A thread for all who have DC with SN. The thread is deleted and 90 days and doesn’t show in active. The fire is on and the bar is well stocked.

@HedgehogsAgree swapping wasn’t too big a problem for DS1 but he didn’t have the previous experience your DD has, so I can see why you would be nervous.

DS1 can’t take beta blockers, but some find propranolol helpful. Some take it every day, some only when needed.

Thank you for the spelling 😀. Lots to think about but it’s being driven by DD so we must explore.

HedgehogsAgree · 30/03/2026 19:57

@Lougle thats a long day! Are you through it or still driving? How did it all go?

BlueandWhitePorcelain · 30/03/2026 20:05

HedgehogsAgree · 30/03/2026 13:43

Thank you.

@BlueandWhitePorcelain sertraline is an absolute nightmare to come off. This is what made DD bedbound for 3 months with the most horrendous body shocks, unable to eat/wash/talk and every side effect you can imagine. It also took away a lot of function for many years.

That’s the big worry I wouldn’t want to increase fluoxetine and it has little effect but is a nightmare to reduce/come off of.

What about propanol (sp) is that an occasional use for specific circumstances?

Yes, DD had what she called brain zaps for months, coming off sertraline. She had one, coming down the stairs - she fell down the stairs and hurt her back! She never wants to take it again!

My advice to her, was one of the ways to come off clobazam - a 10% reduction every fortnight. Unfortunately her psychiatrist gave her a much quicker withdrawal schedule, which did her no good at all imo! I agree, liquid is the way to go, if you can get it; although I have had a lot of practice with a pill cutter!

Propanolol is for occasional use - anxiety. DD said she just took it PRN and suffered no side effects.

@Lougle thats a long day! Are you through it or still driving? How did it all go?

Just got in! Just about to have some dinner then I might get to flop a little.

DD1 had her care assessment. They're going to start on Thursday. I'm not sure if she'll cope but of course she was all fist-pumping the air and 'I'm so excited' so although I tried to express some caution, I would have looked like an idiot saying 'not sure she'll cope with that...'

HedgehogsAgree · 30/03/2026 20:27

@BlueandWhitePorcelain the brain zaps went on forever and full body tremors. Awful time. How is your DGC getting on? Sill too young to give you a smile yet?

@TrentCrimmsflowinglocks sending white wine over to you and a straw.

HedgehogsAgree · 30/03/2026 20:28

@Lougle lets hope they are clever and make a path for DD1 to cope.

BlueandWhitePorcelain · 30/03/2026 20:50

@HedgehogsAgree - yes, I held her all afternoon to give DD2 a break. I think she’s an easy baby, but DD2 doesn’t think so! She’s only 3 1/2 weeks old, so I expect a proper smile will be a few weeks yet? I have found when she gets herself in a tizz, stroking her head gently calms her down no end! Makes a change from rocking her to sleep.

Babies are so much easier, than either DD as adults!

HedgehogsAgree · 30/03/2026 21:27

@BlueandWhitePorcelain that is very sweet that DGC settles with gentle touch 💕

Lougle · 30/03/2026 21:47

@BlueandWhitePorcelain that's so sweet. DD3's dog is quite needy and she melts if I stroke her over her eyebrows, or down the middle of her 'stop' from her eyes to her nose, or in the crease underneath her ears. It's very cute and the shudder of satisfaction she gives reminds me of the little shuddery sighs my girls gave when they were given calming cuddles as babies.

Squirrelsandhedgehogs · 31/03/2026 12:43

We are just back home from a week in Là Gomera where is was about 20C all week. We did a lovely dolphin and whale boat trip and saw bottlenose dolphins, pilot whales, Bryde whales and flying fish. Also went kayaking along coast, to Garajonay national park, hired a Fiat 500 cabriolet and toured the island, swimming in outdoor pool which has views to á snowy mount Teide and spa 3 times.

Got back to á muddy floor, an extra hedgehog and a mouse cat ate as DD gave chickens enough food for all local wildlife and small leak from bathroom. But lovely to have been away.

HedgehogsAgree · 31/03/2026 20:48

@Squirrelsandhedgehogs lovely! I went across that island on the back of a motorbike 38 years ago, there was only one restaurant. Didn’t they film some of Plant of the Apes there? Do they still have the whistle language to communicate or is it a bit busier now? Glad you had a good time. Lots of whales that’s amazing.

Lougle · 31/03/2026 22:13

That does sound lovely @Squirrelsandhedgehogs!

DD1 has coped really well today. A visit to the beach at 8 am, then Nanny and Grandad's, then a quick trip to the pet food shop. Quick lunch then psychiatrist, followed by physio, then picking up DD2's car from the garage. She was very, very tired.

Tomorrow is a similarly busy day with SaLT assessment first thing, then over to the wheelchair adaptation company to collect her wheelchair that has been fitted with the new assist device, then home for an OT assessment. She's asked to cancel something but it's all really important stuff, unfortunately.

NoHaudinMaWheest · 31/03/2026 22:20

lougle that is a very busy couple of days. I hope DD1 copes as well tomorrow.

Dd seems to have sorted out the issue with her student which is good.

HedgehogsAgree · 01/04/2026 00:54

@NoHaudinMaWheest that is good news well done your DD.

@Lougle so lovey to read that DD1 coped well today. The temptation is to cut out all the enjoyable things in life in anticipation of the important stuff but to get on the beach and see family is also vital for so many reasons. How are you doing with all those spinning plates?

DD had a haircut today and her studying horse couldn’t drink even though it was at the water and wanted to.

Lougle · 01/04/2026 06:36

@NoHaudinMaWheest well done DD! How is DS feeling about his interview?

@HedgehogsAgree it's the hardest time when the horse is willing but it just can't drink. We have that often with DD2. I hope today is better.

I'm really tired, tbh. I was meant to go to my church Homegroup last night and my body just said no. I'm a bit apprehensive about the care agency starting. I haven't met the carers yet, DD1 is always enthusiastic about new thing but it rarely works. I have to try to make sure the dogs aren't a pain, and frankly, DD3's dog is quite needy when people first arrive - nothing awful but just another thing to think about. But I went out and bought some beef ears and I've ordered some buffalo tails, so that will give her something to concentrate on.

I'm in the middle of trying to reject DD2's Motability vehicle. Motability told me to talk to the dealer. The dealer told me to talk to the manufacturer. The manufacturer gave me a case number and that I'd be called within 5 working days. They didn't. I phoned yesterday and they said that because it's a Motability car, it's Motability that have to reject it. So now Motability have passed the case on to an account manager who will call in the next 3 working days. It's just tiring.

Squirrelsandhedgehogs · 01/04/2026 11:44

Thanks @HedgehogsAgree Yes they still use the whistle language, we went to the tourist visitor centre /museum/garden for Garajonay and it had a video on it as well as all the history. Your trip sounds exciting. It was very traditional there and quiet, mainly Spanish and Germans and pretty much all adults. I think Planet of the Apes was Tenerife but we could see a snowy Mount Teide across the sea from our hotel pool. There weren't that many restaurants, we had half board and superb food at the hotel, lots of fresh fish, fruits, local cheeses and chutneys, paella etc. We found some random chickens as well. There was a sandstorm on our day back but otherwise sunny and c20 degrees. Great about your DDs haircut.

We are now sorting out the house from a week of 2 young adults. I have cleaned bathroom and got rid of old bottles and cleared cat nuts and fluff and tuna from upstairs carpets. We have started cleaning muddy floor and trying to sort a plumber now. We need to use dehumidifier in kitchen but asked DD to do it. She put it in there turned it on. DS turned it off. She turned it on. DS turned it off unplugged it and moved it. On plus side he has not walked on lawn seed area though it's not through yet.

Thanks @Lougle Glad your DD1 had a good day. I hope things can get a bit easier.

@NoHaudinMaWheest glad DD has sorted the issue.

@Lougle I hope all the appointments are helpful and DD1 has coped with your second busy day on the trot.

@Squirrelsandhedgehogs lovely photographs.

It has been a long day.

BlueandWhitePorcelain · 01/04/2026 17:29

@Squirrelsandhedgehogs - lovely photos. So jealous you got to see a whale!

NoHaudinMaWheest · 01/04/2026 19:44

squirrelsandhedgehogs great to see lovely photos. Glad you got away and enjoyed your trip.

lougle I hope the carers' visit goes well and they get DD1.

Ds's job interview is tomorrow. He has seemed quite chilled about it but last night woke me up with a terrific scream as he had had a bad dream which is really unusual for him. Then this morning he said he should probably asked for the interview questions in advance as a reasonable adjustment but it was now too late. I feel I bit guilty that I hadn't prompted him to do this but he seemed quite in control of the whole process and TBH I had forgotten that questions in advance was a thing. So we will see how things go.

Squirrelsandhedgehogs · 01/04/2026 20:00

Thanks @NoHaudinMaWheest Hope the interview goes well.

Thanks @BlueandWhitePorcelain There were a lot of whales there, mainly pilot whales and a couple of Bryde whales. I hope you get to see whales sometime, I think sometimes you can see them in the UK but I've seen them in Australia and La Gomera now. I wish DS could have seen them, he always had a flying fish obsession too and we saw 3 of those. He was with us in Australia and we saw about 150 whales and dolphins there and the whales there were huge and leapt in the air. These ones were smaller and stayed in the water.

Thanks @ExistingonCoffee Hope you can get some rest.

Have cleaned upstairs and done living room and dining room so just kitchen and downstairs bathroom to go which should do tonight or tomorrow. We have identified the leak source, its pipes in vanity unit and hopefully have a plumber coming tomorrow to sort. DS went walking in the garden so managed to have boiler on for a few hours and dehumidifier which helped dry things out. Noticed the silkies are pecking at the lawn seed. 🤔May need to go to turf. But will give it another week or so to see. DD has 1 or 2 more rowing camps and has been working on her punting jobs. We will next have cleaner in a week's time, didn't have them when away or this week until we have pre cleaned.

Lougle · 01/04/2026 21:41

@ExistingonCoffee I hope your long day has its end in sight.

@Squirrelsandhedgehogs that looks idyllic!

@NoHaudinMaWheest I do hope they use reasonable adjustments to help your DS perform to his best ability.

A long day here, too. Final SALT assessment this morning went fairly well. DD1 didn't cope brilliantly, but that's helpful in this context.

The wheelchair assist handover at lunch time went well but we've realised that one detail not shared was that the (permanent) bracket for the system is located in such a way that it prevents the back of the wheelchair from folding. So the chair doesn't fit in the car as it used to, and it took us 20 minutes to find a way of getting the chair, the Light Drive and the Track Wheel in the boot.

OT assessment was a bridge too far and DD1 only managed a few minutes before declaring that she needed to go to bed. The OT got what she needed from me.

As soon as the OT left, DD3 was expecting to go to the beach.

I'm glad to be home!

NoHaudinMaWheest · 01/04/2026 22:09

lougle that is a long day..Wheelchairs and cars are such a pain. I hope the solution is workable on a regular basis.

existingoncoffee I hope you are getting some rest at the end of your long day.

hedgehogsagree hope tomorrow brings more energy for Dd.

HedgehogsAgree · 01/04/2026 22:33

@RavenLaw can I pick your brain please? DD is having trouble with what is Harassment. She knows the rules about frequency of acts, 2 incidents, time periods etc but is struggling as it’s unclear if eg messages, phone calls, sending unwanted gifts, turning up outside place of work etc is all Harassment she can’t find a definitive list or definition.

DD has found some energy tonight!

<waves at everyone tiredly >

desperately tired here but term is done and holidays are here. Except not really holidays as I have to empty a small barn(large shed?) and sort Easter for 12. I keep telling myself I’m good at this stuff but I feel very tired (though @Lougle reading your days makes me get sympathy exhaustion. Joe DO you do it?).
Holiday pics look lovely.
i went to an exercise class this week. It definitely cheered me up. Ds is grey and dazzle eyed so i expect it’s going to be difficult again. I must pay bills. There’s a joy in jobs that finish neatly.
