Hello,
I have the same question..have you had any feedback about Roehampton Gate School ? Thank you !

KTC40 · 28/03/2023 18:00

Hi, I’m interested in this school too, I’ve spoken to them. My DD (Y4) has ASD, I plan to have a look. It’s had some bad reviews in the past but seems to have improved which is good. Close too as we are in Roehampton 👍

Hi - did anyone get any info on this school? Really keen to hear positives and negatives…

KTC40 · 26/04/2023 20:05

Hi, not yet, my younger DD is having an assessment for ADHD at the priory in May, may try to organise a look round at the same time as they are close. Otherwise looking to apply next school year for DD1, I will have a tour then. I've seen a picture of our local MP Fleur Anderson at the school saying nice things about it (on twitter or Instagram).

There is transport as I quite often see the school mini van going in. We live near by and my DDs go to primary school close by.

Sorry not much help but I have seen a few good reviews from people online, one went to the school.

I may try the app 'Nextdoor' as we are local so I may get some feedback on it. If I do I will post :)

our experience was that this is violent school which chooses to not punish bad behaviour. Real life has repercussions so I do not think this school is adequately setting kids up for life in the real world. We removed our child as his safety was not a school priority and the senco refused to answer if they could keep him safe.
The teaching staff were good and I think my son could have done well academically if he had not been a punching bag everyday that he attended.
The headteacher refused to answer any of our emails or calls.
There was no paperwork or accident report form for any of my sons injuries. We received a phone call to tell us what had happened. He was often put in transport with an ice pack and the driver and carer were not informed of his injuries.
we removed our child with full backing of our local authority. Oh and he was still there at the beginning of last school year so this review would be of the current situation.

lunalunalu · 18/09/2023 20:59

Hi I would love to know more about your sons experience there, especially the pros and cons. It seems that bullying was an issue there? On the other hand how was the standard of education - are they quite academic??

Where did you end up transferring him to instead?

Artistandasdparent · 19/09/2023 07:27

Teaching and academics were good. He is still able to do GCSEs . But they offer very traditional subjects. He is now in a small school in North London. Not sharing the name as he is afraid that the bully’s will find him. Sorry. The violence has definitely left a mark.

Hi, would you be willing to have a chat offline. We think we may be experiencing something scarily similar. I’m very new to number - created an account when I read your post - could you DM me?

R5242 · 10/10/2023 12:46

My son has attended this school for a year and we are looking at moving him. Some staff are very good and he has had some good days but the school is chaotic and children’s behaviour out of control (including mine) My child has been excluded x3 times while other children regularly get into fights without consequences so really inconsistent. There is very little communication with parents and my emails/ calls are ignored. I have also meet with other parents who have had similar experiences. My son spends his day wondering around the school and is not accessing education. He has a complex diagnoses but did really well in his previous specialist primary school. They have good facilities but there seems no will to provide quality provision. Sorry not to share better info. Happy to be contacted - local to the school so also very happy to chat further

KTC40 · 11/10/2023 09:47

Hearing all this negative feedback is concerning now considering ATA Academy with a specialist ASD unit too, any feedback on them? I hear it's very strict but my DD needs rules and routine so that's fine.

My son is very happy there - is like a new boy after moving from a mainstream. School communicates well and helps him with all he needs- overall in 6 month our life changed . I don't need to fear when the school call me no more . They actually never call, just email with the week feedback- is amazing.

That's good to hear, I'm glad your son is doing well Smile, my girl is in Y5 and Roehampton Gate is one I'm thinking of, otherwise Ashcroft Tec Academy ARC unit.

My DD didn't enjoy her school Christmas party today as all the children were pushing in front of her and ignoring her to get the party food so she didn't eat much. She was upset and said she was hungry when she got home (her 1:1 wasn't in today). Your review makes me feel a bit better about Roehampton Gate...she needs small classes...ATA is much bigger...DD much better now with a slice of chocolate cake 😀

Has anyone got more fresh feedback into this school, we are having so much issues with the secondary my child is at the moment, one oversubcribed and waiting list for, and this one is closer and supposed to be specialised, but there are mix reviews, about bullying and such so wondering if things had changed. Child is ADHD/ASD/HLP so needs to be academically good. Any more reviews or ideas of other potential schools around SW. We discarted Ashcroft, Ark, Center Academy, Southfields.

Hi - sorry to be negative but do not go near this school. It’s been a total disaster for my now 15 year old. Academically she’s gone from being a very high achiever to looking at not even achieving 5s in some of her GCSEs. And her mental health is worse than when she was in mainstream. Some of the staff are lovely and care about the kids but the leadership and communication is an absolute shambles. 100% do not recommend. Sorry - I do know how hard it is, but that’s our experience.

Thank you for the honest comment, are you planning on moving out and if so, have you found something promising. We are having so much pain with the current place that we are looking other options, also issue it's that we need something reachable by public transport as I don't drive, or that there is school buses.

HannahFB · 28/11/2024 07:27

We are in between a rock and a hard place as she is 6 months off her GCSEs. So it’s either stay out or EOTAS. There aren’t lots of options in our borough so we are stuck. It’s soul destroying.

R5242 · 28/11/2024 07:51

My son had a terrible experience at this school last year. He was attacked in class by a group of older boys when left unattended. He loved school - he was never a school refuser but the trauma from attending here means he has now been out of school for over a year. A handful of staff genuinely cared but the school is shockingly mismanaged. Full of promise but just did not deliver. My son was off rolled as “they could not keep him safe in school” Our local authority is investigating but being owned by a large private equity firm there seems to be no accountability for their failings.

Hi Sunshineandreign
my daughter has just left after 2 years. A new headteacher and deputy head joined in the spring term and I’ve been impressed so far. Also a school counsellor who seems excellent. All too little too late for my daughter and we are still repairing the damage, but hopefully things will be better for the younger ones now. Time will tell but she has made some positive changes. Definitely worth taking a look, but ask as many probing questions as you can.

Thanks. Will do, was it as violent as the other posts suggest?

I won’t lie, there are violent incidents. It used to be really bad. Lots of verbal aggression too. The new head seems more on it though and violent incidents are dealt with more robustly. The problem used to be there was zero discipline, and way too much unstructured time, so kids were left to roam the corridors pretty much at will, and nobody ever seemed to tell them “no”. Phones were allowed at all times including during lessons which seemed to be an attempt to keep the kids docile. As I say, I think things are improving, and it will be better for the younger ones. There’s now a Zero phone policy, reduction in unstructured time, much clearer expectations and boundaries. But it’s not an overnight process.

Yes I've come across quite a lot of kids left to manage themselves and keep their phones while visiting SEN schools and that really won't work for us. Also the attitude of letting them choose if they feel like engaging in lessons. I understand the theory but in practice it's not going to work in our situation.
