I agree Mumof3, our school had a pupil with SF, thankfully she was fine and is back at school. We are all very worried about the more vunerable children.

sorry don't really know, we just got a letter from the school(copy sent to doctor) saying she should have it.
best thing is to ring the gp

slightlycrumpled · 21/10/2009 18:22

We were at the GP's today and he said he had just recieved a letter today stating that the vaccines will bew available in two weeks at the surgery. He then said he would write to all that are most at risk (includes me I guess as am pregnant) then, so I guess they will write in time.

The school (mainstream) called us a couple of weeks ago to say they had some suspected swine flu cases, and the sleepless nights that followed confirmed for me that he should have it.

It is such a difficult one and a couple of weeks ago I was saying no way, but was at docs as he has another chest infection, so for him I think, hope it's the right thing to do.

So very sad that another child has died.

MumOfThreeMonkeys · 21/10/2009 18:57

busybeingmum Im in northern ireland and it was just anounced this week after the death of a girl with cp, that all children that attend special school for severe learning difficulties will get the jab- so dd is gonna get it in school on friday, this has nothing to do with the gp's, don't think the gp's are recieving the jabs till next week.

Having nursed dd2 through severe pneumonia last year, I do not want a repeat of that so she has already had the normal flu jab, and the pneumonia one, and should probably have the swine flu one too if offered it.

Don't like the rush, though. But I'd like swine flu even less.

Davros · 22/10/2009 07:35

I suppose they are rushing to do it before Half Term? I've had nothing from DS's school but it is ASD-specific and he specifically is as strong as an ox, rarely unwell. But I take immuno-suppresants so will definitely be offered it and not sure what to do. Had usual flu jab last week as always for last 10 years or so.
Do you all know that flu jab is available free to all Carers but Swine Flu jab is NOT being offered to Carers and there is an outcry about that. Frontline health care workers will be offered it and many don't want it, Carers will not be offered it and many DO want it

Marne · 22/10/2009 13:32

2shoes- i think you are doing the right thing, a week ago i said my dd's won't be having the jab but i think now (after both dd's being so ill this week with a similar virus) if offered they will be having it.

BobbingForPeachys · 22/10/2009 13:35

Thank goodness we've already ahd it so don't need to worry about this one really- can aovid with no real concerns. Phew.

Child in ds3's class has been hositalised with SF and is still off after 3 weeks, poor thing.

Marne · 22/10/2009 15:22

Our local special needs school closed last week (for the week) after some pupils came down with SF (they did have a few cases of the winter vomiting bug too), i think they did the sensible thing.

sphil · 23/10/2009 13:00

I've just read an article which says that people are being asked if they're allergic to egg before they have the jab - is this true? Because DS2 is

Those who died from supposed "swine flu" all had medical conditions already btw. And rather than the gov dumbing down swine flu, they have hyped it all up. What about other mutants of swine flu? They could kill. Or pneumonia. We aren't all being told to be vaccinated for those are we? Plus the docs get paid for each vaccine they give out, so obviously this is why they would scare-monger, to get more money for their practice. Why would anyone want to inject something into their childrens bodies(or themselves) that hasn't been fully tested? What about the long term risks? Nobody knows what the vaccine will have done to the body long term. Look at all those poor women that were injected in the 60's with some vaccine (i forget what it was for) and gave birth later to babies with no arms or legs. Won't be me, sorry.

I stand corrected, I thought it was given in a vaccine form. But I knew it was for morning sickness lol

Davros · 23/10/2009 16:39

All carers can get a pneumonia jab and yearly flu jab. But you probably need to make sure your GP practice has you down as a Carer.

MumOfThreeMonkeys · 23/10/2009 18:03

"Why would anyone want to inject something into their childrens bodies(or themselves) that hasn't been fully tested?"

well call me a bad mother but i got my dd injected at 10.30 this morning- dunno about gp's making money out of vacines cause she got it done in school- do they pay the school?

OP posts:
MumOfThreeMonkeys · 23/10/2009 18:05

OP posts:
Psychotrace2 · 23/10/2009 18:07

i dont want dd having it either!

bettywobble · 23/10/2009 18:25

"well call me a bad mother but i got my dd injected at 10.30 this morning- dunno about gp's making money out of vacines cause she got it done in school- do they pay the school?"-the health service IN GENERAL...as in RUN BY THE GOVERNMENT...as in the ones doing the scare-mongering.
And you wouldn't want to get vaccinated against morning sickess, just the same as now we know that we wouldn't want to take thalidomide against morning sickness...IT HADN'T BEEN TESTED.

K...[WINK]
No need to shout! everyone has different opinons, mine is that i dont believe that the government is giving out swine flu vacines to make money.

OP posts:
bettywobble · 23/10/2009 18:37

True, we all are entitled to our own opinions, just making the point that I for one will not be injecting a substance into my child which has not been thoroughly tested, and therefore we cannot know what damage it will do to them!

bettywobble · 23/10/2009 18:40

Also, the government pays each GP practice per vaccination given out, so the GOVERNMENT is not making money, the GP's practices are by vaccinating as many people as possible, and who better to target than pregnant people and mothers of children who obviously want to do the best for their child. And before it gets asked(again), no, the school does NOT get paid, the GP practice who sends the nurse out does.
