Would anyone be interested in a meet?

I've read several posts recently where people have spoken about the isolation and loneliness of parenting child/ren with SEN and feeling like you don't belong. Would anyone be interested in setting up some regional groups for adults to meet up, say once a month, for a coffee, or a drink and a chat with parents in the same boat? It would be a good way of letting off steam and sharing tips and knowledge and having a bloody good moan if need be!

I'm a bit protective about what I post on here in terms of personal info that could identify me - e.g. where I live, but would be happy to do through TTR if anyone else is keen.

I do all the time. It's my place to vent apart from here!

:( She is very ignorant if she thinks someone's parenting can cause ASD. They are either born with it or born with a predisposition to it and then something triggers it off. Angry What exactly does she think you are supposed to have done to cause it?

redhappy · 21/08/2010 11:52

Well the articles were about controlled crying, non-responsive mothers and the stress hormone cortisol, and how that can cause slow learnign in babies and other 'disorders' (not specified)

nappyaddict · 22/08/2010 12:54

LRB, bullet, redhappy and connersmommy are you able to do the 4th or 5th September instead?

LRB978 · 22/08/2010 13:12

Yeah, not a problem here.

redhappy · 22/08/2010 21:33

Not sure yet with the new job, but will keep an eye on here to see what you arrange, and if I'm not working I will be there!

Hi, am in Hackney (waves at Lauree, although about to move to Waltham Forest) so am up for a London meet-up--am a bit confused about what's happening so could someone kindly email me at bergmann dot grainger at bt internet dot com

bullet234 · 23/08/2010 13:28

Yep, those dates should be fine.

mel1981 · 23/08/2010 22:58

Im Hampshire -nr soton. I dont drive but if theres a meet up I could get hubby to drop me & Ds off if hes able to. :-)

LRB978 · 30/08/2010 21:52

Hi all, unfortunately I dont think I will be able to do a meet up this week/end - putting ds to bed tonight I discovered he was covered in red spots, looks very much like either impetigo or chicken pox, either way I dont want to risk passing it on. Will know for definite once Ive seen the doctor tomorrow, but at the moment it looks like the pre-planning curse has struck again (I only get to do things on impulse, plan and something stops it happening)

hidetheelephant · 05/09/2010 13:40

No problem LRB shall we rearrange for next weekend or the weekend after?

hidetheelephant · 05/09/2010 15:20

Or would the Monday or Tuesday of October half term be better?

(BTW It's NA)

redhappy · 06/09/2010 17:07

That would be fine for me. Can't do Mondays as I work now, but the Tuesday shouldn't be a problem

LRB978 · 06/09/2010 18:56

Sorry I haven't replied before - Any weekend is fine, or if at half term I would need it to be Friday (or Saturday or Sunday) unless I can get the Tuesday off - will have to check the rota at work tomorrow and see who else is off that week

Love the new name btw :)

fullstop · 06/09/2010 22:03

Hello

I might be late for joining in on the meet-up (I'm usually late for everything!) but I'd love to join in. I'm down in London - the west but will travel!

M x

Birmingham
fab idea

is the meet actually happening?

hidetheelephant · 07/09/2010 00:14

LRB What are your usual working days?

LRB978 · 13/09/2010 22:43

Sorry, I missed this. I work Monday to Thursday, and am busy those evenings as well (gets a bit manic here at times), but am free every Friday and weekend. But if everyone else fits mid-week better then go with that, if I can get the time off I will, if not I will meet up next time :)

Sorry it's short notice but I am going to an Autistic screening at the Odeon cinema in New Street, Birmingham this Sunday. Doors open at 10:45 and the film starts at 11am. Tickets are 4 pound for kids, 5.50 for adults or free if you have a cinema exhibitor's card. If not they have forms you can fill in but not sure if you'll be able to get one the same day. They leave the lights on, have the sound turned down and the don't bother with adverts and trailers.

nappyaddict · 30/09/2010 18:05

Forgot to say, let me know if you want to come and we'll arrange a time and place to meet. Feel free to bring friends, family, siblings etc along.

nappyaddict · 30/09/2010 18:16

Oh we are also going to ITNG live at Cannon Hill Park 10th October at 2pm. Tickets are half price so makes them 10 pound each here

bullet234 · 30/09/2010 18:50

Well I did think I could make the Sunday cinema trip if someone had met me and the lads at the train station. However, thanks to the ridiculous tripe of the train companies who have decided to have what is normally a direct 40 minute service changed to over two hours with two changes I can't Angry.

nappyaddict · 13/10/2010 15:18

How annoying. You should try and get all the locals to write a letter of complaint and a petition. They might put it back on if there's enough demand for it.

For everyone else the next one is 7th November. They won't know what the film is til the Monday before but they are always children's films.

They are called "Autistic screenings" but the manager said they are suitable for anyone with SN or learning difficulties that affect their behaviour and concentration. He used Down's Syndrome, Fragile X, GDD, ADD, ADHD, PDD, SPD, SID as examples.
