Aggressive posting on this board

For at least the third time in the last couple of days, I have seen aggressive, incongruous posts on this board from posters I do not recognise (save for their argumentative interventions on the AIBU board).

Do you think this board is being highlighted from the main board in a different way or that we are appearing in active convos or something different?

I've been posting here for two years and I have never seen these type of judgmental posting.

This is not the AIBU board. We pride ourselves on offering support and advice. Sometimes a little 'tough love' is needed or the advice is 'get a grip' but we don't judge each other and try to undermine people's posts.

Legitimate points can be made without having a go at people.

NO
no seperate board,
Ok honest truths here,
yes it does, but imo because that is where the support is needed.
so that is the way it should be........

now what I think we need is a chat thread,
we need to re group and meet each other and have a laugh

Oh Riven...I can see what you mean. You are very non-judgmental.

It is good that we are all on the same board too but didn't want to think we were just making life impossible for others with constant ASD threads - often about school/statementing.

2shoes - that's a good idea!

fwiw I am certainly not questioning the central dilemma of the OP ie the question of exclusion and discrimination by the school. What wound me up, and what I later became confused about, was part of the background. And whilst the central issue seemed to have been resolved as far as the particular, current, problem was concerned it might no doubt crop up again. The reason I was reading in the first place was, as I recall, the fact that the title was 'problem with school' or something like that, ie not detailing ASD or ADHD.

riven, I know what you mean, I get lost on the CP boards, I joined some before mn, cos dd doesn't fit in any of the "normal" cp boxes.
i rememeber the dark ages too, no pc.....what did we do?

I answered you here riven

debs40 · 20/05/2010 11:04

I completely understand Riven. My brother has cerebral palsy so I have a bit of insight although I know it is not the same.

Not having a separate board has really opened my eyes to how many issues in 'autism' are common in other children with other dxs. I think there is a danger sometimes of building autism up into something more than it really so being on a common board helps with perspective. Some have evens suggested that toe walking in autistic children (mind doesn't) is a mild form of CP ?

One thing I noticed when I first came on MN was that there is actually a much less-used Topic for SN Education. Some people post on there with relatively few replies. I stopped looking much when I realised things are much more comprehensive under SN Children. However, quite a lot of the ASD/AS threads in particular are in fact education-related. Not sure what the solution is because actually I personally like having it all under the same 'roof'. I also spend too much time reading lots of posts, not just the ones I think might relate to our situation, I find it really helps me and opens my eyes to what is going on for everyone else. However I need to get a grip and get on with something else I think

2shoes · 20/05/2010 11:24

see I always think SEN topic is more for your not so sn stuff.........
like ds, he had an IEP and a hearing inpairment , so I would have posted on SEN about him.
but dd has CP and has SN so I post here..
hope that makes sense

Davros · 20/05/2010 14:25

A small moan here. I wish people would be more specific in their thread titles as I just ignore those that say "help" or "need info" unless i have lots of time to spare. Also I am anally retentive about such things and like to see everything labelled and set out clearly
When I joined MN 7 years ago there wasn't any imbalance between ASD and other disabilities/SNs, just shows how times have changed as the balance is very much more ASD than other disabilities now, not just accounted for by more users.
Now I will go away and arrange a few cupboards.

Thank you Star

I must admit to some paranoia though mustn't I, in instantly thinking it was me (or is that ego-centrism)? Would be lying if I said I'd never been in a barney on AIBU, although I have learned to steer clear of some of the more crackpot and vicious ones. My other problem - whilst I totally agreed on the plastic water bottle front and had already nearly waded in there with some variant of 'you need to get out more often', I then thought of the amt of time I spend on such threads as Ashes to Ashes..

As to appropriate subjects for this 'topic' then maybe sometimes something could be elsewhere. But whilst eg ear grommits (I only say that because it's on now) might seem trivial the OP is concerned about possible hearing difficulties which can obviously have repercussions in all areas. But yes maybe more specific titles - although a new poster wouldn't know that.

sugarcandymountain · 20/05/2010 15:28

I wonder if we could agree to introduce a convention to add a dx/general issue in brackets after the thread title, e.g. 'School problems (ASD)' or 'Help' (CP)?

It is a bit inconvenient to have to click through for things to find out what the thread is about, especially if I'm on my phone and it takes longer to load. It's not that I don't care about issues that my DS doesn't have, but I don't feel I have much knowledge or experience to comment on them.

The problem that I have is that DD has multiple problems! She has ASD, dyspraxia, speech and language difficulties (which is part of the ASD) and Microcephaly, which I have been told by the Paed, is the root cause of her multiple problems.

I find that the ASD predominates, in terms of how it affects her daily life, but there are also the co-existing difficulties too, which seem to be greater than the sum of their parts, in terms of their impact.

sugarcandymountain · 20/05/2010 16:34

True, DS has multiple dx too. We need a tagging system really, with colour coding for each dx and different fonts for SS/statement/NHS.

amberlight · 20/05/2010 16:48

1 in 64 (ASD)

2shoes · 20/05/2010 16:59

sorry riven
