ds saw a rubbish bag and asked what banana was in there for

i said "its broken"
ds "why's it broken
me "i dropped it"
ds "why drop it"
me "because i was cleaning"
ds "what you cleaning"
me " the side from your party"
ds "why party"
me "it was your bday"
ds "why bday"
me "because you were 4"

i then changed converation as didnt think he'd stop but my goodness what and why questions all at once and he has since asked why for a few more things too

why's it raining
why's it cold

im so proud of him

You may wish he'd never started it though after answering endless repetitive questions.

bubblagirl · 28/04/2009 15:17

lol ive noticed him a few times with the constant but i do feel proud never thought id ever have one of them conversations with my ds

i was always jealous of the but why questions and just thought with ds and his ASD he didnt get what , where , when or why and last few days seems to be aware of these now

proud mummy moment but i can see that i will have to remember this proud moment when his continuously asking me lol

I almost cried there I was so happy for you and your DS BBgirl!! It makes me more optimistic about my DS's linguistic future (fingers crossed)

bubblagirl · 29/04/2009 14:47

oh sc13 he is coming along well i never thought we would get here but we have took along time but from 3 half he has just kept improving but with the melatonin allowing him to sleep better he seems to be able to learn and progress more now

it did just really happen over night though i think he spent along time absorbing it all and then when he was confident enough let it all out

and now he doesn't stop lol i have to remind myself we were longing for this day

its all the repetitiveness i struggle with but at same time its great

how is your ds anyway? and you? x

sc13 · 29/04/2009 14:55

We're good, BBgirl, thanks. The day after the dx is the first day in a long time I've gone into work and actually thought about work IYSWIM. I like your parenting style, so I find your posts very useful . About repetitiveness, if you do find a way of making them stop counting the page numbers when we look at a book with lots of nice pictures (sigh), do give us a shout

bubblagirl · 29/04/2009 15:19

no im afraid that will never stop lol we have to count everything i make him toast and cut it into triangles bboy"how many triangles" 1234

he counts everything lol

im glad you find my posts helpful its been a long hard learning curve for me and if i can help somebody else then thats great

Well done bubblaboy.
Bubblagirl, that's huge so don't downplay it. DD is five at the end of May and still hasn't reached the "why" stage.
Actually, now I've got NT DS, I'm beginning to see all the stages she's missed out on .
However, am very proud of her today because she RODE HER BICYCLE...pedalling forwards, for about five minutes.
Admittedly, she can't steer, and doesn't look where she's going, but actually pedalling in the right direction is a huge improvement
