Well as you all know the last weeks/months have been really hellish for us. Now while I am not saying the dark ages are totally over, we have had one major step in the right direction and seeing as how you all listen to me moan a lot I thought I shall share the good as well.

On some of your advice, DH and I invested bought in a weighted blanket without having ever seen one in the flesh after that horrific night of 6 hour long meltdown through the middle of the night. It was £100 from here - we got DS the trucks & trains pattern with royal blue fleece lining.

They took a long time to deliver and I suspect but am not sure might have forgot out order, because we sent an email chasing the delivery and the very next day they sent an email profusely apologising but saying they were making it that day and shipping it first thing the next morning (next day delivery which is what you pay for)

(By the way not having a moan about them, I am just telling you the full story!)

So it arrived and DS was excited about looking at it but not touching it. It slept on the floor next to his bed each night. Then gradually it moved to the foot of his bed. Then yesterday, on a whim, I just picked it up, and confidently lay it on top of him as if it were the most natural thing in the world. He sort of gasped, and then smiled, and said "I love my special blanket!" (that is its name) And kept talking about how great it was -

RESULT - He went from waking every hour then up for good anywhere from 2-6 am to sleeping straight through from 8-6 except waking up at 12 for a drink!!!! NOT BAD!!! The only thing at all that changed was this blanket. Everything else is the same. It was amazing. I just had to tell you as its the first whole nights sleep in as long as I can remember!

I know its early days, LOL well, today is just Day 2 but I had to say - BUY ONE!! They rock!

cherrymonster ... i think the blanket should work for you ds! my dd4 has suspected autism, development delays, but is also a bit hyperactive- she sleeps better and calms out of her meltdowns within minutes with her blanket...we too are awaiting dx!

Thank you Quinny for posting and I am glad the lovely maker of this blanket is aware of this thread and of how grateful we are for it. I would be happy to write a recommendation for her website as well. Please tell her thank you and I sincerely hope my good experience with her lovingly made product encourages more parents to try them.

It has been a godsend. As I said DS is not interested in new things, he doesnt like touching them. So it took a couple of weeks to get him used to the blanket being around. But now he loves it and this will be night 5 of him sleeping under it and so far all nights he has slept through waking no earlier than 6.

He sleeps in long leg/long sleeved pjs and a lightweight knitted blanket under the weighted blanket. That has been his blanket since he was a baby and can not be changed. He does get hot in his sleep but not too hot at all. Anyway I would have him sleep in nothing but a nappy and cut out pjs before I would cut out the blanket.

cherrymonster, I dont know but I would think it is certainly worth a try! What I have noticed with DS is that he gets into a much deeper sleep with it. Before he was waking every hour - now not at all! So it might be enough to pull your DS through to a more sane hour!

I am really interested in this thread and am toying with the idea of getting 1. Dd id 9 but more like an 11 yr old height wise so what size would I need? Do you think it would help dd in the day time to chill out. She just can't seem to do that at all anymore, always on the go!
