ah see on cars Ds come out as severe lot to do with being non verbal ,but he does not have asd according to proffesonals not that they ever tested him.He has a social and communication disorder is latest label

misscutandstick · 31/08/2009 08:21

i agree mrs turnip it is a bit crude, also agree with Grumpy it does seem more biased towards certain aspects.

I did DS5 (3.3y) and he scored 42 - but i left out the non-verbal bit as i really feel that his total lack of speech is more to do with his brain damage and dyspraxia than his autism (as he can and does sign, but verbally only makes the same 2 or 3 noises), and he is developementally delayed (again due to brain damage) which would impair intellect (so i left that score out too) wether or not autism was present.

I feel that his intellect and use of (signed) language his is comparable to his mental age/ability (12-18mth). Its hard to judge what sort of scores he would have, if it was just autism on its own. Obviously its a mixture of all his problems that one crude test is trying to judge, its simply not possible to get an appropriate score.

But i feel that DS5 is on the 'moderately severe' end. Mrs Turnip, im willing to take part in anything if its helpful too.

I thought ds was milder (apart from language) than his result suggests ... what do I know though

ds2 scored 33.. so why can't i get him to leave the bloody house today!!

He is still in his pants, pacing up & down in the hallway crying saying he's not going out.
So is this more anxiety/OCD type disorder which was his original dx & less autism??

I don't think the test is shit as such but it's not really designed to be subtle iyswim.

phlebas · 31/08/2009 11:50

ds actually scores lower on GARS which surprised me (& the vast majority of points was in the language section). I'm back to the what does it matter anyway position today ...

Sounds perfect to me Pipin.

I'd love these people (HCPs) to stop finding a billion & one different ways to diagnose ASD & put some more time/money/attention into what to do about the difficulties our children have.

I am exhausted by the fact that no-one really gives a shit about my ds (or indeed about how we're supposed to cope after having it dropped on us). We're the only ones doing anything to help him

I'd like some idea of what I can expect over the next few years - ds (2.10) has just (last few weeks) started walking on tiptoe; is there more to come - will he start stimming, obsessing, become aggressive, meltdowns?

StarlightMcKenzie ~ are you considering using CEIEC (D. Fenemore) as a ABA consultant?

re GARS there's one here - the original one I think, not GARS-2, I don't know how different they are.
