I remember that as one of the phrases my grandma used to use. Seems very appropriate for a week where I've had to rush back and forth to hospital for dh who's had a brain bleed and is undergoing all sorts of tests. As people might remember, I'm ASD and so's he, and of course hospitals are a sensory nightmare for both of us anyway. So much for routine, my needs, his needs or anything else. Just sort of surviving at the moment. It made me wonder how much training any hospital has in caring for those with an ASD. They've been good, but it's like trying to recover in the midst of a warzone of noise, smells, people doing unexpected and fairly unexplained tests etc. We had to be really firm with the consultant and say "no, he can't handle that", at one stage which was respected.

I'm so tired....

Hope the other MNers here don't mind me saying that but I'm sure we all appreciate you here and we'd like to support you just as much.

Sure DH will be fine - he's got you to look out for him. X

amber, that's fab news. So pleased for you all, wishing your DH a very speedy recovery.

amber32002 · 21/02/2009 14:51

Thank you again, everyone.
He's home, and apart from being very tired, he's in really good spirits. The consultant cannot believe he's recovered this well, and neither can I. It'll take weeks for his concentration to be back to the same level, and he can only do a tiny bit of walking etc before needing a snooze, but he's up and about and it's like a miracle. It IS a
miracle!

Now to stop a determined man with an ASD from returning too fast to his routines and work. Hmm. May need more than a cunning plan for this...

BriocheDoree · 21/02/2009 20:47

Amber, very happy for you and Mr Amber. Hope that the recovery continues and that you can all get some well-earned rest / "sensory deloading" at home

amber32002 · 22/02/2009 07:18

It's so lovely to be away from the hospital with all those bells and beepers and smells and echoey corridors and flashing lights on everything. What a relief...

Amber

That is brilliant news about hubby and glad that he is recovering so well. If hubby is anything like my wee fella with an ASD - then it's full on from morning till he literally drops in the evening!! - so I agree it might take more than a cunning plan!!

I'm sure it's lovely just to be at home with the peace and quiet.

Enjoy the sunday papers, if you get a chance to read them!
