I think that your very wise betty, people in different cercumstances have different opinions. consenting for my dd to have the jab was not something that i to lightly, i've had 2 sleepless nights wondering if im doing the right thing.

the gp did not send out a nurse, she was from community peads

"I think that your very wise betty"...why the defensive sarcasm???????????? all I am doing is giving my opinion, no more, which I am perfectly entitled to, as are you with yours. Your decision is obviously the right one for you.
And I have no idea about community paeds, although I assume they also are employed by the health service, therefore the government. Normally people tend to be in professions involving schools etc.

MumOfThreeMonkeys · 23/10/2009 19:10

there was no sarcasm intended betty - i do think your very wise in your desision, i am not sure that i am in mine- she has the vaccine now and i cant take it back, just hope i made the right choice- only time will tell, as i said in an earlier post its a gamble with are childrens health - sorry if you think i was being rude truly i was not being sarcastic

if the health service are giving jabs just to make money, well i think this is a very sad country to be living in. hoping its not true.

Apology completely accepted, apologies to if I came across as little miss know bloody everything...believe me I don't! And I have had my fair share of sleepless nights too, us mums never know what to do, do we

bettywobble · 23/10/2009 19:16

As far as I have been told, they are making the most of a "situation" and using it to thier advantage, really makes you wonder...

MumOfThreeMonkeys · 23/10/2009 19:22

its a sad situation, i have to say that there was a big turn out today at dd special school for the jab, but then again people were only give 3 days to make a decison

OP posts:
bettywobble · 23/10/2009 19:28

Is that all you had to decide? How awful, if I wasn't sure, I certainly couldn't have made up my mind that quickly.

MumOfThreeMonkeys · 23/10/2009 19:40

well, i got the letter on wednesday on the same day that three people died here from swine flu and two of the three were children that attended special school. that makes three children from special schools in northern ireland to die in a week. that sort of made my mind up for me and i think most of the parents. the opinon of parents and teachers today was that we were all very lucky to get the vaccine so quickly

I'm not sure its been tested enough if my Son SN school decided to do it he probably would refuse it he is terrified of needles after being held down to try and give him anesthetic when he was assaulted and had his mouth slashed at 8. But a local 17 year old and her unborn baby were buried yesterday she was 8 months pregnant its these vulnerable groups that worry me.

MumOfThreeMonkeys · 24/10/2009 10:40

its a big risk, dd was fine after the jab, no temp or anything- just a matter of keeping my fingers crossed. not a great situation

Does anyone know if all children in special schools in England will be offered the vaccine? We haven't heard anything from school and I would like my daughter to have it.

Thanks busybeingmum, my daughter isn't vulnerable healthwise but is non compliant with medication so I would rather she had it. She does mix with more vulnerable kids too.

Will have to beg our GP if need be.

Parmageddon · 04/11/2009 21:35

dd2 goes to a SLD special school in England but we've heard nothing about vaccines from them yet. I rang GP for advice and they will vaccinate her - on Friday if I want... Hate these decisions...

herjazz · 04/11/2009 21:52

dd is having hers tomorrow

MumOfThreeMonkeys · 05/11/2009 08:33

good luck herjazz, i think i made the right decsion, under 10's have to get 2 vacines 3 weeks apart so dd is getting her second one next friday the 13th

OP posts:
herjazz · 05/11/2009 20:55

thankyou. It went ok. Yes another one in 3 weeks

I've had secondary bacterial infections this week after viral illness so that kind of pushed me to go for it

PheasantPlucker · 06/11/2009 11:55

Totally with you, Herjazz.

heartinthecountry · 08/11/2009 09:20

This was sent to me by a friend. I don't post it here making any judgement either way about whether parents should vaccinate or not. I just found it useful information in making my own decision. I can't vouch for it's validity though I imagine the 'facts' about what is in the vaccine are correct, if not the conclusions about their safety. Also, it comes from Canada so I am making an assumption the vaccine in the Uk is the same.

"First of all, this H1N1 vaccine has not been adequately tested for safety, and has been rushed to the market. We know nothing of auto-immune or neurological complications that may be associated with it (please see below).

What we know is that the vaccine contains thimerosol which is a derivative of the toxic metal, mercury. Since no amount of mercury is considered safe to ingest, this already is concerning. Mercury levels in the body can cross into the brain, making humans more prone to autism and other brain defective diseases.

There is also an additional ?adjuvant? in this vaccine that hasn?t been fully tested for safety although Toronto?s Public Health Officer calls is ?safe?. There haven?t been any long-term studies performed to prove it?s safe, and plus, pregnant women will be offered the vaccine that does not contain this adjuvant. This tells us something already. In this adjuvant is ?squalene oil?, which has been shown to damage the brain?s immune cells called ?microglia?. This prolonged damage can lead to multiple sclerosis, Parkinson?s disease, ALS, and encephalitis (brain inflammation). This ?adjuvant? also contains ?GP 120? which rests itself on the surface of our white blood cells (our protector and killer of invading agents), and allows for foreign agents to enter the white blood cells, decreasing their efficiency to kill viruses, bacteria, fungi, etc. This makes us more prone to catching other illnesses."

Do you really think it is helpful to post this on a thread where many people have already vaccinated their children?
