Hi,

My daughter is doing her GCSE's next year... mocks in a week..

The anxiety is building! We are in full on demand avoidance but she wants to do brilliantly in them all...

My son has ADHD and ASD and did his a couple of yrs ago.. was a complex post covid shit show but he passed English and Maths and now is doing ok on a BTEC so I know GCSE's are not the only way...

Anyone else around who wants to handold/ chat about this journey?

We are beginning to get stressed about results day now... it's so soon!

She's struggling to fill her time in the holidays which isn't helping but she needs this downtime to be recover and prepare for next year.

I don’t think he’s worried per se, only thing he’s worried about is math but only because he doesn’t want to do it in college. He was looking forward to college but the whole having to redo maths is putting a dampener on it for him. I straight up told his college SEN advisor, he might go to the lessons ( only because he has to) but he probably won’t do the work.

I feel physically sick re results day. Dd has awful mental health and I am so worried as she will be totally devastated if she doesn't do well and I fear revision was nowhere near enough.

Also feeling wretched. Just so scared for DS. He says he has done badly. Not really made any decisions about where to go etc as impossible to do so without knowing his results. Good luck everyone.

Wishing you all the best of luck.

This time last year I was convinced DD wouldn't get any GCSES due to attendance or a diagnosis.

Fast forward a year and she managed to pass 5 GCSES. She did the college course she wanted to do. Managed to work whilst she was doing it too although the course meant she was only at College 2.5 days.

From that course and her work experience she's managed to get an apprenticeship, a rather sought after one.

She's also got her diagnosis.

If someone had told me how she would be a year on I would have not believed them.

Just wanted to give you some hope. Tomorrow might not go as planned but life rarely does Flowers

My daughter did good, really well in maths but passed them all...

But... she didn't get what she wanted in English and is really down, I think it's processing leaving school and the finality of it.

She's got to move schools for sixth form and I think is really about this.

I am struggling with not being able to celebrate! It feels with my kids that even when things go well they find it hard and she's so prickly today.

This parenting malarkey is tough!

We got enough here to stay in preferred sixth form so it’s a big ‘phew’!
Well done to all our amazing young people, they have to do so much more to manage 💙

I am so glad we don’t have to move schools, although I think the transition is still going to be super difficult. We were impacted by the change in grade for English- based on last years boundaries she would have had a higher grade. I hope you can manage some celebrating and that the move is better than anticipated.

@Myotis thank you!

We are getting there today... she's beginning to chill and a trip to a Lego shop had helped (although not my bank balance!)

Moving schools is massive at this stage and causing so much pressure... particularly what to wear as its 'business wear' she just wants a uniform!

Business wear!!! DD is thrilled to just be able to not wear school uniform as she’s struggled with it since the start of school. She’ll be full goth 🤣 She’s getting a treat of dyed hair at a hairdressers instead of out of a box.
