend of the night I will take to the local Oxfam Bookshop.

My host pack arrived today (with balloons!) so will send out official invites later.

Now - Who has a good simple curry recipe?

You've all got some amazing ideas! Do tweet about it using the hashtag #gettogether and if you do, let us know on this thread...thanks.

I will be part of a stall in Coventry on the 10th for International Women's day. There will be cake too!

TisPityShesAWhore · 27/02/2012 21:40

I don't do tweeting. it confuses me.

GoingToBedfordshire · 27/02/2012 22:01

Just sent out an email to some friends inviting them over for tea and cake the afternoon of the 8th.

We'll also be doing a book and DVD swap. Idea being we all put a few quid in for the privilege, bring a few novels and films to swap and donate any left overs to our local Oxfam shop.

I must say, I had a call last week from an insanely cheerful woman from Oxfam asking about what I was planning. Think her name was Kelly, lovely woman!

Just tweeted, hoping to raise at least £50.

My NCT girlfriends and I are having a get together at The Maynard Arms in Crouch End, north London for mums, dads and babies from the area. We're having a bake sale (I'm making brownies and peppermint cremes) and toy/clothes/equipment swap, doing face painting and holding a raffle with some great prizes. Join us! 1-4pm at The Maynard Arms N8 on Thursday 8th. It'll be great fun :) Our page is here: uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/mumsatthemaynard

tallblonde79 · 01/03/2012 21:33

PS Just tweeted too!

I have arranged for my quilting buddies to each quilt a square that can then be joined to form a bigger blanket. This is then being donated to the local children's centre to take pride of place in their baby area.

We also have a table top sale of our other sewing goodies to be sold that day at the centre. Any profits from this are going straight to Oxfam.

I'm a youth worker, unfortunately I'm not allowed to raise money without forms signed in quadruplicate three years in advance

It's a music project so I polled the yp on the female musicians they like and will hit itunes for tracks to make a soundtrack.

I was off on annual leave on the 8th so this will all happen on the 15th btw. I'm hoping there's lots of statistics in the pack so I can throw some stuff in about Rights and Responsibilities Wink

Hello,

these events all sound fab. I'm actually a fundraiser for Oxfam and get to hear about all of the fab Get-Together events that are happening accross the country.....we couldn't do it without you!

With fundraising always on the brain, I asked some of my good friends, who've recently all given birth to baby boys, if they would hold a 'Get-Together' for Oxfam. My poor friends had no option but to say yes!

After much deliberation, they decided to host a ?baby café ? on 8th March- and they are inviting mums and toddlers in West Didsbury to join in too.

Last week the Manchester Evening News and the South Manchester reporter decided to do a lovely article on the event and you can have a read of it here.....menmedia.co.uk/southmanchesterreporter/news/s/1487025_mums-the-word-for-three-pals

The West Didsbury mums and toddlers party will take place on the afternoon of Thursday 8th March. If you're from the local area and would like to attend please contact me at [email protected] or on 0161 234 2923

Good luck to everyone organising an event!

swallowedAfly · 05/03/2012 17:09

i have tweeted Smile

sybilfaulty · 05/03/2012 19:51

I had invited 7 girlfriends over to supper on the 8th before I heard the radio ads about the fundraising idea. I've got my pack and am going to ask my lovely girlfriends to make a donation to go to the charity. I shall blow up my balloons and make it a huge celebration of our friendship and what we can do to help women around the world Smile.

PepeLePew · 06/03/2012 07:17

I'm hosting a clothes swap party with my sister. As well as a homeware swap - vases, candles etc that people don't want any more. We are charging an entrance fee, and serving wine and snacks. Am hoping to raise about £100 - was most impressed by the fundraising pack, a lot of thought went into it.

gazzalw · 06/03/2012 18:13

Update, no men allowed at DW's event. It's going to be international food to reflect the diversity of the women going and a fun night in with wine (of course!) and a girlie film!

CheeryCherry · 06/03/2012 22:34

Only just spotted this thread! A colleague and I are having a bake-a-thon and then selling our buns/traybakes/flapjacks/scones on the 8th at work....always goes down well in our staff room. But I love ScorpionQueen's mum&daughter sleepover - what chaos but what fun!

CheeryCherry · 06/03/2012 22:36

Sorry, can't tweet, just don't 'get it' Blush

PurplePidjin · 07/03/2012 13:56

Yay my fundraising pack arrived!! Loads of info I can display, get my youth clubbers interested. I'm still working on my Female Artists compilation Blush

Awareness raising is good, right?

mrspnut · 07/03/2012 14:48

We're having a coffee morning to raise funds and awareness for our local women's aid which is desperately struggling for funding despite having an increasing number of women contacting them.

NoMoreCakeOclock · 07/03/2012 14:56

We are having an international party, everyone is allocated a country and brings a dish from that country, can't wait! It's such a great cause.

TheTempest · 07/03/2012 20:17

I havnt tweeted but a couple of friends have tweeted about our event :)

TheTempest · 07/03/2012 20:17

haven't

PurplePidjin · 07/03/2012 20:26

Stuck into the combined weight of DP's and my joint cd collections. Everyone from Carole King to Nelly Furtado. Loads of awesome role models!

insanityscratching · 08/03/2012 12:37

I've persuaded the HT to let us use the school hall and we'll be having a gathering for coffee and cake.

ElenMumsnetBloggers · 08/03/2012 15:18

A few MNHQers got together for brunch on Saturday and raised £100 - we all donated £5 and raised money from a cake sale. It's great to know that it's going towards helping women around the world - the money we raised could train two midwives in Ghana or 4 teachers in Mali

phdlife · 08/03/2012 20:31

I had a d&c and mirena fitted by a female gyny. Plus there were lots of female nurses in the theatre. Frankly I think I'm most deserving of the dosh Grin
