What exactly do they do please. I was told on here that i should get the Ed Psyc involved but have now been told by the school that the Ed Psych isn't 'interested' as if his problems are ASD related she has nothing to do?

She has no plans to assess him even. Though i have said i want him assessed, and fully plan to follow up the request with one in writing just so they can't magically forget i said it!

As an aside, who is on our side? When everyone else wants to do as little as possible and ignore what is going on because to admit it would mean more work for them?

I have on here thank god, but what if i didn't have online?

What happens to those kids whose parents take the first no as gospel?

Well aparently this happens, it's just i've never been told there was a need for it.

My cynical head says that shouldn't all children know what they are supposed to be doing in a group?

And shouldn't the teacher be ensuring that any child is not left out.

My problem is i don't know if they are waffling so it looks like they are doing something or he has this much support and felt no need to tell me about it!

I don't know who is facilitating it, but that will be one of the questions i ask.

The summery also said that his teacher said there were no current questions in regards to his support needs in school, and that the strategies in place are successful.

LOl It also said that ed psych does not have a role in the diagnosis of developmental difficulties and his parents should explore this with medical professionals, clearly 5 years of exploring isn't quite long enough.

From the school i pressume, that will be an interesting conversation...

I'm hitting a wall again and am struggling to remember why i'm bothering..

That sounds awful but all the qestions followed by waffle followed by more questions followed by a large dose of patronising just get too much.

Thanks Star!

It doesn't matter how nice i am about asking for info, they are uber defensive and so see parents asking for info as a major slight.

SMART targets?

This is hard for me to fathom tbh as school have always insisted there is no issue there...

At home we are bumbling about not sure how to deal with anything much.

Sometimes i feel the issues are really small and can be dealt with fairly easily, then i hear that his peers tend to find him 'weird'

Sorry i'm waffling myself but it all feels like such a struggle for what at the end of it?

I am going to do that, well i was going to send a written request for assesment, but your idea works better and is less agressive.

I think though that the answer i get back will be pretty much what this letter said and just as vague eg, he is making good progress, good progress in relation to what?

I feel your frustration spiced. On another thread Amberlight suggested I have a look at the Lamb Report. It strengthened my resolve to keep on the schools back recently when I felt like just giving up. Simliar to you lots of sound bites / conflicting information. My ed psych head were on the same side and it wasnt my ds's side. 9 months after she should have done it son is back on list to have a full ed pschy assessment - 9 months ago I was told he didnt need it its budgets and misinformation all the way.

  1. Can he make recommendation that ds be assessed by Ed Psch! (if not why)

I also made a booklet listing all the problems and took it with me to all appointments. (you are more than welcome to have a copy, if you think it might help you)

Once you start to write things down, questions become more obvious.
